Stayed here for a concert at Spectrum Center-perfect location for that. The hotel is clean, and up to date. The rooms are very clean. We stayed in a King room with sofa bed which was very roomy, with a large bank of windows fronting College Street. We heard some traffic noise, but it didn't disturb our rest. It was odd having the sink to the bathroom in the hallway of the room, as opposed to in the bathroom. I also really hated the desk night light, which was motion sensor and directly across from the bed-there appeared to be no way to cut it off. It did disturb my sleep each time my husband got up in the middle of the night.

The parking was in an adjacent parking deck labeled Wake Forest University. Some things to note: The elevators marked Wake Forest (closest to 5th street) do not go to the hotel-if you use them, you are diagonally opposite to the lobby area on the street. The hotel elevator is located closer to (6th), however, that elevator did not work during our stay. Note that the hotel charges $29 for self-parking, and you have to get the front desk to validate your ticket.

Check in: I had reserved two rooms. I was able to do on-line check-in, and obtain a digital key for one room. The second room required me to go to the front desk. The line to the front desk went all across the lobby, through both sets of entry doors, and out down the side walk. I was told by someone in line that there had been some computer issues earlier that created the back log. I was given no explanation by the front desk for the delay; there was no apology for the delay; I wasn't recognized as a hilton honors member, and I wasn't offered their signature cookie (I know-first world problems-but still).

Keys: I had to go to the front desk 4 times during our 20 hour stay because our keys kept deactivating. You have to use a key to use the elevator.

Coffee: The coffee shop had no coffee. Despite having a fairly elaborate looking coffee machine, the girl working there said she had to go downstairs and make the coffee, and she couldn't leave her post that long. She very nicely heated up my cinnamon roll, and then placed it, unwrapped, upside down on the bottom of the bag.

Following the concert we attended, we were greeted by a large crowd waiting for the elevators. They did an excellent job of making sure the elevators were full, but not over-filled-it was very efficient.

I would consider a stay here again, mainly because of the convenience to down-town, and the comfort of the rooms.

This is in a prime location in uptown Charlotte and I was excited to that they were renovating what used to be a Holiday Inn. There was zero quality check on the remodel and whatever contractor they used should be ashamed. I received an upgraded room which had paint chipping already and no attention to detail, the toilet rocked and the shower door did not close all the way. There also was barely any light by the desk except for an annoying underlight that would turn on and off with motion. It had one outlet by the desk - One! If the room wasn't bad enough, there were restaurant charges on my room that were not mine.

We stayed on the 9th floor of this newly remodeled Holiday Inn. They are still in the process of remodeling but our room was freshly redone. The decor was beautiful and everything was clean and fresh. The bathroom had a large walk in shower with a glass door. We did find the "new" smell in the room a bid strong, whether from paint of new carpet, I'm not sure. The safe in our room did not work. The wifi worked well. We had a room on the backside of the hotel that did not look out over the street and it was nice and quiet.

We stayed at the newly remodeled hotel for a cheer competition over MLK weekend and had nothing but problems. We arrived at 6pm and were told there was no reservation under our name or confirmation number. I showed them my email/receipt and was told that my room had been cancelled due to non-payment. I was never told that my stay had to be paid in full beforehand. Thankfully they were able to get me a room but once we got to our room, upon looking at my receipt, I was charged $60 more than was I originally reserved. I went back down to the front desk and they were able to credit back the difference to my bill.

The rooms seemed nicely renovated but we quickly found out that nothing worked and the room wasn't entirely clean (candy in drawers and hair everywhere). My daugher took a shower and there was zero drainage. There were disgusting particles floating around along with hair, etc. We had to use all of our room towels to try and mop all of the excess water that came out onto the bathroom floor. After calling maintenance/housekeeping twice, and trying to scoop up the water with our ice bucket-45 minutes later they arrived. Housekeeping brought more towels and maintenance came with a giant shop vac. The overflowing water was sucked up but then I was told he'd need to get special tools to clear out the drain. He left multiple times to get multiple tools over a two hour period. The electric snake/clog opener was extremely loud. By this time, it was already 10pm and we just needed to sleep to be ready for competition early the next morning. The maintenance tech told me that the drain should be clear enough to at least have a very quick shower. Seriously? I just paid $250 for night and not even been able to relax for 5 minutes after a long car ride and now no shower either!

The next morning we tried to shower and water was still overflowing in the bathroom. In addition, our HVAC unit was flooding all over the floor! Then my daughter went to use the hair dryer, which was covered in a sticky substance and should've been disposed of year ago. I left several messages and comments but at present time, not one person has gotten back to me about this disaster of a hotel stay.

After a debacle of a travel day, I unexpectedly had to stay in Charlotte. American Airlines provided me a voucher for the Doubletree Charlotte City Center. Pleasantly surprised by the property as I did not realize the Holiday was renovated. The room came out nicely. I was in a small studio suite room behind the elevator and was unable to hear any noises. The air conditioning in the room worked phenomenal and cooled the room quickly. The only downfall to the property is the size of the bathrooms which were very small having the sink in the living room. Due to the shortness of my stay, I did not have the ability to utilize the fitness center so I can not comment on it.

DO NOT STAY HERE. There is a club next door blasting out music all night (Sunday). You will not sleep. Not warned about the noise at check in but when issue raised throughout the night it was clear to staff that this was a known issue that obviously happens every weekend. Do not stay here.

Stayed for a long weekend for a cheer competition. The rooms are all brand new and very nice. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. The best part was the free warm cookies they have at the front desk. Staff was friendly. My only wish was that the Starbucks was open all day.

Donnie at the bar was wonderful! So pleasant, very friendly and the drinks were perfect every time! He offered great tips about the city and was very professional. The breakfast staff were also wonderful! And the Valet gentleman was kind and ready to always assist. Overall excellent experience! Will definitely visit again!

Hotel is in a wonderful location around the corner from the Spectrum Center. Nice rooms but……when I reserved this hotel I was never notified that my stay was the LAST WEEK this hotel was IHG HOLIDAY INN before becoming a HILTON DOUBLETREE. Hotel main lobby was closed. Had to walk a block to get to “temporary” lobby which was opposite side of building from parking garage. It was a mess to say the least, rooms weren’t ready. Had a line of folks checking in that went out the door. I understand IHG trying to make money last few days of this hotel but by not informing guests that hotel was under construction with changes to lobby and check in process was unacceptable!

By far the worst Hilton stay of all time. The “upstairs” bar across the street playas super loud and repetitive music till 3am every night! I had headaches everyday since I couldn’t sleep and had to wake up early for meeting and the management care less about the situation! It is shameful of the Hilton corporation or this hotel management to put their guests through this unpleasant environment every night for the price they charged and didn’t do anything about it or offer any compensation!
I would give this a zero star for customer service, location and a motel quality! Avoid at all costs!
