Staying at La Maison de la Commanderie was the highlight of our stay in Saint-Emilion because it brought the beautiful town practically INTO our room. We stayed in the Chavlier’s room, with an entire wall of huge windows that overlooked the town and the vineyards, so we could see Saint-Emilion day and night— as the sun shifted over the gold stones and then as the whole place magically illuminated after dusk. The room was supremely comfortable and spacious, with a great bed and all-important air-conditioning during the heat wave. Lovely long bathroom, great shower, fab decor, mini-bar: in short, all the amenities one needs. (That is, except for a lift. La Maison is a converted medieval building, so be prepared to climb 1-2 flights of stairs). There’s even parking right next to the hotel— paid, but reasonable. Best of all, the host, Laurent, was gracious, informative, and welcoming. He recommended a wonderful local restaurant for dinner and makes a delicious breakfast. Our stay at La Maison made Saint-Emilion come alive for us. Highly recommended.

Arrived at the hotel and it was hard to find anyone to book us in. The small reception area was full of bicycles and bundles of clean linen and we had to pick our way through with our luggage. Our room was very nice, clean and comfortable, bathroom was ok but the towels were old and thin. Nice coffee machine but only paper cups to drink it from and no tea making facilities. Also the glasses we used for wine were left unwashed from the night before. We were asked if we would like breakfast which we did but the second morning the door was locked and we had to have breakfast in the town. A bit of advice for anyone thinking of booking. Ask for a 2nd floor room as the building is very old and the floorboards are very creaky. If you are a light sleeper it will keep you awake.

We had a magnificent short break in the beautiful Saint Emilion, staying in the fantastic Maison de la Commanderie. We were lucky enough to enjoy the quirkiness and views of the Suite du Commandeur with it’s own walled “balcony”, we had a gorgeous breakfast presented by our lovely host Laurent and got to enjoy the fabulous local restaurants and of course the wonderful wine. Parking was easy and free on the edge of Saint Emilion just 5 minutes walk to the guest house. We had a magnifique time and we can’t wait to go back

Although our first purpose for a visit to St. Emilion was for the wines, we took a chance based on past reviews that this would be a well-located, lovely place to stay. It ended up being one of the more memorable parts of our journey, particularly because of the service provided by the owner, Laurent. He was clearly proud of his hôtel de charme. Laurent's English was sufficient for us to converse, and he was a patient conversationalist as my wife practiced her French. Finally, the breakfast he prepared was ample, tasty, and complemented by conversation. Just arrange in advance -- Well worthwhile.

This little gem of a hotel was such a find we give it the highest marks possible. Laurent, the owner, is so hospitable and helpful and makes a fabulous pear tart for breakfasts. Impeccably clean and stylish. The room we stayed in had windows galore framing views of the village and countryside beyond. Bravo, Laurent. Top notch.

The location is amazing, the parking space just outside the hotel is probably the best place to look at the magnificent Saint Emilion. The host is amazing, with a proper notification they have arranged a great Gluten Free breakfast. it was a very good and nice surprice for us. Very recomended

We stayed in one of the rooms on the top level which had fantastic views (both day and night) over the heritage protected town of St Emilion. The Maison was located very close to the centre of town, with a short walk to the many restaurants, wine shops and other attractions. Our room was spacious with the bedroom in the loft (access by stairs), and bathroom / living area downstairs. The rooms are clean and rustic in style. Good shower temp and pressure, and good solid bed. The only downfall was the thin walls and crying baby next door. Wear earplugs. Hosts are very helpful, wifi is reliable, and the room rate reasonable (note, breakfast is not included in the room rate). A tip - the two flights of stairs to the top are narrow and steep, so to avoid lugging boxes of wine up to the top, buy your wine on the last day in the region ;-) Parking is tricky but manageable. We would strongly recommend staying in St Emilion (so much to experience), and at la Commanderie.

We were 3 friends who booked at the very last minute (same day) and were incredibly lucky to get 2 nights. We had to move to a different room for the second night but that only added to our wonderful experience as we got to see two totally different rooms. The wonderful host Laurent offered to help us with our bags and do anything to help us with our move. The first room was on the top floor and had a balcony which overlooks the entire town, the mezzanine level bedroom was extraordinary in its quirky wonderful decor. The second night we were one floor down with a very different but equally wonderful spacious two room suite. The location was absolutely the best, Laurent was a warm, helpful, wonderful host. He makes the amazing breakfasts himself...homemade yoghurt, jams, pear tarte tatin, warm boiled eggs, he warms milk for the nespresso coffees, and provides endless toasted baguette and pastries to spread with a great choice of cheeses, or jams. Breakfast is taken at a communal table which was a wonderful way to meet other travellers from all over the world. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the breakfast table to start the day exploring beautiful Saint-Emillion, but Laurent had plenty of suggestions too help us with that too. If I am ever lucky enough to visit Saint Emillion again I would definitely stay at the Maison de la Commanderie.

My wife and I booked the Suite du Commandeur for three nights at the Maison de la Commanderie in St. Emilion. It was such an extraordinary experience that I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could. This suite room is quite spacious with a small breakfast nook, an upstairs loft bedroom with skylight, an amazing bathroom with large shower and an ample living room. The rooms, as I've called them, are actually one contiguous open space, except of course for the bathroom and loft, which is up a few steps. In addition the space opens up to a terrace with a table and two chairs. The views in four different directions from the terrace are amazing. It has to be one of the highest points in the town. The bed in the loft, under the skylight, was so comfortable we didn't want to leave it in the morning. Laurent is also such a gracious host and a wonderful human being. For an additional cost he will provide a full breakfast for you in the downstairs kitchen area. He is one reason why we would return to this outstanding inn. I can highly recommend this inn to anyone seeking a place to stay in St. Emilion. I cannot imagine a more amazing location in this village. We were thrilled with our short stay at this magnificent inn.

We had a great stay in St Emilion in the Maison de la Commanderie. Our host Laurent was delightful. He gave us an upgrade to the Commander’s room and served up a delicious breakfast including home cooked local specialities. He was also a veritable fund of information about the locality, food and wine. The place itself was quirky (built as the commander’s house of the Templars in the 12th century) but excellent with great views over the village. We were visiting in February and were very happy to see St Emilion at its quietest. I thoroughly recommend this place.
