We've been fortunate to visit the OBX on a number occasions over the last few years. For our latest visit we decided not to hire a home, or stay in a 'chain' hotel. Shutters on the Banks had reasonable reviews so, despite the slightly higher than average cost at this time of the year, we opted for a 2 night...

We were first given a room in the main bldg and walked in to a horrible odor. Even my husband who NEVER complains about anything said there was no way he could stay there. When I went to the front desk the clerk did not want to move us even though the hotel was near empty. Instead, she said she...

I'm so sorry about your experience at our property, we very rarely have rooms with such bad odors as you describe, but with that being said it is the beach and lots of damp towels and bathing suits can be thrown around the rooms. I completely understand your concern about the layout of the tower rooms/restrooms, but am excited to...

A very nice hotel located in a great place on the beach. Staff are friendly and rooms are nicely appointed. The location is great, right on the beach, and close to many nearby restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. I would recommend for couples or families. I stayed just outside of the high season, so the hotel was reasonably priced.

Only spent one night here. There were cockroaches every where outside (we arrived when it was dark and didn't notice them until we went out a bit later). One got in our room, it was huge and took me ages chasing it around to catch it. The breakfast was OK although they had minimal seating in the breakfast area.

Room was nice & clean. The continental breakfast was good, nice variety. When walking to the beach, once you crested the dunes, there was a very nice view. We stayed for 2/3 nights. Enjoyed the iced citrus water in the Lobby. We were here early Sept. 2014

Very nice hotel. No amenities but close enough to stores if you want a bottle of wine. Beautiful ocean view from the deck. request a high floor 3rd or 4th because from floor 1 and 2 you cannot see the beach. Do not stay in the smaller building - make sure you are staying in the "tower". A bit overpriced...

Have stayed here three times, all visits were great. Clean rooms, nice breakfast, pleasant staff and wonderful location. Beach access is easy. Did not use the pool, but it was full of kids who appeared to be having a great time. Inside pool a big plus on stormy days. Highly recommend.

Sitting on the deck at The Shutters as I write this. A clear night, full moon, and 70 degrees. Light reflecting off the waves only makes the stay here even more pleasant. The owners of this facility takes great pride in seeing his guests have a wonderful experience here. Units are very clean, updated, and pleasingly appointed. You won't find...

We wanted to spend a week at the Outer Banks after Labor Day. We would not be able to go until Tuesday, and stay a week. We tried to rent a house, but they only rent from weekend to weekend, and we did not want to lose three days of rent. Since this was our first time going here, we...

You can see the Wright bros memorial from the motel which is right on the beach And it is only a couple blocks to capt George seafood buffet. Have a great hot tub and both indoor and outdoor pool. Room was really nice also. Easy to see why it has best rating.
