After a lovely sunset, overlooking the Drakensberg mountain range we had a delicious dinner accompanied by the owner of Three Tree Hills, Simon. Simons has the answer to every single question and many more thrilling stories and experiences to tell. We can highly recommend the walking safaris with exciting views of rhinos, zebras.... Attention to detail, friendly and always smiling...

This is the headquarters for visiting the Boer War Sites. We had an expert guide in Ron who took a great interest in helping us with Liz's grandfather's part in the war. Three Trees is an excellent place to stay (even if you are not interested in the war). It is peaceful.....no radio or TV in the individual lodges, You...

We had a two night stay at Three Trees with the main intention of learning about the battle of Spion Kop - and we were not disappointed! Simon's narration was so lifelike we felt we were there and it was a wonderful morning. In the afternoon Cheryl took over and we had a game walk with her in the neighbouring...

If you are interested in the history of South Africa, and in particular the Boer War; if you like the idea of staying next to a nature reserve where rhinos, zebras and giraffe roam free, from the bottom of the hill down to the dam in the valley; if you are sensitive to the charm of 1900-colonial style wood and...

This was our first stop on our first holiday in South Africa, so we really didn't know what to expect, but it was wonderful! As a family of 5, we stayed in the Churchill cottage - everything you could possibly need, so beautifully presented, and with a private pool and a full-length balcony. I couldn't believe my eyes when we...

We had a wonderful time. The accommodation was beautifully comfortable with spectacular views. The food was simple and delicious. The hospitality was outstanding. We enjoyed lovely hikes in the bushes. Very peaceful and quiet. We definitely recommend Three Tree Hill.

We have stayed in many different places both in South Africa and elsewhere. Of those there is a tiny handful where we have said to ourselves, not "we'd like to come back here sometime", but rather "we WILL come back again". It really is that special, and this is mainly due to the love and care that Simon and Cheryl...

A magical place, overlooking Spion Kop hill. Tastefully designed and decorated in a traditional style, Cheryl and Simon run a really excellent lodge with charming staff, excellent food and illuminating battlefield tours and game walks. There really is no substitute for seeing battlefield topography, especially for historical conflicts when the layout of the land had such a profound influence on...

This is a spot where history-brought-alive combines with attention to detail, with remote South Africa, with magnificent vistas and with a nurturing lodge. It's really lovely from beginning to end and you come away feeling that you have both absorbed a great deal and enjoyed a great escape. Excellent.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Our cottage was lovely and so much thought had been put into making our stay comfortable. The view from the bathroom was amazing! The Lodge has a wonderful library and Simon and Cheryl were excellent hosts and we were made to feel very welcome. Our meals were good and lunchtime salads particularly...
