I took my partner to Sturgeon River Ranch as a birthday surprise. We stayed in PA and drove up for an afternoon ride. We got a bit confused by the directions (when you get to Debden sign take the Park Valley Road to the right). This was disorienting and threw us off a bit so we were anxious about getting lost and stuck in the outback. But, in the end, it was worth the trip. Carly and the staff were all ready to meet us when we got there and they did a great job getting us set up with some basic instruction. Thanks to Dominique for leading the ride in a really safe way that was cognizant of our very basic skills and comfort level. The horses are beautiful as is the land. We took a basic 3 hour tour which was perfect for our needs and comfort level. Thanks again for a great birthday surprise. I'd come back in another season just to see how the landscape changes.

Had an absolutely amazing day with Carley and John! I rented a car to explore Saskatchewan for the day and I saw lots of amazing reviews for the Sturgeon River Ranch. I am so happy to add to those excellent reviews and I strongly encourage everyone to make it a must see in their visit to the province! I had booked the one hour horseback riding at their other location but got directions mixed up and ended up at their location (Carley and Johnny do the half and full day tours). Carley was so kind and immediately offered to take me out anyway! We ended up having the most adventurous and wild day and I even got to help herd the unsaddled horses from the field back to the ranch! This was the absolute coolest thing ever and it would not have happened if not for the professionalism, creativity, hospitality, and passion for horses (and lost city girls!) of this amazing team. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to you both for creating such a beautiful, Canadian, and wild west memory for me. It turns out that getting lost was the best thing that ever happened to me :)

This was our second year doing a one hour horse ride at Elk Ridge Resort. The guides we had in both instances (Carly & Noemi) were very knowledgeable and ensured my daughter (age 4) and I had a great experience. I feel they went above and beyond, this year our daughter who is not quite ready to ride solo was still able to have an amazing adventure as Noemi lead her horse (through a trail that was often narrow, muddy and steep) on foot!! The horses are treated very well and you can tell the Guides care about them very much.

The team at Sturgeon River Ranch are wonderful and the trail riding opportunities here are truly incredible. Riding in the national park with bison and deer is a once in a lifetime experience and the team (+ the horses) here took great care of me. There are infinite trails to explore but having lunch in Long Meadow was one of my favourite places. John is full of great stories and bear anecdotes, make sure to see some of his videos! The ranch house is amazing with beautiful views of the sturgeon river- often you can spot various duck and shorebird species from the yard. Overall, a fantastic wilderness retreat and a truly unique experience in Saskatchewan.

I was in the area for work and needed a spot to stay for the night. Being sick of all the cheap hotels and cookie cutter experiences I looked up places to stay online. Johns sturgeon river ranch came up. I am happy to say that I came and experienced the place. Had morning coffee with the horse and geese and goslings right beside us on the river and I am currently watching two deer walk down the driveway. Exactly what I needed!

Need a unique experience? I recommend the Back Country Adventure. The ride to the camp was peaceful, and then we chilled at the camp after going out on the lake for a bit. An experience for all levels of riders. Really enjoyed it!

I booked a backcountry overnight trip with Sturgeon River this past Thanksgiving weekend. It was a great experience even though it was a little cold. They were very accommodating about me bringing my dog with me. We started with a 4-hour ride to the campsite. The horses are all wonderful and the country is gorgeous. We saw a moose on the ride in. The campsite was located on a beautiful lake. We were able to fish and catch our dinner. All of the food prepared was delicious and included in the backcountry adventure. We were able to view beautiful scenery and wildlife while on horseback. I would love to visit again

We are a family of four (with 2 preteen kids) who were searching for a Back Country lifetime experience. Our three nights at Sturgeon River Ranch certainly met our expectations and then some. John went out of his way to plan an amazing itinerary including overnighting by a secluded lake and arranging a private concert by Rugged Little Thing as well as a wagon ride. What my boys remember most are the horses with each of their special personality quirks and catching their own fish for dinner. (It was one of our son's first fish ever caught and it was 3 feet long, of course). Todd cooked us a really delicious campfire meal and taught us how to make Bush Pies. There were several moments I had remind myself to pause and soak in the moment: watching my family horseback by the Aspen wood, listening to local Blue grass in by a campfire and having my horse respond to me so well. Why not "Excellent" but "Very Good"? Perhaps we are too "city slick" and we are too used to very clear, defined expectations. Though we had a lot communication with John, there was a few ambiguity/ oversights along the way. If you are looking for an authentic back country, Canadian nature experience and you consider yourself more of a TRAVELLER than a TOURIST, I would recommend SRR. For me, it was an item on my bucket list. Check.

I booked a backcountry overnight trip with Sturgeon River Ranch and what an experience it was! I stayed one night at the rustic ranch house before we headed out the next morning into the west side of the Prince Albert National Park by horseback. The fall colours and scenery that time of year were incredible! I spent two nights in the park with my guide who was the owner/operator of the ranch and spent the days riding the trails through the park trying to catch a glimpse of Canada's only totally free ranging herd of Plains Bison. You have the chance to catch your supper for the evening as well! Great home cooked meals. Great scenery. Great experience. There's nothing like watching a blanket of stars appear over the top of a boreal forest. I hope to make it back to Sturgeon River Ranch someday soon and go on another great adventure with them!
