This hotel is in a 16th century former baronial residence in a restored medieval fortified village. As such it provides a very special experience. When the sun starts to set and the visitors depart (not many in September) you can wander the streets alone and soak in an atmosphere steeped in history. Our room was comfortable, if small. Dinner is...

Spiral staircase up to the second floor bedroom in this medieval manorial residence which has been restored into an hotel (only open for six months of the year). Small bedroom, but woke up to the sight of the castle tower looking down on us. Vaulted dining room. All set in a wonderful tiny medieval hamlet, which is one of the...

What is amazing about this hotel is the beautifully restored medieval building. We were welcomed warmly when we arrived after hiking all day in the rain, and the hotelier kindly offered to dry our wet gear for us. We had reserved a superior room with half board, and were allocated a comfortable, good-sized room with a large en suite bathroom....

A magic, very special place to stay. Good room and barhroom. Surprisingly modern, in the almost archeological surroundings. Enjoy the absolute silence of the old medieval village at sunset. Feel yourself a part of the fleeting texture of time. Give your soul some space. The vicinity of a beautiful lake, though artificial, in a delightful natural backdrop is a plus....

I passed this way 20 years ago and remember a wonderful night, with first-rate food and an owner with unbounded enthusiasm for everything that he did. Imagine my delight, therefore, at finding that nothing had changed – including the owner. I would agree that this is not a place to visit in a wheelchair; apart from that, however … You...

We stayed here for five nights in june 2012 and had a wonderful time. The location is marvellous, La Garde Guérin is a small medieval village (some 20 to 30 houses, a small chapel and remains of an old fortress and defensive walls) perched on top of a cliff overlooking the magnificent Chassezac gorge and surrounding countryside. The hotel is...

The point of staying here is the amazing location. The hotel in set in a small restored medieval stone village perched high above the Chassezac Gorge. All around is empty and unspoilt and the views from the village square are staggering. We have stayed here twice and enjoyed each occasion. Yes, the bedrooms are small and the food a little...

A lovely hotel in a pretty village which really feels as if time has stood still. Hard to get a huge suitcase up the stairs to the room, but worth it when we got there! Had the fixed menu as we were staying as part of a package and this was a bit weird (pea and avocado puree with horse-raddish...

I stayed there 3 days this summer in the mediaeval village of La Garde Guerin and slept at La Regordane. The rooms are simple, clean, really comfortable and nice. You can get the view on the old tower and think of the walk you can take the day after in the Chassezac Gorges ! It is pretty amazing, and calm...

Set in a beautifully-restored 'bastide' (fortified village) amid the dramatic scenery of the Cévennes National Park, this small hotel has great charm. A restored 16th century mansion, it is open from Easter until the end of September. The bedrooms are comfortable, if rather sparsely furnished. The en-suite bathroom is small, clean and fully functional. In good weather, meals are offered...

“Try getting a room on the top floor overlooking the castle ruins, lookout tower and Chassezac gorges. Then get up at 7 AM and just stare out of your window for about an hour to see the sun colour the sky and countryside orange and hear the countless birds come to life.”
