I spent time in two rooms of this most exquisite hotel in Zanzibar and I truly experienced the wow effect! Zanzibar comes alive in this beautifully crafted and designed boutique hotel. The Pricess Seyyida and Livingstone rooms are simply stunning.simply so well considered that to film I only needed to add highlights to get the effect that one would have...

This is long overdue review. We have stayed in Swahili house back in February 2016, but only few days ago, when friend asked where to stay, we had to recommend Swahili house. Its well, hidden, tucked away from busy town centre. Just to get there late at night is adventure on it own, I highly recommend you practise during the...

I told the hotel in advance that I would be arriving at 2am in the morning, but arrived to find it locked up and no record of my reservation. I spent a full 90 minutes with the two security guards, showing them my reservation and my confirmation. Eventually I was let in, but because the security staff didn't have access...

My boyfriend and I rented the Sultan suite and it was wonderful. The room was stunning, and furniture was exquisite. The rooftop bar had a gorgeous view from the top, we took full advantage of the happy hour. Plus the food was great. We had a fantastic time wandering around the city, can't wait to come back and get lost...

Stayed at the Swahili House as part of an organized trip. Had a wonderful visit. This hotel is in the heart of Stonetown. Rooms very very clean and well kept. Restaurant food was very good, drinks were expertly conceived and crafted. Prices were very reasonable (by American standards). We enjoyed our stay, you will too!

I've stayed in a handful of different hotels around Stone Town, and heard great things of some of the Swahili House neighbors, but I truly LOVED Swahili House -- it is off a main road so there's not a lot of foot traffic around, and has an excellent panoramic view of Stone Town! The rooms were also classic with very...

We loved Swahili House. It was the perfect haven of tranquility in amongst the hubbub of Stone Town. We stayed here for a night on two separate occasions during our visit to Zanzibar and both times it was somewhere we looked forward to resting our heads. The whole building is beautifully restored and the staircase alone is something to be...

Just arrived to Zanzibar and checked in. This is my 3rd trip to this island and I'm already very impressed by what I got. I love big and bright rooms - the room is very big, clean and bright. I love big bathrooms - this bathroom is huge! I love windows in the bathroom - this one has three. There...

Rooms are good spacious and very clean. Beds have mosquito nets and the rooms are sprayed to avoid mosquitoes. There is no wifi (or TV, if you care...) in the rooms. There is wifi in the restaurant though; but it does not always work. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace and it's very good. Overall it was a good...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in the bustling heart of Stone Town the building was originally set up and used as an Indian Merchant House in the 19th century. In the 125 years that were to come the building was home to one of the many Sultan families and then became a hotel some years ago. After purchasing the hotel, renovations started in May 2008. Most of the hotel has been restored into its original state, but we have been making some changes as well. The result is The Swahili House - a sparkling hotel with traditional influences and modern day facilities in combination with authentic Swahili hospitality. ... more   less
