Had a wonderful weekend enjoying fall's last colors on Shelter Island last weekend. Kudos to the staff at The Chequit for their outstanding attention to detail, from having flowers delivered with note from a local florist to resolving a small glitch their attentiveness is above board. I would certainly recommend looking into to this place as a base for a...

It looks a bit tired and in need of a paint job upon first glance. But don't let that turn you off. The Chequit is absolutely delightful. First and foremost, the staff are wonderfully friendly and they go out of their way to make you comfortable. We stayed in "the loft" and loved it. Huge room with an old fashioned...

I visited Shelter Island for a few days as part of my Eastern LI trip and had a wonderful stay at the Chequit. First of all, it was right after labor day and very quiet. Secondly, it was raining both days that I was there. So it could have turned into a bad trip, but the staff were beyond friendly...

My now wife-to-be and I came to stay in the Chequit over Labor Day weekend with another couple. Prior to our trip I was speaking with their Director of Operations, Julie, who helped me with planning a proposal. She was amazingly helpful and provided lots of great ideas of things to do around the island and helped do up our...

Having never been to Shelter Island, I found the Chequit through Goop.com, which I always trust for good recommendations. Although it has a very charming website and has been reviewed in well-respected travel websites, The Chequit was a massive disappointment: summer camp shabby chic, but with rude staff, filthy sheets and towels, and a lingering smell of cheap disinfectant everywhere...

Had to stop here and this place was the only place available. Quaint little place on the island with a friendly staff; clean, comfortable room with great charm and history.
