I loved this hotel ! ! ! If I could give it 10 stars I would ! We stayed in a very quaint room that had everything we needed and nothing more and we also felt like we were at home the entire time which was super nice ! The best part of the entire trip was Bob ( ?...

I'm hesitant to review this hotel because it is in the process of being sold and will soon be under new management. Ursula and Captain Bob are retiring. That's a shame. They are dedicated to making their guests comfortable and knowledgeable about the area. The restaurant is rarely open now but Ursula doesn't mind occasionally sharing her meals with the...

I've stayed here a few times while doing the Mattamuskeet Christmas Bird Count. I don't think there is anywhere else to stay for a fair distance around, especially in the winter. But despite having a bit of a monopoly the hotel is good. A bit run-down, rooms a bit small, but clean, and the staff very friendly and cooperative, including...

The property has some of the nicest owners I've ever meet. They are some welcoming and inviting. Very knowledgable about the area. Fun to talk to. The hotel itself is very simple. The owners seem to take great pride in keeping it very clean. We didn't notice any problems. I think their main clientele are hunters, but it was a...

This motel was a life-saver for us on a birding trip through the Engelhard area. Ersella gave us a great room with a last minute reservation. The motel is not a Hilton but it sure beats traveling 50 or so more miles to Manteo for lodging. Room #1 has a double and twin bed which was great for two people....

This is a bare bones hotel with basic restaurant facilities, but you can save a lot on hotels for your hunting or birding trip, and get a $10 thin crust pizza served by super nice local folks. Convenient to Lake Mattamuskeet and all the regions parks and wildlife refuges.

When you visit Lake Mattamuskeet for birding or other activities - there are very few choices within 50 miles for B&B, hotel, motel or cabins. This Hotel is only 5 miles from the Park Office. There is a gas station and convenience store directly across the street. The hotel is an older building that shows its age, but is maintained....

I stayed here because of the proximity to the Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge, in which I had an early trip scheduled the next day during Swan Days. The room, with ensuite bath, was clean and comfortable - the home cooked breakfast was, as they say in Michelin, worth a detour. The owners are very friendly, and although Engelhard would not be...

Excellent hotel with very friendly owners. Basic accommodations but on site restaurant more than makes up for it. They are currently upgrading to memory foam beds. Best nights sleep I've ever had. Rates are good at $55 a night for single with queen bed and $66 for room with multiple beds +tax of course. This place saves me $200 a...

It not fancy but it lovely clean just as nice as can be. The proprietors Bob and Ursala go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. And it was the best internet connection I've ever had at any hotel!! The breakfast is nice the sausages are especially good

“Room #1 is located near the lobby so noise from the ice maker can be a problem if you are a light sleeper.”

“Room 5 is on the 1st floor front.. We could hear people on the porch and lights showed through windows. Try second floor for quiet & dark.”

“Rooms downstairs are non smoking and have great access to lobby, breakfast room and front porch. (There are some smoking rooms upstairs, but the owners hope to convert all to non-smoking in the near future.)”
