What a beautiful escape only 2 hours outside the city. The hotel was beautifully maintained and landscaped. The staff were courteous and friendly and took COVID 19 precautions seriously — this was one of the main reasons we chose to stay here. Hand hygiene stations, temperature checks on arrival, and mandatory masking were enforced. Great job!!!!! We particularly enjoyed speaking with Allistair and Kaliq who gave us an informative and entertaining orientation to the property. The complimentary champagne was a nice touch. Our cabin was beautiful and well appointed. Cocktails from the bar were delicious! We are only slightly disappointed in the evening hors d’oevres selection, as we expected more than crackers and a cheese ball in a place like this. The morning breakfast was beautifully presented but also slightly disappointing - too much cheese and beige - could have used some fresh greens or a touch of spice/color. Overall, we will return. Fab service and a relaxing easy getaway!

We recently enjoyed a 1 night stay at Half-Mile Farm by Old Edwards. The property is very tranquil and naturally beautiful and located approximately 2.5 miles from the downtown of Highlands.

All staff we encountered were genuinely helpful and accommodating.

Complimentary lite bites are provided in the afternoon and cookies throughout the day. Bottled water is available free of charge.
The small on-site pub has some food items but with a limited menu. We tried the burger and it was really good.

Unfortunately, we were assigned a room on the ground floor of the “luxury” wing. The room itself was very nicely appointed and comfortable. However, the peace of the room suddenly evaporated when the neighbors above entered their room. The noise of footsteps from above was horrible. It continued until our upstairs neighbors went to sleep and picked up right were it left off when they awoke before 7am. Our ability to go to sleep and sleep in was dictated by the noise from above. As well, I was awoken from my sleep when one of the upstairs neighbors, I assume, got up to use the restroom at 3am and heard them stomping around (I assume they used the restroom because you can hear the plumbing in the walls when the toilet flushes above).

I’d suggest staying on this property; though only if you can confirm an upstairs room or don’t care about noise from neighbors above.

Half-Mile Farm truly is a nice and relaxing place…. It’s so very unfortunate the noisy conditions of the lower level room we were assigned.

"farm" does not begin to describe the understated elegance of this property. Yes, and old farm/inn that has curated furnishings that create a sense of history and timelessness in the middle of comfort and grace. From the moment one steps across the threshold until one drives away, the entire staff stands alert to needs, wishes and wants. A glass of champagne upon arrival. A fire burning in the outdoor firepit. Complimentarily early evening finger food and wine. A wonderful bar with a knowledgeable bartender, delicious bar food (a step above normal bar food). The fire pit becomes a gathering spot - make a friend or site quietly. Breakfast is delicious, and substantial. No cheap "continental breakfast", made deliciously and freshly in their kitchen. We truly "vacationed", and when we wanted to eat in town, the staff went far and above to be sure we went to a spot that suited our taste. We will be back!

The Inn at Half-Mile Farm has become one of our favorite destinations. It is everything you could want in a true get away and more. The grounds and accommodations are just beautiful. You are made to feel welcome & invited to relax from the moment you drive up the driveway. The rooms are large & beautifully appointed. I love having both a bathtub and a separate shower. This was our 1st post Covid trip & we were astounded in other hotels that cleaning rooms & changing out towels are almost nonexistent. Not so at the Inn! We never had to ask (other than the sign on our doorknob) & it was done!
The breakfast is superb and the new dining room has windows/folding doors on 3 walls that can be opened so that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. It was sooooo nice to experience this when it was 100+° at home!
The bartender is so friendly and the happy hour Hors d’oeuvres were wonderful!
There are plenty of workers to take care of your every need.
Wi-Fi is free & available throughout the property. However, there is no cell service. You have instructions if you want to make Wi-Fi calls, or you can use the phone in your room. Honestly, this is one of the best parts of being on the property and completely relaxing. Many people spent their day on the property relaxing, reading on the front porch or by the pool. The property is adults only & pets are not allowed.
So, if you want a truly adult only, relaxing experience, this is the place for you.
Enjoy!

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary at Half-Mile Farm earlier this month. It was a beautiful setting with perfectly updated rooms that gave you a luxurious, but relaxing vibe. The daily breakfast was extremely good (you won't need lunch) and the afternoon snacks went great with the fully stocked bar. The back porch overlooking the picturesque lake was very peaceful. The pool/hot tub area seemed a little small, but there was plenty of room during our stay. We had a large suite with a big porch looking out into the forest that surrounds the inn. The heated floors in the bathroom were a nice touch, as were the 7 or 8 shower heads. Service was excellent and while there is no dinner served, they will happily shuttle you into town (3 miles away) for dinner and pick you up at your request. If you are looking for a relaxing long weekend in the mountains, you would be hard pressed to find a better place than Half Mile Farm. We have already rescheduled for a return trip in October.

My husband and I spent a weekend at Old Edwards several years ago and had a nice time but we didn't come home raving about it. After reading about this sister property in Garden and Gun, we decided to give it a try last weekend to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday since the pandemic prevented us from having a party. We had an AMAZING time and have been telling all of our friends about it since we've been home.

