What an amazing boutique hotel. It truly deserves its excellent rating on TA. It is a beautiful hotel with a classy dog theme throughout and the rooms were just lovely. Dog beds, dog blankets, bowls, doggie goodie bags on check in and a constant supply of dog treats in the lobby. Mr. Pickles dog park is a short five minute stroll from the hotel. As we were travelling with an old basset we requested a ground floor room which we were allocated facing the side street. Rooms open to a courtyard with pretty seating areas and landscaping.
We reserved a one bedroom king which was perfect- comfy bed, marble type bathroom and a living area. Humans also are offered coffee, tea and cookies throughout the day, and there is a fridge in the lobby stocked with complimentary water, juice, milk etc. A light continental breakfast hits the spot - bagels, cream cheese,
pastries and pre prepared breakfast sandwiches etc.
The staff really make this hotel special. They are so welcoming, helpful and friendly. I absolutely love that they foster a shelter dog at the hotel who has spent far too much time at the local humane society . Not only does this provide a respite from kennel life but fingers crossed a furever home will be found. The current foster, Bandit, is a beautiful, friendly dog who hopefully will find his permanent family soon.
Finally, I must say that this hotel is spotlessly clean. There is not one whiff of a doggie smell anywhere - they are meticulous in their cleaning. Whether you are travelling with a pet or not this is the place to stay in Highlands. Our basset hound and coonhound are ready for a return visit!

In spite of being a hotel that encourages travelers to bring their dogs everything was very clean and quiet. Having a suite was wonderful as it is a quiet town in the evening therefore we had a comfortable place to sit after a walk through town. Bed was very comfortable, neither of us had any problems sleeping. Coffee, juice and bottled water is provided in the lobby at all hours, along with sugar cookies and dog treats if you have one. Great location for long walks through town or hiking in the surrounding area.

This hotel is absolutely amazing! The attention to detail was incredible! It is so wonderful that a hotel cateres to both people and dogs. The room was beautiful and had everything you could think of. It comes with a dog bed, blanket and bowls as well. Our dog was even given a toy and dog shaped “Cooke” on check in. Plus there were dog shaped cookies for us humans as well. The hotel owned dog park was a plus.
The hotel is located right in town so you can park you car in the spotless garage and explore the town on foot. Lots of beautiful scenery and waterfalls in the surrounding ares to explore. Can’t wait to go back!

I have not written a review in some time. Not because we have stopped traveling but because it became repetitive praising one location / hotel / restaurant after another. We have been very lucky in our travels to further destinations such as Bhutan, Nepal, Dubai, Chennai and many other places.

However, I cannot believe that our worst experience in the last 5 years was at a so called luxury hotel in Highlands, North Carolina. I fully appreciate the restrictions placed on hotels since the advent of Covid-19 however I cannot believe the lengths The Park on Main have exploited the situation for profit. We recently stayed for 5 nights in a King suite with fireplace.

During our stay;
The room was never cleaned.
The bathroom was never cleaned.
The bed linen was never changed.
The toiletries were never replenished.
We had to complain about the heating before it was turned on (no explanation on its operation when we checked in).
We had to empty the trash bins in the rooms into a large plastic bag which we had to leave outside the door at preset time.
We had to place used towels in a similar bag to be left with the trash outside the door.
We had to makeup the bed each day ourselves (remember no fresh bed linen.

On contacting the Hotel John Woods informed me that I should have read the small print which was hidden away on their website. There was no mention of no housekeeping when we booked by phone. He also said there was a notice (which we did not find) which suggested that if we did need any of the services we should have asked! We have never ever stayed in a hotel where it was necessary to have the room cleaned, especially what is supposed to be a luxury hotel.

I doubt this will prick the conscience of Mr Woods or the owners, after all their are plenty more tourists they can rip off!

We appreciate your feedback from your recent stay at The Park on Main. Currently, we are following CDC Guidance and not performing daily (stay-over) housekeeping service for the safety of our guests and staff. At check-in, all guests are notified that we will not be performing this service and told that if they need additional toiletries or cleaning in their room to notify the front desk. This is just one of the policy changes due to the COVID pandemic. This information is located on our website, in two (2) different locations in all guest suites and verbal notification from the front desk agent. We are sorry that you felt like you were being given excuses, but we take the seriousness of the current state of the pandemic very seriously and our guests have appreciated our concern for their well-being and are returning numerous times because they value the level of service and luxury that is offered at The Park on Main.

I visited Highlands, NC from 7/15/21 - 7/19/21 and was delighted to have stayed at the Park on Main. Diana warmly greeted me + my dog on arrival and from the start, made us feel very welcome. Any other time we saw Diana during our visit, she made sure to check in and connect with us. In fact, every single team member was gracious and hospitable, which made our stay even better.

The rooms are very clean and well appointed. The entire hotel is super quiet, which was a great delight. Even on Sunday, when many guest s had departed and the housekeeping team was working to clean the rooms, we never heard a vacuum or any disruptive noise. The overall quiet of the hotel environment was an unexpected, but very welcome feature!

The hotel has a dedicated dog park about a block away and my dog enjoyed running in the park and sniffing around. This was also a great feature and their policy of not charging extra for dogs was a key selling point.

During our stay, the housekeeping staff was not entering guest's rooms for daily cleaning. Instead, we were provided a bag for dirtied towels and another bag for garbage. We were asked to leave these bags outside our room and clean, wrapped towels were replenished on request. I actually preferred this housekeeping model. It allowed me and my dog to have more of an Air Bnb experience without working around the housekeeping cleaning schedule.

