Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for 3 nights in December 2011. We we the only ones staying for the first 2 nights, and had no problems with noise from the other guests or from the road at any time.
The rooms are decorated with great attention, they are very large with matching fabric linens, drapes and wall hangings, comfortable bed, couches and chaise, tv (with some English channels, subtitle options), and free wifi which is a great help. The bathroom is also large, with heated towel racks and plenty of supplied towels etc. cleaned well everyday, nicecand warm, with locally touches such a fresh flowers, kettle with tea/coffee sachets, water bottles and wine glasses with wine opener for when/if you just want a glass of wine in our room.
Breakfast was ok, each morning there was a homemade offering from Catharines kitchen whether it be cannelles, apple tart or a custardy/eggy fruit tart, plus cereal, yogurt and bread, but for those that prefer savory options there was not much choice. Coffee was average, but the hot chocolate was lovely and the breakfast room downstairs was lovely with the fire going especially when it was cold and rainy outside.
The location is outside of the town, you can either walk into town on main roads or through the vineyards (not so nice in winter when it rains!) unfortunately for us we didn't have a car for the whole time, arrived by train and couldn't get a taxi (nearest taxis are in the next bigger town, but mre readily available in warmer months) after some walking and waiting out the rain (no information regarding taxi/lack of taxis until we asked a local shopkeeper) we finally rang Catherine who came and fetched us, which was a lovely gesture. She was more than willing to drop us into town, even driving us to the train station on our last day as it was raining and she didnt want us walking 'too far' show us maps, make restaurant recommendations etc. Very helpful.
Because we visited outside the normal tourist season many shops and restaurants were shut, but that still didn't take away from the towns beauty or the interesting sites that were still open (I,e underground cellars, and basilica).
We also were lucky enough to visit a fantastic wine shop called Le grande cave, top end of town near the tourism office. The guys there were great, spending heaps of time with us tasting over 10 types of wine, organizing shipping back home and even arranging a private tour of a winery not open to the public, with original underground cellars.
I would recommend staying at Chateau franc pourret but it really is more beneficial if you have a car as it is a fair walk to the town if you don't (likely better in summer for walking than in winter).

My wife and I were biking from Bordeaux. Maggie LaCoste from "Experience France by Bike" had recommended lodging with Catherine at Chateau Franc-Pourret. We hit a home run in securing 3 nights at the Chateau. As the other reviews state, the breakfasts were wonderful and probably the best we experienced in our 18 day trip. None of our breakfasts were unpleasant but Catherine's were just a cut above all the rest. Each of our 3 mornings we were presented with fresh baked items, homemade jams and homemade yogurt all served in a homey elegance with an effort towards presentation detail. We started to have some feelings of "royalty".
Our room was spacious, exceptionally clean, elegantly decorated and had every amenity we could want. Catherine accommodated our needs above the expected. We arrived late on bikes and had purchased wine, bread and cheese in town. She set a special table for us that night so we would not have to eat in our room (that wouldn't be a bad thing). We were pampered. We simply enjoyed the quite and relaxed atmosphere of the home as well as the community.
Catherine made our stay a wonderful travel experience, a memory for life. We appreciate all of her efforts for us.

It would be difficult to say something about Chateau Franc-Pourret that hasn't already been said by hundreds of tripadvisor reviewers. Pretty much everything from the rooms to the estate to the wine to the oh so unbelievable breakfast treats has been reported over and over and over. As I pondered how to add some new perspective to staying at Chateau Franc-Pourret, I thought back to the first time I stayed here and the first time I met Catherine. That was over 10 years ago. Since then, I have stayed there twice. I would have stayed here at least twice more, but both rooms were already booked!
Over the 10 years I have known Catherine and have had the pleasure of staying at Franc-Pourret, the quality of service has continued to grow and the experience of staying here has become more unique. In a time when so many travelers are seeking the ultimate travel experience, Catherine delivers this experience day in, day out to every visitor that comes in the door.
There is nothing too difficult to ask of Catherine. If it is raining, she will delay her dinner so that she can give you a ride to yours. If you need to check out early to catch a train, she will get up early to make your breakfast.....and take you to the station. If you are looking for help designing the perfect wine tasting trip, she will help you. All of this, in addition to being a great Mother, Grandmother, gardener, an organic chef and baker and manager of Franc-Pourret.
When I first met Catherine, she could barely speak English, and I, not much French. Every visit her English improved, and my French became passable. But from my first visit, our conversations were always engaging. Always on the lookout for how she can improve things around Franc-Pourret (quite a difficult thing to do!), this fall Catherine took an intensive course in English, so that she would be better able to converse with her guests.
Catherine is one of the most endearing, amazing women I have met in my travels. She is proud of Franc-Pourret and this is apparent everywhere around the estate. If you are lucky enough to stay here, take a tour of the cellars and share a bottle of wine with Catherine. Ask her about the estate. Always listen to Catherine's dinner recommendations, they are never wrong! And if you are looking for an insider's recommendations on the best wines in the area, again, listen to Catherine.
A stay at Franc-Pourret is a true French experience, an opportunity to be much more than a tourist. You may enter the door of Franc-Pourret as a guest, but you will leave as a friend!

Lucky us! We got to spend two nights at this wonderful Château. Large comfortable room with a view of the vineyards surrounding the Château. A large modern bath and plenty of accoutrements to meet your every need.
The breakfast served was wonderful. We had a little apple tart, wonderful baguette and croissants, a homemade organic yogurt that was delicious, an assortment of jams, cereals. The best breakfast we've had on her three week trip so far.
A two minute drive will get you to the old village of Saint Emilion. The area is loaded with vineyards.