I highly recommend a Woodlands room - very private, nice balcony, fireplace, sitting area, heated bathroom floors, lovely soaking tub, multi-jet shower, etc. The included breakfast and afternoon happy hour appetizers were delicious (and live music a nice touch). The grounds including the pool, hot tub, fire pit, fishing/canoeing pond, ladder golf and corn hole on the lawn were all fun. We didn't know about the High Wire Distilling weekend when we first booked but that was an excellent addition to the weekend so I suggest checking out the events section to see what is planned in the future. The shuttle into town (5 minutes) was a great way to enjoy amazing Highlands restaurants and not worry about an extra glass of wine or cocktail :). Dinner at Madison's and Wild Thyme Gourmet were great! We hiked nearby Whiteside Mountain, Glenn Falls and to Sunset Rock. We grabbed a quick small lunch at Mountain Fresh Grocery (after big breakfasts and dinners didn't need much else). I cannot think of one thing that I would change about the weekend.

I wish it wasn't a 3 1/2 hour drive or we would be back sooner but we will definitely be back. It felt very secluded but was close to everything and the size was perfect - not too many guests to feel impersonal but not so small that there was any awkwardness. We have spent many weekends in the NC mountains at various hotels/resorts/inns, etc. over the past 25 years and this was by far our favorite.

Overall we had a good stay. We enjoyed the daily breakfast, staff was friendly, and we spent an evening by the firepit.

Our room was comfortable, however, it was directly underneath the spa and throughout the day we heard footsteps, conversation, and music from above. If we return, I would request a different room.

The pool and hot tub were closed for repairs which was a disappointment, since it was one of the reasons we chose Half-Mile Farm. I wish they would've notified us in advance or offered us a room at their sister property. Especially since they made a point to tell us it was open for the season when they called to confirm our reservation.

We appreciated small touches like the complimentary cookies, coffee/tea, and water bottles. But then strange things were overlooked. The room where they serve breakfast and afternoon appetizers was eerily quiet. With the exception of one morning, they didn't have any music playing which would've made it a more comfortable dining atmosphere.

This property feels better suited for groups than for couples.

Thank you for sharing your review on TripAdvisor, and we are happy that you enjoyed most aspects of your stay. We appreciate your feedback about the massage suite so we can take steps to alleviate any noise issues with that room. Regarding the pool, that was an emergency repair that occurred unexpectedly and had to be addressed immediately. We apologize for the pool being unavailable for a few days, and we opened the Old Edwards pools to Half-Mile-Farm guests during the repairs. We notified incoming guests to the degree possible, but since it was an unplanned outage, we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to provide advance notice to guests arriving that day. We agree that music should always play in the Woodview Room, and we apologize that it was either off or too low to hear. We are taking measures to ensure that does not happen again. We use your feedback to identify areas for improvement, and we hope to host you again so you can have an experience more in keeping with our usual Half-Mile Farm hospitality.

I've stayed at Old Edwards Inn twice before and now here. The property is beautiful, the food is fantastic, the service is very good, though a bit inconsistent - what was AWFUL was the noise level in Room 4. The lobby is right downstairs and one can hear the doors open and close, every conversation, etc. The first night I was woken up after midnight and again at 7am. The front desk would have been willing to move us, except the resort was fully booked, and they didn't offer any other accommodation. While Room 4 is the least expensive room at the resort, it's not inexpensive. When I travel, I am first and foremost paying for a place to sleep. I didn't get one. Fortunately, I remembered I had one set of ear plugs with me, so that helped. I'm somewhat shocked that they don't stock earplugs to offer guests, knowing the situation with this particular room. If you're going, I'd advise against staying in the main inn, and I'd definitely advise against staying in Room 4, unless you're an early riser.

We are so sorry that you experienced noise from the lobby while staying in Room 4. It is one of four rooms in the original farmhouse, and we usually try to let guests know when booking that this is a busier and more social area of the property. We really hope to host you for another visit so you can experience the other guestrooms that are set apart from the historic farmhouse. Thank you for posting your review on TripAdvisor, and again, we sincerely apologize.

We have stayed at Half-Mile Farm twice now, both times during the winter. This property is owned by the owners of Old Edwards Inn and it seems as though everything they do is top notch. We have used our visits as a cozy retreat and short break from the norm. The grounds are beautiful. The staff is friendly and very kind. The rooms are cozy and wonderful. Fireplaces crackling in several common areas. The food is amazing - the gourmet breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres are included. We would highly recommend Half-Mile and any of the other hotels/restaurants (especially Madison's and Four65) owned by this same group.

Having spent my early life in the NC mountains, I’m quite familiar with and have frequently stayed at some of the nicer leisure properties, like the Grove Park Inn and The Waynesville Inn. But I’d never spent time in Highlands, so my wife and I decided we’d do a a few one-nighters to explore some of the better known luxury properties in that area. We settled on Half-Mile Farm for our first look and we’re very glad we did. Besides the picturesque setting that was beautifully maintained, the service from everyone we encountered was comparable, in its context, to what you’d find in the best hotels in Manhattan, London, Paris, Hong Kong—anywhere we’ve stayed in fact. We can’t say enough good things about our visit and the wonderful people who pleasantly and eagerly catered to our wants and needs. I don’t know where you spend your leisure times, but you’d have to look hard to find anything more delightful than Half-Mile Farm. We look forward to returning for an extended stay!

No, but Half-Mile Farm has a lovely hillside heated mineral pool and jacuzzi with stone water wall behind it. And there are bicycles, canoes and kayaks for guest use. There is also a great yoga studio in town, and you can get a day pass at the Highlands rec center for weights and cardio equipment.

I’m not sure about that. I don’t think the cabins were easily accessed if one is in a wheel chair. Maybe the rooms in the main inn. I suppose that would be a question for the place. However, aren’t hotels required to be accessible?
