The Holiday Inn Express Nags Heads has an expensive resort style location without the hefty resort fees and extra charges that you get elsewhere. Yes, it's a Holiday Inn Express and yes you should get more bang for your dollar as rates are pretty expensive given the brand and next to zero amenities and services. With that perspective the hotel is good. Everything felt new or recently refreshed. The bathroom shower could be cleaner and the pillows didn't have a liner between the pillow and the pillowcase. Also be mindful that oceanfront rooms don't really have any views unless you're on the third or fourth floors. Anything lower than floor three is wholly or partially blocked by the parking lot and sand dunes. The hotel was badly designed because the parking lot not only obstructs lower level rooms, but it occupies too valuable of real estate. That should be an outdoor restaurant or bar. It's crazy that a million-dollar view oceanfront hotel doesn't have at least a bar. Why this is flagged as Holiday Inn Express is beyond me. Spend some money, renovate it and flag it as Hotel Indigo with a bar. Beyond that my complaint is for $300 I should be getting daily housekeeping. We're a year and a half into the pandemic. Folks are vaccinated. Travel is resuming.

We had a nice room on the 3rd floor with a great view of the beach. The location is great for doing things all along OBX and Roanoke. Breakfast was decent for covid times. Several types of breakfast sandwiches, cereal, danish, fruit. They supply a bag so you can grab-n-go if you want. I only have two complaints, 1) while the lobby staff were masked (and friendly), the ones cleaning the rooms usually didn't put theirs on until they saw us coming 2) the lack of lighting in the room. There were just the two lights by the bed. If you were on the couch it was kind of dark and if you were watching tv in bed, the light reflected on the screen so you could either watch with just one light or in the dark. There was plenty of space for suitcases and plug-ins. Bed was ok but we are spoiled with a Sleep Number and gel pillows so maybe I'm too picky now. Room was quiet. One request I have for all hotels is to put a magnifying mirror in the bathroom.

We had a third floor ocean-front room. Although we had an unobstructed view of the ocean, only the 4th and 5th floors had a view of the beach. The dune obstructed our view. One reason for not giving the hotel 5 stars is that a parking lot is located beneath the ocean-front rooms. With cars pulling in and out, this detracts from the experience. The hotel itself is nicely renovated with a major bathroom upgrade, nice bedding and fairly new carpeting. The lobby and breakfast staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent. We could fill up our to-go bag with the usual breakfast fare including my favorite--cinnamon rolls!

Easy to find on the beach road. Check in staff very friendly. Hotel was very covid compliant. Staff were wearing masks. Hotel very quiet. Ocean front hotel build parallel to the beach so half the rooms face the ocean and half face the street. Room was very clean. We could see the ocean from the 3rd floor but higher would be better. Bathroom smaller than normal so people with mobility issues could have a problem. Rooms had been updated with modern furniture. Indoor pool and pool deck was larger than expected. Breakfast was designed for grab and go. They had bags to carry food back to your room. Not the same selection as pre covid but there were hot sandwiches and cold cereals and milk to go or you could eat in the breakfast room if you wanted to.
