I wanted to like Sunset Beach, but their propensity for astronomical charges with average delivery wore thin. The staff are mainly kids on a summer vacation. So, they're hung over while serving over-priced breakfast. The reception invite you to go to the bar yourself when you ask for ice. They, comically, close reception at 10pm. The bar / restaurant booms...

Sunset Beach is located on a beautiful spot on the Long Island Sound. While all of the rooms overlook the parking lot (which is a pebble lot with pretty bushes & flowers) there is a view of the water. The balconies are not entirely private, but comfortable. We liked our visit here enough....pluses: right on the beach with chairs, umbrellas...

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and had an awful time. TripAdvisor actually rejected my first review, so I'll try to provide more "detailed first-hand experience" - It is not an exaggeration to say this hotel/restaurant had the worst customer service I've ever encountered. No "hello", no "how are you", no smiles. I called ahead to ask about...

We stayed 2 nights at Sunset Beach to celebrate our anniversary. We emailed ahead to make sure we got a room farthest from the restaurant which I was happy with and we thought we had better views. I thought everything was absolutely charming in a chic laid back European coastal way. We noticed some reviews mentioned there were no water...

Too cool for school. That's what the staff are like at this trendy beach front place. Great bar. Good food. Shabby decor. Dead insects in the drinks. Very buzzy. Tables too crammed in for me. Constantly being knocked by waiting staff and other customers. It's a pretty cool place but don't put money on any of the staff cracking a...

I like going early to avoid the crowds - breakfast is very limited - a few choices of crepes, quiche, pasteries, smoked salmon & bagel and great coffee - all excellent - friendly staff ...you order at the counter and take food to your table - informal style with some great music and a view across the street of beach &...

We spent 4 nights at the Sunset Beach. The spot is really nice and the sunset amazing but unfortunately the place is very overpriced considering the lack of service: hard to find someone to help you with the luggage which were heavy considering we are traveling from Europe, no service at night in the room, self service for breakfast at...

My sister and I stopped at Sunset Beach last summer (August of 2015) for a very late lunch (or very early dinner). We also wanted to see how the hotel has changed since we vacationed on Shelter Island when we were kids. Our grandfather owned a home on the island from 1930 until 1985 so my mother and her siblings...

Nice hotel, nice restaurant. The rooms are a tiny bit dated compared to the "trendiness" of the place but the location and the vibe is still great. It's a bit of a scene, no random dressers there. Very French, every time we go there for lunch or dinner, the waiters and at least half of the customers speak French. The...

Yes, there are a lot of negative reviews about price and service, but my boyfriend and I went anyway and we are glad we did. You can't beat the sunset and the service and the food was great in our experience. It is pricey, even for NYC standards, but not so outrageous given what you pay in the City. It's...
