The set menu on the rooftop of the Emerson Spice came highly recommended from my coworkers. It did not disappoint. The service and food were excellent. The hotel is beautifully decorated. I felt like I was stepping back into the early 20th century and didn't want to leave.

To be in the middle of Stone Town, an ancient city, able to watch the modern day to day activities in the streets below while living in luxury was an amazing experience. Have never stayed in such an exotic room setting! We were in Belle and thoroughly enjoyed it. We wandered around Stone Town (which to us is a labyrinth)...

Such a pleasure to meet you both! It was a shame that you only stayed for one night. We always recommend that to really immerse oneself into the true unique culture that is Stonetown, as well as to enjoy both the Emerson Zanzibar's Tea House Restaurants, a two night stay is a must. Look out for our Special offers -...

It is decorated with the desire to respect the tradions of Zanzibar. This was achieved, but of course the moders gadgets are not part of the Zanzibar traditions. You are received at your arrival in the lobby as though you were the most important person in town. The service continues at the same level during your stay in the Hotel....

Emerson Spice, being an old Merchant's House in a Unesco Heritage Site, has been lovingly restored, but still offers the modern conveniences such as Air Conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout, as well as a complimentary Turn Down and Laundry Service. With only eleven individually designed guest rooms, our Zanzibari Team offer our guests their naturally traditional hospitality, where nothing is too...

We arrived at Emerson Spice in October for my birthday. We were received at the airport by perhaps not the cleanest car we've ever used. Regardless, we arrived at the edge of Stone Town under twenty minutes. Here, the driver told us to disembark and we got to the hotel by foot. After weaving our way through Stone Town, we...

When you enter Emerson Spice you walk into a world full of amazing impressions, surprises, traditional style and a world far from your previous experiences. I loved my room Kathe, all on the top of the building. With 2 balconies, one for the morning and one for the sunset. You`ll find 2 tubes, one outside on the balcony! The sight...

We enjoyed staying at the Emerson Spice, and we would definitely return; however I feel that it's slightly over priced. The hotel is located fairly centrally, and the first impressions are very good, as you receive a friendly welcome. We stayed in the Camille room, and paid for 4 nights; the room itself was very nice, as it's spacious, and...

Dear Richard, Thank you for a wonderful review. Camille is a beautiful room and I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and the Team looked after you so well. The Wi-fi provider is currently in discussion with us on how to improve connectivity in our Victorian building with is thick walls and double height ceilings. We do have back up...

We stayed for two nights at Emerson Spice. We stayed in Belle on the first floor which is a spectacular room with a long balcony overlooking the town. There is a double bed with a ceiling fan INSIDE the mosquito net - a great bonus! There is also aircon although the room is rather large for it. The bed is...

This hotel was a total treat for our honeymoon...sumptuous rooms (we stayed in "Lamour"), friendly and very professional staff, and an amazing rooftop restaurant perfect for sunsets over the ocean. Breakfast on the rooftop was delicious as well (we were offered room service on our private balcony, but the morning breeze and covered area up top was a delightful setting...

An amazing hotel, a journey in itself. The service was outstanding, and the building is magical. Breakfast on the rooftop was a great start to the day, sitting on top of Stone Town eating fresh fruit and enjoying the view. We even received a nice bottle of sparkling wine from the hotel manager as gift, after we got engaged on...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
An inspired and lovingly restored Merchant’s House, this multi-storied small Boutique hotel has an inner courtyard, eleven unique antiques-filled rooms, and two of Zanzibar’s best restaurants. All rooms are equipped with a small fridge, air conditioner, fan, and high ceiling mosquito net. The rooftop ‘Tea House’ hosts one of Stonetown’s most renowned restaurants offering a stylish ambiance amidst the sound of the calls to prayer from the town’s many mosques. The five course ‘Taste Safari’, prepared daily by our Zanzibari chefs, is seafood based and celebrates the freshest and best the market has to offer each morning. The sunset hour is an integral and pleasurable part of the experience so diners are encouraged to arrive at around 6pm to enjoy a ‘Sundowner’ before dinner. On the Ground floor The Secret Garden, set amidst lushly landscaped hidden ‘Ruins’, open to the skies, has a Zanzibari inspired A La Carte Menu. Look out for live music performed by The Dhow Countries Music Academy. Open for Lunch and Dinner. ... more   less
