High on charm and comfort. Loved the high ceiling and the bed was most comfortable we've ever slept in while traveling. The pottery decorations on walls were a great touch. Would definitely return. Neat diners within in easy walking distance, including Zadie's, on ground floor, run by owners of hotel.

The Old Marshall Jail is a hidden gem! The renovations that have been to the jail not only made our stay special but gave us a glimpse into local history. We were able to get snacks from Zadie’s Market on site, and we enjoyed dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The French fries may have been the best I’ve EVER had. The room provided coffee and creamer for the morning, and we stayed in the River Suite with a wonderful view right next to the deck.
I can’t say enough good things about OMJ. I’ve stayed in hotels and B&Bs all over the country and this by far is a 5-star stay!

This hotel is fascinating and wonderful. There are historic photos and artifacts from its time as a jail, with many old doors, door opening mechanisms, etc etc. The redesign and use of original materials is ingenious and gorgeous. The food and bar downstairs are top notch. Comfy and unique.

Stopped by and simply loved this place! A very unique structure to say the least. A renovated jail that is first class in every way. We love all the cool architectural elements and this place has incredible design. Custom art and pottery throughout the establishment give this place such a cool vibe. Do not miss staying here with views of the river. The food was wonderful we had the best salads, soups and meatloaf! The owner is amazing and the entire experience was great.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the end of May. Compared to the usual hotel chain, it was quite distinctive. Metal ceilings, cell doors from the old jail were used in the renovation. Details of the history of the prisoners and jail are used as pictures and narrative in brick walls. Deck access to views of the adjacent river and walking access to Marshall businesses. Check in, access codes all on line with no glitches. Did meet Josh, owner and renovation crew. Daughter lives 10 minutes away and much more convenient than prior stays in Asheville. Will try to attach foto of real current deputy "locking" us up.

It's all in the details..and in both service and style, this hotel totally rocks!
The staff was cheerful, welcoming and attentive. The room ( we reserved the Riverview Suite) was perfection! The doors, the walls, the pulls, the glass case showing the gears when you pulled a lever to open a cabinet, the size and color of everything-- just delighted our eyes and our senses.
Plus a perfect location to walk around town or lounge on the back deck and watch the river flow and the cranes hunt.
Get arrested! Stay here!!

Our stay old marshall jail hotel was an amazing experience. The hotel has a great location, nice accommodations, and presents you with an in depth history of the marshall jail. An additional benefit is the Josh Copus pottery art all over the building. They have done an incredible job of retaining some character of the jail while at the same time not making you feel like you are in jail. It is not creepy or kinky.
The bar and market were not yet open when we stayed. I am sure the place will be hopping once every venue is up and running. Highly recommended for a place to stay when visiting the Marshall/Asheville/Hot Springs area.

Emily and Josh have done a wonderful job creating an extremely functional work of art that doubles as a hotel/restaurant. Everyone there welcomed us with open arms on short notice. Every single space inside and out is a masterpiece. The use of Josh's original art and reuse of the Old Jail's pieces and parts is truly amazing. Being next to the French Broad River and just beside the train tracks, yes it came by at 4 am, is pretty darn cool. Very well thought out suites that provide a measure of privacy and options. It is very easy to recommend a stay right in the heart of historic Marshall. Get there early and stay a few days.

For my 43rd birthday I wanted to get out of town and do something special with my family and few good friends, so we booked at the Old Marshall Jail and had a blast! The place is rich with history and is set up to have a good time. Loved our hamburgers and olive plate at the restaurant downstairs! Got out on the French Broad with some kayak's, did some bike rides, hit the swimming hole, Zuma's for coffee and just hung out on the patio and let the kids run around and play. Highly recommend any (or all) of their rooms. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

My recent trip to the Old Marshall Jail was absolutely incredible. The room was so so nice and the old artifacts of the jail was really cool. I ten out of ten recommend staying here. Very outstanding.
