Welcome to the Hawk and Ivy. Come immerse yourself in a place of great beauty that nurtures both body and spirit. We are Asheville’s oldest eco bed and breakfast with a deep commitment to offering an experience that is green, sustainable, and honors the sacredness of all life. Our 1910 Farmhouse and guest cottage are filled with treasured family antiques, fine paintings and crafts. Lovely all cotton linens and down comforters cover the beds. Eve fills the rooms with fresh flowers and plants to create a feeling of simple elegance and comfort. A stroll on our 24 acres reveals wildflower meadows, mountain views, a pond with gazebo, and our magical, renovated barn, a perfect place for weddings, large events, or just a quiet cup of coffee watching for wild turkeys or deer in the meadow. The heart of the bed and breakfast is our organic gardens, nurturing both the body and soul with fresh flowers, herbs, vegetables, and delicious berries. Our guests rave about their healthy gourmet breakfasts where those berries and vegetables are served with local eggs and home cooked muffins. Eve is a life long gardener and highly published garden and floral designer. For the last two years she has been the chairman of Slow Food Asheville. We proudly take responsibility for being a Slow Food Bed and Breakfast, serving food which is locally grown and in season. We offer a perfect balance for those who wish to retreat in a rural setting and yet enjoy easy access to the restaurants and cultural offering of Asheville. We are so close to Asheville (20 minutes) and yet a world apart.

Detailed Reviews
My friends and I decided to go zip lining at Navitat in Asheville and they recommended Hawk & Ivy. James and Eve made us feel like family...they prepared a gourmet breakfast each morning and we sat with the other guests like family. Even Eve and James joined us!! It was so very special.
The rooms were absolutely delightful. Each morning, Eve and James would ask if we had plans and what we wanted to do...if we had an idea, but no specific plans, they would pull out a map and give us ideas.. and the maps! I felt as if I was staying with family. The B&B is super clean and they are the most wonderful people on earth!!! LOVE THEM!!!

We just got back from 5 nights in Hawk and Ivey. We stayed in the first floor cottage which was very clean, had a kitchen and a deck with the view of the mountains. Both James and Eve were wonderful hosts and breakfast was superb every morning. They even went through a lot of trouble to accomodate my son's allergies by making delicious pancakes and waffles made from corn and rice flour. My boys enjoyed running around the grounds, playing in the barn and most of all playing soccer with Nell (the very friendly dog). This is definitely a vacation that we would want to repeat.

Our children bought us a two night stay and Hawk and Ivy, so for our anniversary we booked the weekend. We were met by James and later met Eve, both very charming and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was at 9:00 AM and meals were delightful and not what I expected, all are healthy and most items locally grown. We had three couples there and the meal was enjoyable along with the conversation and exchanging stories. James and Eve can always give you great ideas on sites to see and travel the area for wonderful adventures. The grounds are very well maintained and flowers at every turn. The family dog was our tour guide and seemed to enjoy leading you around the property. Rooms are good size and very clean, serviced daily.
They also do weddings here and have an area on the mountain just behind your lodging that is a marvelous view. It's almost like time stops and you have no worries just walking around the property. I was pleasently surprised and would recommend this to families looking for a get away unlike they have ever had.
I took photo's buy saw what I would submit on another review.

My wife and I stayed at the Hawk and Ivy after learning that our usual Asheville place to go was full. I would rank the Hawk and Ivy as just "ok" as a B&B. (But hey, it's cheaper than others too.) Before we arrived, the manager told us on the phone that we could go ahead and leave our bags in the room and check in later. (They had somewhere to go, and we had dinner plans with some relatives in the area.) When we went back to check in the manager saw us pull into the driveway, but wouldn't come to the door. Finally, his children showed up from behind the house and let us in. It was a little odd. Our room was nice -- nothing fancy, but comfortable. Breakfast was great. The Hawk and Ivy has sort of a beatnik, hippie ambience set against a Victorian backdrop (stay a night and you'll see what I mean).

We chose to stay at Hawk and Ivy for our anniversary get-away to Asheville primarily because of the proprietors' commitment to meet specific dietary requirements of their guests. In our case, my wife is GF, and James and Eve made certain that each breakfast was not only stunningly presented, absolutely delicious and bounteous enough to get us through to dinner if we chose to skip lunch during our day trips, but GF as well. James' GF waffles are sinfully light and tasty - I teased him that if they hadn't been topped with apples and sour cream they would have floated clean off the plate! And given James' and Eve's intellectual and cultural interests, breakfast conversation was just as satisfying as the breakfast itself. We stayed in the very cozy 2nd floor suite in the Guest Cottage, and availed ourselves of the kitchen accommodations so I could fix a GF pizza for our Friday "date night" of pizza and a movie. Our 5-day stay went all too fast, and we look forward to visiting in the summer, when we can enjoy the splendor of Eve's garden. Hawk and Ivy is what a first-class B&B should be!

