We were searching for a small intimate inn that offered all of the bells and whistles. It is how we prefer to travel and we search out the best we can find, but finding a property of this calibre is not easy! Elegant, luxurious, gracious, any superlative you could think of. The management was as professional and as accommodating as we have found! They filled every request promptly. We requested the New York Times be delivered to our suite along with breakfast, we had it. Room service? Was hot, delicious and as timely as we could hope for. The knowledgeable staff helped arrange for outstanding meals for us; one night at the Mirror Lake Inn, the next at Richard's at the Interlaken. We spent many hours relaxing in the common rooms in front of crackling fires and watched a couple films borrowed from their extensive video and DVD collection. For romance and relaxation, this place is in our Top 5 All-time favorites. We're planning a return this summer.

My wife and I recently flew into New York to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I found this inn through a bed and breakfast website. After reading some of the reviews on trip advisor, I decided to book two nights at the Saranac Club and Inn. Upon our arrival, we were greated by a lovely woman who offered us a glass of wine and a tour of the inn. I wished I could remember her name, but the info and time she gave us was way out of the norm. I would recommend listening to her suggestions to save yourself some time if you aren't familiar with the area. Quite a charming and informative meeting. She recommended the Interlaken and the View for dinner, and we tried both of them. The View was very good, but crowded. The Interlaken served what I think was possibly one of the finest meals that I have had in a long time. The attention to detail by the staff at the Saranac inn was really something. My favorite was the stand outside your room on which was placed cookies, coffee, and an assortment of teas every night at 9. At 7:30am, fresh coffee was waiting for us when we awoke...wonderful!! Breakfast was delicious, but again, what really makes this place work is the staff. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting the owners, but if their attentivness was anything near what the two lovely young ladies displayed, I wish them success in their business for a very long time. I'd like to close with a few thoughts about negative reviews. I have a tendency to read the worst reviews first, and if there are alot of them, that would indicate a problem. However, giving unfair and unjustified reviews to people who try their best to make you comfortable is not right. Stop and smell the roses.

not to mention delectible and devine! The first thing you need to do when you pull through the gates, is check your attitude and leave it in the parking lot. Walk in with no expectations and you will find the staff bends over backwards to satisfy your every whim. It is an old building that has been thoroughly renovated and beautifully appointed. The guest rooms are on the second floor (no elevator) so be healthy. Between the beautiful seating areas and polished service, it was an effort to get our fannies out of the inn...why fight the touristy crowds shopping in Lake Placid when the fire is so inviting?

The highlight for us was the private excursion the Concierge arranged for us on the lake. Amazing gourmet lunch, fully stocked bar, incredible scenery (from the heart of the village it is deceiving that the lakes go on and on and on into deep and untouched wilderness. Believe me, the views are stunning, better than nearby Vermont, which I had thought was impossible to top. We plan to return this Christmas but can't imagine it being any finer than it was this Autumn.

As another reviewer suggested, don't pass up the Afternoon Tea. The inn was named the Best Bakery of the Adirondacks and now I know why.

On 03/30/08 I paid the Saranac Club and Inn, $862.47 a deposit for my honeymoon. On 12/04/08 I received an email that they had to cancel my reservation due to illness. I understand illness does happen to people and i hope the owner is well. But as of 02/11/09 I have not received any money from the business. I have made several attempts to make contact with the owner of the business with negative results. I understand times are tough, but a simple phone call or an email from Tim MCLELLAND saying that "times are tough" I would completely understand. I guess i am just too trust worthy.

Our $250 dollar a night room looked like a 100 dollar a night room at best. Dark, depressing, dirty toilet, hot, no closet, no dresser. Not to mention the room was advertised as two rooms. It clearly was one small room. Having $80 dollars worth of free amenities does not make up for it. We were also greeted by construction noises which we were not informed about prior to booking. The front yard and a gazebo were both under construction. After seeing the room we decided to make other plans. We wanted to stay somewhere nicer on our honeymoon. My wife called the manager the next day about some compensation. She was called a "liar" and "rude" by the so called operations manageer. They did rent out the room to someone else for half of our booked stay. We were glad be refunded half the money. They have a very nice web site.

In response to the reviewer's comments we can only say that we are meticulous in our room preparation, as previous reviewers can attest, and that if the guests had any complaints about the suite we would have done our utmost to accomodate them. In addition, while room size is subjective, the suite in question is over 450sq. ft., consisting of separate bedroom and jacuzzi rooms, separated by a three-sided fireplace. Finally, the inn had embarked on a project to beautify the aesthetics of the inn's secluded, wooded parking area (located separate and apart from the inn itself), and the work was completed by the time of the guests' arrival.

The drive up to Saranac, NY is beautiful, and it gets more and more spectacular with every mile! Our group booked the enitre Saranac Club and Inn and so I was able to see every room. One out does the other! Each room has it's own style and flavor, but the underlining theme to each of them is luxury. Every detail is top-notch. And the people are so nice and respectful. Along with the beautiful rooms and the sun proches and decks, there are several outdoor areas to choose to relax in. During the day we took a great hike (there are many to choose from) and then that afternoon the owners of the Saranac Club and Inn took us on a gorgeous boat ride on one of the many lakes. That night we had a nightcap on their new pavillion, where we sat in peace and quiet and viewed the beautifully lit grounds and gardens. This is the place to stay in Saranac!

