We have just spent a beautiful Mother’s Day weekend at “Riverhouse Country Inn” in Grassy Creek, N.C. (near West Jefferson) The setting offers a beautiful country landscape with great walking paths along the “river”. The 180 acre property features a beautiful country inn with a large, comfortable porch where great conversations begin. There are also other buildings on the property...

First visit to this inn. Fabulous piano player throuhout the meal. Crab cake appetizer sumptuous, trout melt in your mouth. Filet cooked to my specifications and fork tender. Bread pudding A bit of a let down after the two other courses. I may have been too full to really appreciate it! full bar is available too. Breakfast: terrific french toast...

My expectations were reasonable for a county inn on the river in rural NC. Those expectations were absolutely blown away. The meals were fabulous, the service impeccable and presented with grace and aplomb. Upon espying the piano in the dining room, I thought maybe someone would plunk away indifferently as entertainment, but the players each night were extraordinary! Adding even...

The food is delicious. The scenery is breathtaking. The hosts are fascinating and helpful without being intrusive. The location is out-of-the-way, but not so far from exciting things to do. The inn and cottages are historic. Don't expect new and shiny (although beds, linens, bathrooms, etc, are quite nice), but enjoy the ambiance and history.

I had River House booked as my venue for my wedding and decided it just wasn't worth it! The worst part of my experience is that Gayle, the house manager would not answer my questions. She corresponded per email but diverted from any questions I had in my email and I thought I would have to show up at the...

What a treat! From the moment we arrived this Inn pampered us. They know all about great customer service. The owner Gail treated us as if she had known us forever! We were there for Valentine's Day. The dinner was a 5 course meal. The live pianist made the atmosphere even more special. Our accommodations were very comfortable. The fireplace...

My husband booked this inn for our 1st anniversary. It was simply lovely. Quite unexpected considering the surrounding area. I'm not sure that we took the recommended route (good ole GPS) because we traveled for a quite a distance on an almost-gravel road along the muddy riverbank with many a rundown trailer. Then all of sudden the landscape changed and...

From the moment you arrive, you are treated as though you are already a "regular" (and there are plenty of those, for good reason) and welcomed. When we arrived at the Chicken House, it more than exceeded expectations. The pictures do NOT do it justice, everything was absolutely stunning. The tub was larger than expected, and in a perfect location....

This in not our first visit to the inn but one of the best. Gayle introduced us to friends who live nearby with the same names as ours! Wonderful meal, great stories, perfect evening and quiet restful sleep. We haven't stayed at an inn with a better breakfast than River House's plate. Thank you Gayle.

This was our second trip here. Many of the rooms are old farm out building that have been converted into rooms for two. All of these buildings are within walking distance of the main house, where a delicious breakfast was served. There is also a new Wee Cabin, which is away from everything else, on top of the hill, which...
