I chose this hotel because it was one of the more affordable options in the heart of the historic district:,I didn’t realize it would be one of the highlights of our vacation! From the helpful valets who made parking a breeze, to the evening entertainment and unlimited wine and cheese receptions, to the delicious breakfast in the atrium, it is all very luxurious. Throw in the amazing location and the charm and history of the old building (we didn’t have any ghost experiences but enjoyed the stories!) as well as a quiet and comfortable night of sleep, and I left feeling like this was the best hotel stay I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to return!

The attention to detail here makes for a very comfortable stay. From the rain shower with hand spray to linen sheets, fresh ground locally roasted coffee and locally made granolas for breakfast everything is perfect, fresh and clean. We enjoyed the front porch with a bottle of the wine they have available for sale on premises. The walk to the main downtown area is a block, and restaurants are easily walkable from the Inn.

The Innkeepers at Marshall House Inn have thought of everything anyone could possibly need for an intimate and luxurious stay. Beautiful linen sheets and thick sweet smelling towels. My room had everything I needed down to qtips and a hair dryer. Each room and area in this historic home has been lovingly decorated and curated with fine art, sculpture and whimsy. The view of the lovely, slow paced town of Marshall is just the cherry on top for this magical Inn. I highly recommend this quiet and beautiful place.

I am really sad that I have to give the Marshall House Inn a bad review. We were looking forward to visiting Madison county for the first time. To start, all the reviews are correct. The house is clean, well decorated, stocked with wonderful options of local foods for breakfast, and the view of the French Broad River is amazing! Marshall, NC has many great restaurant options as well! We checked in on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. John was wonderful and friendly. We got settled into our room and decided to enjoy the front porch. We brought Yahtzee and some beers down with us and enjoyed the afternoon. Around 6pm, we went upstairs to our room and got ready to go out for dinner. I turned in about 10pm but my boyfriend who has PTSD related insomnia, decided to go back downstairs to sit on the porch and call his niece. Kerstin, the female owner, came storming outside and asked him to “SHUT THE F#$K UP”. Yes, it was 11pm. Yes, we understand there are other people in the house. No, we did not know that that was your bedroom. Either way, there is a way to speak to paying customers. The next morning, he tried to make things right and apologize. Kerstin was still keeping it going from the previous night. She accused us of being “partiers” and was extremely mad that we were playing Yahtzee at 5pm in the evening. She even made the suggestion to leave and stated that she would give us all our money back. The whole time, her husband stood quietly behind her in shock at the way she was behaving. Needless to say, we never saw either one of them for the reminder of our weekend. What should have been a wonderful weekend getaway turned into what felt like a prison sentence. Would I return to Marshall House Inn? Never. Would I recommend it to someone else? Never. However, this is the place for you if you plan on sitting quietly in your room, not making any noise, and definitely do NOT get on Kerstin bad side because she can be a nasty individual.

We got priced out of Asheville and stumbled across this gem 25 minutes away. I am not a B&B guy, preferring my “own space”, but this was our favorite accommodation of our trip. Rooms are quaint but functional and although there are four rooms in the inn, it felt more like the privacy you would have in a hotel. There is a common area for do-it-yourself breakfast but we usually took our food back to our room. Hosts were friendly and communicated well prior to our visit but also were not overly “invasive”. Setting is great and we loved the friendly town of Marshall. Try Mad Co. Brewing for a reasonably priced beer and a pizza. Would whole-heartedly recommend the Inn!

We stayed in the very spacious Room 3 with great views of downtown Marshall and the French Broad River. Our splendid hosts have a historic home that combines classic character and stylish, contemporary decor. Our bed was very large and very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the homemade granola, local coffee, and self-serve snacks and beverages available anytime in the common room. It is a quick walk to several shops and restaurants. My absolute favorite place was the huge covered front porch with very comfortable furniture for lounging and reading. We would love to come back!

I cannot rave enough about The Marshall House Inn. We've never done a bed and breakfast before but I am so glad we did! Charming and so wonderfully comfortable, as if we were staying with friends who thought of everything. We stayed 3 nights and never once had a problem. The bed was like a giant pillow, so much that if it weren't for the inviting front porch, I'd have stayed in bed more than I did. Innkeepers were fabulous, as well as their Inn dog who would come visit me when I woke up early to sit on the porch. John even scheduled our whitewater rafting trip (including a schedule change) and added it to our bill. Check in and check out have never been so easy. It was a wonderful end to our belated 20th anniversary/honeymoon we never got.

This spot is right in town so shopping and dining are steps away. But the town (pop. 700) is so small and peaceful that it feels like being in the country, especially with the birds singing outside the window. Our hosts, John and Kerstin, were very helpful and accommodating, aiding us making hiking plans and finding local music. We were supposed to depart on a Thursday but our flight was cancelled. We decided to stay through the weekend because we were having such a great time.

This Inn is in a lovely renovated historic house up on a hill overlooking this quaint little town north of Asheville with views of the French Broad River and the adjacent train tracks complete with a regular freight train rolling through in the morning. The rooms are well-appointed with funky details and art and furniture made by the owners. One of the nicest Inns I have stayed at in a long time, look forward to a return visit.

My husband and I spent 2 nights in Room 4. John and Kirsten were fabulous hosts. We walked Main Street, hiked Sam's Gap on the Appalachian Trail (a 20-minute drive away ), and got take out from the Sweet Monkey. We spent a lot of time on the front porch, complete with comfy furniture and a hammock. The clawfoot tub was great after a long hike. I really appreciated the very well stocked common area with homemade granola and other snacks. I highly recommend the Marshall House Inn!