My husband and stayed in "The Suite" at the Saranac Club and Inn in February, 2005 and it was simply perfect. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable, romantic, & classy accomodation. Our trip started off perfectly. After we arrived at the Inn (very late), the inn-keepers were awaiting our arrival with wine and snacks in hand (which we needed very badly). The inn-keepers were extremely polite, accomodating, friendly, and helpful. They recommended restaurants, activities, and always had warm tea and cookies for us. Every night after we'd come in from dinner & out of the cold winter air, the fireplace was lit in our room and our champagne was awaiting us. Very nice touch, truly romantic. The 3rd night we were there, we came in from dinner, our fireplace was glowing, our champagne chilling and my fiancee got down on one knee and proposed to me in front of our fireplace. It was the perfect setting for a perfect engagement and the perfect start to our new life together!

Our room was beautifully decorated with simple elegance and classy touches. It was very spacious, warm, and cozy. Our bed & linens were so soft & comfortable we never wanted to get up in the morning.

The hot, home-made breakfasts were delicious and the entire Inn was decorated beautifully. The Inn is extremely classy yet cozy.

I am extremely picky when it comes to inns, most are stuffy & poorly decorated, but I highly recommend the Saranac Club and Inn-we couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation and we can't wait to go back!

I saw in the Buffalo paper that this B&B was ranked the number one B&B in New York State. Well I've been here and I can confirm it is a well deserved ranking. A beautiful interior, yes. Very nice grounds, yes. But the reason this property is number one in my book is the service. The is nothing snooty about this B&B. They don't take themselves too seriously, but they seem to take guest satisfaction very seriously. Simply everything we wanted was provided. Happily, quickly, willingly. When I read the travel magazines, it isn't that often that one of the hotels I've chosen makes the cut. Well I'm glad we found this gem! I guarantee we'll be back. Congratulations all!

We wanted to take a long weekend out of the city but weren't sure of a destination. Renting a car and all the hassles of driving didn't appeal to us, so we considered where could we go on a train. We narrowed it down to two lines served by Amtrak. One was the Montrealer which goes through the Adirondack Mountains. The other was the Ethan Allen which rides through the valleys of Vermont.

Once we get to our destination, then what? We checked around and found by and large, only the franchised corporate hotels offered shuttles. With one exception! A small country hotel deep in the Adirondacks provided the transportation. The Saranac Club and Inn has a "Ride the Rails" package. Come up on the Amtrak and their shuttle picked us up, brought us to the hotel, where we found the pampering, attention and romantic getaway we sought.

Getting around proved to be fairly easy. There were more rooms occupied with "Ride the Rails" guests than there were those with cars. They have a reservation/sign up list, so if you know you need to get somewhere at a certain time sign up, so you're sure the shuttle is available for you. On Saturday night, we partied in Lake Placid with no worries of having to drive.

We woke up on Sunday, to the most welcome Bloody Mary's and a delicious breakfast. We read the New York Times in front of a roaring fire with fresh, steaming hot coffee and slowly came to life.

Two things worth noting about the Ride the Rails program: The Saranac Inn offers 15% off all room rates (I think, at least ours...). With all of the freebies they have, it would have been more expensive to stay home and go out in Manhattan! The other comment is about the train itself. It sure beats driving. We had lunch, read the Post and Daily News, took a nap, read a little, then we had some cocktails and watched a movie. We dozed off again and awoke minutes before pulling into Penn Station. If you value your time and desire efficiency (NOT stuck behind the wheel for 6 hours!!!) the train is the way to go.

Amtrak. The Montrealer. And the Saranac Club and Inn. The perfect remedy to city stress. We can't wait to do it again!

This was only the second time we stayed at a small inn. After our first experience, we were reluctant to risk ruining another all-too-precious vacation by staying at an unknown.

But the Saranac Club and Inn more than restored our faith in the quality one can expect by staying at a small, independently operated inn/B&B. It was professionally managed first of all. The horrors of the other small property; we were made to feel as if we were a burden whenever we asked for something! But not here. Just the opposite and we can't say enough good things. Spotlessly clean! Immaculate! Great bedding and linen. The amenities were better than any large hotel we have stayed in, except for a few of the grand palaces in Western Europe. And as I said about the service, they couldn't do enough for us. Polite, prompt and best of all, not plastic.

Really, I don't know if any other reviewers can give feedback, but this place has not only restored our faith in small independent inns, but has raised the bar to being among the best. I wish there was a way for any other properties of this calibre to stand out among a very blase' field. Maybe a special classification or distinction would show they are of the same calibre as the Saranac Club and Inn.

If you have the chance to visit Lake Placid, you would be glad to at least take a tour of the place.