My sister and I stayed at Hawk and Ivy for a week in October 2013. The grounds are beautiful and just a short and pretty drive from the vibrant city of Asheville. It was the owners Eve and James that made our stay magical. Each morning over our delightful breakfast they helped us plan our day. Each recommendation they made based on what interested us was fabulous. There are many places to stay if you are planning a trip to the area but trust the reviews on this B and B. I am so glad we did and chose to spend our week here. It was unforgettable

I took my mom to the Hawk and Ivy for a Mother's day weekend getaway in May 2010. (been meaning to do a review!) When I found this B&B online, the main draw for me was the mountain scenery/retreat type feel and the organic food offerings. Eve and James (owners of the Hawk and Ivy) are truly delightful people. Sweet, welcoming and inspiring. Meeting & spending time with them was such a great part of our stay.
The property is beautiful- Eve's garden is magical. James has poetry scattered throughout, which brings a lovely personal touch. The scenery and landscape is also quite alluring. The breakfast every morning was absolutely stunning- Eve is an amazing cook, and very inspiring to watch her create such delightful meals. (plus seriously tasty!) We stayed in the cottage outside of the main house- (the downstairs 2 bedroom) it was sweet and the beds were comfortable. Over all, we had a great stay. You won't be disappointed when you give this B&B a try!!

My weekend stay at the Hawk & Ivy Bed & Breakfast was a quaint and old-fashioned experience of country sided hospitality. Staying in the Hawk & Ivy guest cottage surrounded by cozy furnishings, family antiques, and original paintings felt charming and pleasant. I especially want to compliment James and Eve on their delicious gourmet breakfasts thoughtfully prepared and their enjoyable morning conversations. The picturesque gardens surrounding the Hawk & Ivy are beautiful and makes the accommodations especially welcoming and appealing.

My husband and I have stayed at numerous B&Bs but this was by far the best! Eve and James are hosts like no other! They were both so helpful the moment we made the reservation. Even on my first phone call with Eve, it felt like we were old friends. The B&B was just gorgeous. We had the room in the main house and it was super cozy and comfy and so well furnished. Little trinkets and paintings and plants added a beautiful touch. The official greeter waiting to welcome you is the cutest Welsh Corgi Garreth who was our companion for the next two days. His side-kick Grace, a beautiful kitten, would frolic around chasing the birds and it was fun to watch both of them at play. After the official Garreth greeting came the warmest and friendliest hug from Eve and much-needed tea! They have a gorgeous deck for sitting out and watching birds of every color feeding at the feeders. The main living room , dining room and kitchen were so tastefully done and felt just like home. Eve and James have maintained a wonderful garden where they grow their own (delicious) fruits. Eve gave us a nice house tour accompanied by great stories. We enjoyed our long and satisfying walk around the property accompanied by Garreth and Grace. Once you pass the fruit gardens, you come upon the barn where weddings and retreats are held. The small lake and gazebo is gorgeous. We walked all over and discovered the 'spiritual circle' in a clearing. You can sit on the bench here and find the answers to life's many questions. And if Garreth isn't chasing them, you get to see the cute bunnies hopping around. We had the best breakfasts in the world right here at Eve and James' table. Served on fine beautiful dishes (we got to choose our own plate from the treasure trove as a treat on day 2), every morsel was delectable. We were served fruit first and Eve decorated each plate so artistically with berries and edible flowers and leaves from her garden. The first day, James cooked out-of-this-world blueberry cornmeal pancakes and the second day was the best scrambled eggs I have ever eaten (sprinkled with sunflower seeds). Sausage and homemade muffins with different fillings accompanied both breakfasts. There was only one other couple staying there and we all spent two hours at every breakfast talking about love, life, art and everything else under the sun. We also had impromptu Origami ( I taught this) and Calligraphy (the other sweet guest taught this) classes around the table. Eve and James made dinner reservations for us both nights at two excellent restaurants: Stoney Knob Cafe and Glass Onion. They also gave us hand-drawn maps and information about various hikes and attractions in the area. We were just so fortunate to have found this B&B and these beautiful people who made our stay and holiday a memory to cherish forever.

is a retreat for those who want to get out of the city and spend some meditative time in the country. A summer highlight here is the stretches of terraced and manicured kitchen gardens.
We drove in close to 9 p.m. Jareth, a feisty Corgi and his owner James Davis welcomed us. Within moments we climbed steps to the second floor of a cottage and paused to star gaze. Away from the city Orion was bright and I saw stars usually dimmed at home by sprawling suburban skyshine. ( Was that the Milky Way?) Our “room” was a basic studio apartment. A small kitchen, equipped with coffee and tea, was separate from a main room which was carved into living and bed room. No worries of disturbing other guests.
The next morning Eve, a dedicated garden and floral designer, welcomed us with warm hugs. Her Southern hospitality included a tour of her historic 1910 home, where one guest room is available. The house is a mini-museum of family antiques reaching back to an 18th century grandfather clock. Eve goes on to spin relevant family Civil War tales.
Breakfast started around 9 a.m. with a homemade basil-blackberry sorbet topping sweet grapefruit with a side of warm tomato biscuits and orange marmalade. The second course was spinach omelet composed with local eggs.
After breakfast, hugs were had and we turned right to begin our journey north.
