Detailed Reviews
First off this hotel is not Grand Union, but it is now under new ownership.
It's now called Saratoga Springs Spa of South Broadway.
As we booked this hotel through a travel website we were booked a 4 bedroom. Suite.
It was booked for two nights on labor day weekend.
Prior to our arrival the day before we Called to ensure our reservation was in place.
Luckily we did as the hotel had us booked for a 3 bed suite.
They made the so called adjustments and confirmed our reservation.
As we arrived that morning to the hotel the manager Cody, said that we could not check in to at least 4pm.
As we had reservations at the racetrack for lunch we went from the hotel to the track.
After spending the day at the track we arrived back to the hotel to check in.
The front desk staff consisted of a security guard who took my name and credit card for incidentals.
The keys were handed to me and we went to the room only to find other guests on our room.
We went back to the office, and informed the desk staff of our dilemma.
He was perplexed to say the least and said the hotel was booked solid.
Obviously as we already paid for our room this was not an option as it was late and we needed our room.
Again he said he is just a security guard and was doing his best.
We asked for the manager, who he went in the back room to call.
He said the manager Cody would be here shortly.
When Cody arrived, he checked the reservation and apologized as the people that were checked into our room had cancelled earlier and he had several conversations with them regarding a no refund policy.
This was also overheard by us as well by the group ocupuying our room as we went to the lobby together to straighten out our problem.
Cody apologixed for our inconvenience and spoke with the group informing them that they needed to vacate.
3 hours later we were still in the lobby with no room.
Finally the group agreed to vacate the room and Cody said we will not need to pay for our night due to our inconvenience, he also said he would speak to the owner to see what else could be done as our night was ruined.
He assured us that we will be taking care of, and that the owner would contact as well
We were told by Cody thay the person that checked this group in was in the wrong and had no buisness granting them this room,as the reservation book had our name listed.
Once the group left Cody and the security guard assured us that the room would be stripped of all linens and entirely cleaned.
We waited another hour for the room to be cleaned.
We spent the night in the room and checked in again with Cody in the morning he said that the credit for our night would be resolved on Monday.
On Monday when we went to check out at 9:30 am the office was closed, and a sign on the door said to lock your keys on the room upon leaving. We called and left message and was called back from book keeper. We asked him how our refund will be given and he stated we are not refunding you anything as we did nothing wrong. He said Expedia overbooked and we need to deal with them.
This is absolutely unbelievable and the hotel admitted it was their error go giving our room to someone that had cancelled. The hotel forgot to take them out of system so gave our room number 21 to them. I even checked their old fashioned book where they placed names in the rooms and our name was there. It is one thing to have this happen but to be treated today by this so called bookkeeper who said we are not doing anything for you! We asked to speak with owner who we were told we can not speak to him as he is in Italy.
To say I am totally disappointed and frustrated with this hotels management would be a understatement.
I travel extensively for both buisness and pleasure, and have never dealt with such incompetence.
I can only advise other guests to refrain from staying at this hotel by all means possible.

Upon arrival New Years Eve room was okay, heck for $100 it would have been fine. Next morning my husband got out of shower and asked where his glasses were as something was in shower, he said "I think its a tampon", we both went in and sure enough it was so discusting, he rewashed his feet in sink, I had to remove it and scrub shower with my body wash as I needed to shower. Seen cleaning lady outside told her, she said tell manager get some compensation, he was so nasty, he said "I will charge you more". I am sending a letter to the Department of Health as obviously they do not clean the showers, they would have seen it.

This was probably the worst place we have ever stayed. When we arrived well after 1pm we were told our room was occupied and that we would need to wait for another to be cleaned. Even though she was cleaning the room I was already disgusted with the appearance of the room. The room was completely filthy as was both bathrooms. The one bathroom had ants and the carpet was so dirty I wore shoes the entire time. Only one air conditioner worked and the tv did not work at all, the sheets did not even fit the bed we chose to sleep on. My husband asked if someone could contact him to discuss theses issues and has also left three messages and has not received a call back. I cannot believe that an establishment is run in the is manner..............$270.00 a night!!!

My wife traveled to Saratoga Springs to help her 93 yr old father for a week. We booked this hotel for her. it's filthy. they didn't clean the room. When she asked them, they said she should've told them to. She arrived back at night, and the place was completely dark. no lights on at all. Sketchy. She finally found a family friend to stay with and left. When she asked for a partial refund, they laughed at her. Very rude. Stay away!

I booked a room here last Sunday through a reliable & famous travel site that charges you before they reveal the name of the property you've reserved. After buying the room I went straight to Tripadvisor to find out more about The South Broadway Inn and Spa - the name of the property (rated 3 star by the famous travel site) I'd just paid for. I was very surprised that Tripadvisor showed no reviews of this property. I was more surprised on Sunday when I arrived in Saratoga Springs to find the South Broadway Inn and Spa had no record of my reservation. "This happens all the time" said the lovely manager Victoria "ever since this place changed it's name & management, that travel site has no communication with us". Victoria kindly provided me a room charging me the same very low rate as the travel site had. This is a 60's era motel with a nice looking pool in the courtyard. Otherwise it is very dated and understaffed. The tv was new and the bed was clean and comfortable, the ac worked. There is no in-room coffee, no clock radio/phone, the bathroom door wouldn't close properly, the soda machine was out of order as was the "Rosemary Spring" located prominently in a pretty gazebo. There was a housekeeper in the office when I arrived but no room clerk. Manager Victoria was out in the adjoining Spa building. Next day when I checked out, the office was still locked at 8am Monday morning, There was no mail-slot or return for my old-school room key so I just left it locked inside the room. Returning home I called the famous travel site with my with Hotel confirmation and Itinerary numbers but they could find no record of my reservation either. Weird. They reversed the charges to my credit card promptly.

+1
The old Grand Union Motel is now: The Spa at 120 Broadway. (The main road to the village area.) The property like most buildings in Saratoga is from a bygone era. This one from the 1970's. Comforts are minimal here but the two rooms I was placed in were immaculately CLEAN. Which hopefully shows in the photos. Photos aren't uploading correctly for some reason. Sorry.
Guest services were friendly & accomodating. One manager: Cody, was on duty at noon in the Spa, (also immaculate) and still there at 11pm. Perhaps a sign of a family run business. Went out of his way, uber politely to be accomodating.
If you are on a budget and simply wish to shower & rest, this motel will save you $200-300 a night vs most 4 or 5 star hotels in the area. Especially if you call direct vs an online booking agency.
Spa services available at additional charge.
Free pool & parking.
Lounge chairs line each room outdoors.
Ice machine.
Cable flat screen TV
Wi-Fi
Walking distance under a mile to many businesses, restaurants and community residential areas if you enjoy exercise or beautiful parks & architecture.

There is no breakfast!
No coffee, no tissues, no front desk staff, no coffee maker, no anything!
Stay away from this motel, it's as close to staying in the Bates motel with the exception that not even the criminals would visit this rat hole!
