Not having a TV was hard to get used to especially for those in my party who are used to sleeping with a TV on. As for me, I was fine. No AC, okay by me because the windows being open and the box fan provided made it very comfortable to sleep. Breakfast was delicious and I'd give that an...

First off...read the reviews: this is a old-timey rustic inn...no air conditioning, no phones, no frills. It does have Internet, which was spotty. Once you agree mentally to this, it's a wonderful place. The main floor has a huge, lovely library where you can get early morning coffee and tea, etc. the lobby area is vast, with puzzles, board games,...

We enjoyed our stay over a three day weekend. It was off-season, so the inn was not crowded. Weather was warm during the day and cool at night. The inn has no AC, but they do have window fans in each room and with temperatures in the low 80's during the day and 60's at night, we were very comfortable....

The Balsam Mountain Inn is an historic place to visit! The rooms are spacious; the setting lovely and quite private; the staff friendly; the hotel grounds beautiful; the showers were nice; the breakfast was quite good; the atmosphere was wonderfully positive--a great throwback to life in earlier years. The remodeling was good. Wi-Fi was spotty, but that is not why...

We had such a great time this past weekend at Balsam Mountain Inn, it was very peaceful and relaxing. Instead of sitting around watching TV, which they don't have, we spent time together playing board games in the lobby. We read books while taking in the cool mountain air on the porch, and not once did we miss a television....

All wood construction in 1908. Remodeled in the 1990s to combine rooms and add baths to each room (no private baths prior to that). The room and bath were adequate. No ac but cool at night in late August. Ample air flow if you leave your window open and transom over door open. King bed was fine. furniture in the...

We just spent three days at this beautiful, historic Victorian inn nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. From the moment you enter the inn you feel as though you are entering a simpler time and place. From the rocking chairs on the porches to the friendly staff you will feel right at home. The dining facilities were excellent...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Balsam Mountain Inn! The accommodations are sweet & simple but magical! It was my husbands first time staying at a B&B. Upon arrival, he wasn't sure this type of place was for him but his mind has been changed! Even in August, a box fan in the window kept the room more...

Went to Balsam Inn for a quick girls getaway with friends (we are all early 50's). We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night, ate breakfast each morning but did not eat dinner at restaurant in evening. Our weekend had live music Saturday night with lots of people coming in so inn was full for the weekend. We were told...

No phone, no pool, no TV, no Radio, no newspaper, just a wonderful environment and old fashioned hospitality. That is a real week end get away. We enjoyed the big front porch and rocking chairs in the afternoon, then had a wonderful dinner with top rate entertainment. Breakfast was really nice and included in the price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Read, rest, ramble and romp at the Balsam Mountain Inn! Nestled among lofty Smoky Mountain peaks just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Balsam Mountain Inn was completed in 1908 to serve the highest railway depot in the east. Restored in 1991, the inn now welcomes travelers with 50 cheerful rooms, rocker-filled porches, a fine library and gracious dining. Plump pillows and soft comforters inspire pleasant dreams! In December, 2011, the Inn came once again to be owned by Merrily Teasley, the innkeeper who restored the structure two decades ago. An experienced rescuer of wonderful buildings, Teasley bought the derelict inn in 1990, and her certified rehabilitation effort helped the inn – already on the National Historic Register – experience a rebirth. ... more   less
