Very small room with one bed, one tiny chair and no place to put luggage except on the floor. Bed not properly made up; could see bottom of mattress with tag hanging out. Corner room with fire escape on both sides and windows unlocked. Anyone could have come in. Bathroom was adequate and very clean. No TV and no telephone....

As a hotel, the greatest benefit for the Monte Vista is its location in downtown Black Mountain. Downtown begins less than a block away. We didn't need to drive anywhere. The room was a bit small, and ours did not have a lounge chair -- which I thought a rather glaring omission. I noted when checking out, as I passed...

Clean and tidy accommodations. Staff in the bar were excellent on Friday and Saturday night-very accommodating and made great recommendations for things to do in the area. Food served in the bar was excellent. Bar stops serving everything at 9:30pm. The breakfast buffet was adequate, but no staff around to replenish and refresh, coffee available, but could be better. Children...

We stayed in the newer section of this hotel for two nights. What immediately struck me was the total lack of amenities and the basic facilities in the room. No phone, no clock radio, no coffee maker, nothing on the walls (except for a nice flat-panel TV), and no cups or glasses in the bathroom. There was not even a...

Ambiance, hospitality, amenities, warmth, inviting - these are not words that came to mind during our stay at the Monte Vista Hotel. We first stayed at this hotel 20 years ago when it was owned by the family of the original owners. What a wonderful experience it was then. The lobby was full of families laughing and paying games. The...

I ate Sunday lunch with a group of 12. The menu selections were varied and tempting, but many items were unavailable because the grill was broken. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our meals ranged from sandwiches to meat and potato dinners with desserts. All were delicious. I chose an average rating because the menu choices were limited. The waitress delivered one...

We booked at Monte Vista based on web pictures and descriptions of rooms. We stayed in the modern annex rooms. Our room was totally minimal. We had no phone, no coffee maker, no clock, no cups or glasses. There was a bed, end table wall mounted slabs, and a single straight chair. When we asked at the front desk about...

My husband and I stayed at the Monte Vista Hotel during peak foliage season. We wanted to stay in Asheville, but everything was booked months in advance, so we found this place in Black Mountain. The room (lodge) was very small with a queen bed and one chair. It was clean, but much smaller than we anticipated. It's not a...

We just stayed at the Monte Vista and would definitely stay here again. We initially searched for a hotel Asheville but due to the time of year everything was sold out or extremely expensive. We started looking at B&Bs right outside of Asheville and came across this gem. The room was reasonably priced and was clean. The decor was simple...