This B&B is in an excellent location for walks through the vineyards, easy walking and driving access to St. Emilion and easy driving distance to many other villages and small towns. Catherine is an excellent host. She is friendly and helpful. The B&B is clean and beautifully decorated. The breakfast has a home baked treat each morning which varied for the five nights that we stayed there. There are other breakfast staples well presented each morning beside the lit fireplace. If possible, also take advantage of one of the wine tours and tastings at the vineyard at this B&B. Catherine also gave us some excellent suggestions for places to eat. A highlight for us was the wine bar in the nearby village of Saint-Genes-de-Castillion called Le Comptoir de Genes. This B&B is a good value.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this very warm and welcoming B&B. Our first night we got lost and Catherine came out and met us after getting the wrong directions. She was so generous and offered us a nice glass of wine along with pate, cheese and bread since we were so late getting in nothing was open for dinner. Thanks Catherine. We also had incredible house mates which made our trip even more special. Catherine would sit and have a glass of wine and great conversation with us. All I can say is if you have a chance to visit Bordeaux, visit the vineyards and stay with the Ouzoulias' it's a trip you'll have very fond memories of. We sure do.

The small but perfectly formed medieval wine town of St. Emilion is a revelation for first-time visitors. It is compact, unsullied by modern developments or surrounding suburbs and immersed in a blanket of vines. A few kilometres from the renowned Pomerol vineyards of Petrus and Cheval Blanc on the Bordeaux Right Bank, St. Emilion hosts its own stars in properties such as Canon, Figeac and Angelus. Narrow, stonewalled laneways wind through the approaches to the town which glows golden in the soft light, its spires and towers stark against the deep blue sky.
Just down the road is Chateau Franc- Pourret, a recognized wine property operated by the Ouzoulias family for several generations. Matriarch Catherine rents two comfortable rooms on a bed-and-breakfast basis. A vehicle is essential for visitors to this famed area and guests can park on the property.
After one of Catherine's wonderful home-cooked breakfasts, the town of St. Emilion is intensely interesting, both in the form of its historic monuments and in the role it plays in relation to its lifeblood wine trade. Quality restaurants exist in the town but especially so in the surrounding countryside and villages which Catherine is happy to book. Guests can walk through the vineyards into the town, cycle the back lanes or take day trips to other reowned wine areas such as the Medoc and Left Bank. Chateau Franc-Pourret produces fine, mainly merlot-based wines in its own right and these are available for purchase. Inspections of the winery and back-vintage tastings are also available.
This little establishment fits well in the context of St.Emilion and is an excellent base for visitors wishing to spend time in this beautiful area.

I chose this place for us to spend two nights due to TA reviews I'd read, and we were not at all disappointed. Our room, at the top of a long staircase (no lift, for those who need help with their luggage) was large and comfortable, with a beautiful bathroom and spacious shower (compared to many others in Europe). When we opened the shutters outside our window we had gorgeous views, both towards St. Emilion and also out over the vineyards (a double rainbow greeted us!). Catherine is a wonderful host, very helpful. The breakfast, different both mornings, was full of variety and very delicious, always including meats and cheese and baguette plus something just out of the oven, with creamy homemade yogurt and an extensive variety of homemade preserves (including green tomato!) and even Canadian maple syrup for the pain perdu the second day. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone who has a car and wishes to visit St. Emilion, a precious little town.

Our four night stay here was just perfect in every way. The room was very clean and comfortable, with coffee, tea and sparkling water provided. The views from the windows were spectacular.
Easy few minute drive into Saint Emilion. The walk is about 20 minutes, but through the vines and back streets. So picturesque. Perfect base for exploring the area.
Breakfasts were so delicious and the home made jams were the best I'd ever had.
Catherine, thank you for being so warm and welcoming. We absolutely loved our stay with you. Hopefully we will return in the future.

I have to echo the previous reviews - this place is special. The chateau only offers 2 rooms so there is very much the feeling of being a guest in someone's home (rather than a hotel stay).
Mme Ouzoulias welcomed us warmly on arrival and showed us round the house and made sure we knew what facilities she offered.
The room we had was very large with beautiful french furniture, a double bed with lovely linen, spacious en-suite shower room and wonderful views over the surrounding vineyards. There are half bottles of wine (to purchase), chocolates, water, a coffee machine and a fridge provided in the room. Free wifi is also available. Car parking is available at the front of the house under the shade of a huge tree.
The chateau is approximately 15-20 minutes walk into town, along a stone track through the vineyards and a torch is provided if you are walking home from dinner in St Emilion.
Mme Ouzoulias' breakfasts are wonderful! Unlike any continental breakfast we've had previously. The table is set outdoors directly overlooking her vines and each morning we had fresh vine leaves & roses decorating our table. Juices, cereals, yoghurt, fresh bread and croissants, ham, cheese and then homemade apricot clafoutis one day and citrus tarts the next. And 7 homemade jams and preserves! A wonderful start to the day. She also offers an enhanced breakfast with some cooked items for an additional fee but we did not choose this option.
Our trip concided with the St Emilion Jazz Festival so the road next to the chateau was fairly busy but not enough to disturb us.
Mme Ouzoulias also provided anti-mosquito plugs, electric fan, hairdryer, local maps, guide books, etc and offers tours round their own vineyards.
All in all we had a wonderful stay and truly felt like a guest in Mme Ouzoulias home. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a unique experience - and very much hope to return.

Hi there,
My husband is positive he found it on "B o o k i n g . c o m ."
Enjoy
About twenty-five minutes. We walked it twice round-trip by the scenic route cross-country through the vineyards to a road that winds past the St Martin cemetery to the city gate by the church. You cannot get lost because you can see the chiurch tower the entire walk. If you walk along the highway - which is busy - it would be maybe 15 minutes. Parking in St Emilion during the day is not easy to find, so walking was a better choice. In the evening, we didn’t have a problem finding parking for dinner.
