Stayed here for 3 nights with a sports team. This particular HI Express is an old property and it needs to be updated. The room has very old dark furniture. As expected with most IHG properties, the water pressure in the shower was bare minimum and the lighting in the bath sink area was horrible for applying makeup. The mattresses were lumpy and hard and desperately need to be replaced. The TV is a cheap Phillips with no channel guide and on a mount that does not swivel. The positive is it’s location near local restaurants and plenty of parking. There are a couple much better nearby options for staying in Utica.

Spent one night here, takes a while to reach the hotel from the highway, they had decent amount of parking but not that much. Issue is they have a lot of guests who stay at the hotel to work in the area. So they place them on the 3rd and 2nd floor. I guess placing guests who wake up at 5 am on the top floors is a good idea. They walk around upstairs and slam doors on their way out. I am not sure why these guys get the top floors and not give these floors to guests who do not plan on getting up at 5 am. Appreciated the self serve breakfast they had out although I did not have any. They did have tea in the lobby and I did have some of that. I amnot sure I would stay here again only because I do not want to be woken up at 5:08 AM during my stay. Dumb idea to place these guys on the top floor.

Hello ldepmom, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback about your stay at our hotel. We’re the first choice of travelers who need a simple, engaging place to rest, and what transpired during your stay isn't what we promised. I'm sorry to hear your discomfort due to loud noise coming from the 2nd and 3rd floor. This isn't the experience we want you to have or to any guests. I shared this with our hotel management. I'm certain that the necessary measures will be taken to ensure guest comfort at all times. We appreciate you choosing us for your accommodation needs. I hope you'll come to visit us again and show that the unsatisfactory part of your stay was an exception! Safe travels, Jomar M. Case Manager IHGService

We arrived and went in to inquire about room availability. The Front Desk attendant had a mask half-way on....it was not covering her nose. I asked if they had discounts for AAA or AARP...she said no. I also asked about cleaning regimen for COVID 19. She said...well, the rooms are cleaned if that's what you mean. I also asked what the time between turnover and cleaning was...she said she didn't know what I was talking about.....and then she added probably 2 hours . Needless to say, I walked out. Unfortunate, as we are members and prefer to stay at the Holiday Inn Expresses.

Hello jackmullens, Your safety is our utmost concern, especially during these times. IHG takes the mitigation and prevention of COVID-19 seriously. We have just started a standardized cleaning system, the IHG Way of Clean, and our hotels are required to adhere to comprehensive health and safety procedures. IHG has also launched a guideline where all will be required to wear masks when we are in public places in the hotel or when social distancing can not be practiced. I am sharing your comments with the Hotel Management, and I am confident that the necessary steps will be made, to make improvements. We hope you will join us again in the future and impart a better stay. Safe travels, Deborah R. Case Manager IHGService

I was visiting the Utica area for a couple of days in July 2020 and had the opportunity to spend a Friday night and a Saturday night at this Holiday Inn Express. I had booked a room here because the rate seemed somewhat reasonable for having the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. I arrived at around 1:30 on a Friday afternoon to check in. My check-in process went smoothly. My room (#230) was clean and comfortable... no problems there. This property, like many other hotels, has made adjustments to normal operations due to the COVID pandemic. For instance, the pool was not open and neither was the breakfast area for its normal buffet. (While I was disappointed, I couldn't complain because I appreciated that this property is taking this pandemic seriously.) I did, however, have a few concerns. First, I understand that for guests who are staying for more than one night, housekeeping service is not automatically provided... and that guests must specifically request housekeeping service. I was disappointed because, even though I asked for housekeeping service, it was not provided. Granted, I didn't make my request at the time of check-in. I might have requested it an hour or two later and spoke with a different staff member than the one who checked me in, but the message was not delivered to whomever needed to know that I had requested housekeeping service. Second, in lieu of the standard buffet breakfast, this hotel offered to-go breakfast bags for guests which I took advantage of on the second morning of my stay. One of the items I requested for my bag was a cup of yogurt. When I first received the bag, it did not contain a spoon and I was told, "You have to ask for a spoon." Seriously? Ask for a spoon to go with the yogurt? That was a little odd. Did the hotel staff assume that guests automatically had their own spoons or would eat the yogurt with their fingers? Third, the Internet wasn't working properly in the business center where I used to the computer. Some websites worked while others did not. I was told that there was a known issue with the Internet service. Not the hotel's fault, but still... it was an inconvenience. In the grand scheme of things, these concerns I had were minor and I enjoyed my stay for the most part. On the Monday after my stay, I called the hotel and spoke with the manager, Brandee, about my concerns and asked if there was any way I could get a discount on my room because of these inconveniences. Brandee was very nice and took care of me by giving me a discount after the fact which I very much appreciated. I think she was grateful that I had informed her of these issues... at least that was the impression she gave me. I'm not sure if I'll have any other opportunities to visit Utica again, but if I do, I may consider staying at this property again. My stay was pleasant for the most part.

When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly attendant who was wearing a mask. Unfortunately, mask wearing was not enforced or followed in public spaces, other than by the employees. Understandably, the pool and fitness room were closed, but we were able to order a bagged take-out breakfast for the morning, which I appreciated. Disappointingly, our room did not have hand sanitizer or even hand soap available. We needed to use shampoo to wash our hands in our own bathroom. I brought this to the attention of the overworked person at the front desk, but we did not receive any for our room during our stay. The beds were comfortable and it was clean, but I would have appreciated enforcement of all guests wearing masks in small, public spaces and soap in our room to wash our hands.

Hi R6990PAelizabethd, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for posting a candid review. I was very concerned to read your comments about guests not wearing masks during your stay as well as the unavailability of hand sanitizers or hand soap in your room. I understand your dismay, and I am sorry. This is not the frictionless experience that we wanted for all our guests. I will make sure to share your comments with our team for the necessary improvements needed on our end. I would also like to follow up with on your concerns that is why I sent you a private message. I hope you get the time to read it and respond. Mike F. Case Manager IHGService