The hotel has a lovely courtyard, but we enjoyed time on our balcony, overlooking a beautiful garden facing away from Main Street. The hotel serves a basic continental breakfast, making sure all food items are individually wrapped (per Covid protocols).
I cannot wait to return to Highlands and stay again at Park on Main. It is well worth the expense to have a quiet, super clean, relaxing hotel near all the Main Street action. I highly recommend Park on Main and its professional and gracious team!

This celebration weekend was one of the best times we'd had together. Even though it caters to dogs, you would never know it...the place was so clean. Everything about the room was great except the couch creaked and seemed to sag when you sat down on it. We loved the separation living and bedrooms. I wish there was an ice machine on our floor (2nd floor) rather than having to go to the basement garage. Breakfast was plentiful with yogurt, boiled eggs, bagels, sweet rolls, fruit, cereal, juices, coffee and hot tea. It was served in the nice lobby sitting area, small but that wasn't an issue since there are only 28 rooms and it's available 7 -10a.
The best thing was the gorgeous courtyard that all the rooms open up to. Beautiful flowers were in full bloomed and along with the two fountains, benches, tables and chairs, it was a lovely place to sit for a drink or just to pass as you went to and from your room. It was also nice to have convenient free garage parking. Getting in the garage is a little tight, with a sharp 90° turn into it.
We loved our time at The Park on Main and hope to return again, especially when the summer is so hot in Atlanta but it's nice and good in the Highlands!

This hotel should be called bark on maine. The noise of dogs barking in adjacent rooms and a large filthy dog bed that greeted us as we entered the room even though we told them we were not bringing our dog with us was disappointing. FYI we love dogs! There’s no valet there’s no bell service you have to put your towels in a black plastic plastic bag outside the door. I have stayed in roadside holiday inns that were much nicer with better amenities. We booked a queen room but it is absolutely not a queen size bed. Terrible experience overall would never stay here again. Don’t be fooled by good photography or waste your $$$. Photos below show the balcony size and also how our clean towels got delivered (after asking for them twice) . Unfortunately we were stuck staying for 5 nights and no house keeping at all while other hotels have no problem doing this This hotel claims everything is “Covid” related but others in the same town do not.

Tammy, thank you for taking the time to review the Park on Main. Your review is almost identical to Michael's - whom you were traveling with in the same room (his review is above). Part of the decor in all our rooms is a custom dog bed, dog towel, dog bowl, and dog mat, which is very appropriate since we are dog friendly. We have some guests that ask us to remove all the dog amenities, and we happily do so; however, you did not request us to remove the dog amenities. We love dogs as well as you do and make sure that they feel special at The Park on Main. Sometimes dogs do bark. When we are notified of a barking dog, we will discuss this with the dog's owner. We do not have a record of you notifying the front desk of a barking dog or we would have taken care of that for you. We are a boutique hotel that has never offered valet or bell service, but we are willing to help with luggage if asked and if we are not assisting another guest. All our suites have either a Queen or a King-size bed, we do not offer rooms with full-size beds. Due to COVID, we are currently not entering any guests' rooms during their stay to ensure the safety of guests and our staff. Most guests are thrilled to hear that we will not be entering their room since we spend extra time sanitizing each room before arrival. I understand that everyone has a different level of comfort with COVID. Our area is taking more precautions than most areas for the safety of all guests and residents in Highlands. We hope that you enjoyed your time in the Highlands area and had a safe trip home.

a great location, great staff and the cleanliness is unbelievable! considering this hotel caters to dogs, there wasnt a dog hair to be found in our room! they even wipe down the wrought iron chairs on the small balcony and the outdoor chairs and tables on a regular basis! the continental breakfast may be the only disapointment, but that has been altered due to COVID, so I wouldnt make that a deal breaker. It is SO worth staying. We were 6 girls that stayed in 3 adjacent King Suites. Each had a separate living area that made it easy to let a late sleeper have quiet and still watch tv and snack, etc. it is at one end of the shopping/restaurant area of Highlands and its only 3-4 blocks to the other end. Couldnt have found a better place to stay!

Very nice hotel with welcoming staff. Stayed here during COVID times. The room was very clean on arrival and they ARE dog friendly although we didn't bring ours. We stayed in a king suite on the second floor (room 202) with our 2 teenage sons. I have 2 recommendations that would make this a 5 star review:
1. The breakfast needs some work. I know that you can't have your normal breakfast during this time and it is nice to put out a bagged breakfast every morning. My complaint is that you should contract with a local bakery to provide the muffins instead of using a muffin that comes from Sam's. Having Brunch HQ right down the street is a HUGE bonus - they are awesome and they are doing a great job with their sanitary measures.
2. The blinds in the front of the room need to be better - even closed, too much light comes into the room at night. My 2 sons didn't sleep well on the sleeper sofa in the front of the room between the light and people talking outside of their room. Our room, on the other hand, was quiet.

Took the lady to the Highlands to celebrate her birthday. We stayed at The Park On Main for two nights. It was an absolute gem of a room. We had a King Suite and were very impressed with everything. From the lobby to the room, everything was clean and covid safe. The room itself was huge and well designed. It was a great location in that it wasn't in the middle of town and was towards the end of Main street, which meant it was quiet and peaceful. The bathroom was big, the shower was big, there was good separation with closed off doors which made my wife extra happy as she tends to sleep later than me and she not only got extra quiet, but the room was pitch black as well. Great stay all around. Only minor flaws were that the pillows were very uncomfortable and there were only four. We like lots of pillows with a variety to choose from!

There is no outdoor pool. The weather this past weekend (July) was 64-68 degrees during the day so I wouldn't say it was swimming weather anyway. There is a lovely courtyard at Park on Main with fountains, etc. The Highlands Civic Center on 4th street has a pool that anyone can use (they charge just a few dollars for non residents). I believe they just installed a retractable roof, but you may want to call them before heading over.
