We stayed there during this weekend with a bunch of friends and we had booked for a 2 story room once we were 4 persons. The lady that was there was polite and showed us around at the beginning and then left. In total it was us and another 2 couples at the houses and noone else. It felt a...

We set out to visit this supposedly awarded facility on Christmas Eve. Once there, we had one of the worst and most dangerous stays in our life. It had been raining all day, and we had asked for a room with a fireplace. Initially, they took us to another room. Then after our complaints we got the room with the...

It is made very clear that there are no electric sockets in the houses but that you can charge phones etc. in the Reception area. It is also clear that wifi is limited only to Reception - so you need to be aware of this and if you need to be constantly in touch via wifi, don't book. Sure, the...

Everything was amazing, excellent service, clean and well decorated houses! My husband and I stayed there for two weeks..The location is gorgeous and serene whilst very convenient as you have easy access to the beach, shops and restaurants. Aspros Potamos is a very unique place, offering different and one of a kind experiences. It's eco friendly and holds the romanticism...

Very interesting 'eco' approach but very and I mean very disappointing hygiene conditions all around. The remote and isolated location on the hillside of the Pefki mountain makes it a very silent place. The lack of electricity was not a problem at all but the lack of basic wifi connection in rooms was a problem. Overall we left with the...

Aspros was meant as a bit of a surprise for the family without much explanation ahead of the stay and after realizing that there was no wi-fi in the rooms and we had to learn to light the petroleum lamps for the evening card game I was touched by quite a few silent hours from the other family members ...but...

Very unique silent place wit beautiful view, friendly pets, dogs, cats, and kitten. Very dangerous narrow path-way to reach this hotel. Rooms were very, very dirty, nasty smell. Breakfast was terrible

The place is amazing and definitely singular and charming. We were warmly welcomed, as in all places we were in Crete. We didn't get to meet Myrto, the owner, as she was away for some days, but she was nice and helpful when booking the place and she offered us a bigger house than the one we had chosen for...

Great place to stay in old stone houses using the original construction methods of olden days Crete. OK, the solar hot water and electricity (incl fridge) are sort-of necessary these days, but otherwise its candles and kerosene lamps. While, make sure you visit the driftwood sculpture gallery that's a bit further down the road.

We spent a few nights in this beautiful ancient cretan village restored and turned into this really cool resort. If you are looking for the comforts of a worldwide five star hotel this is not the place for you. The position is simply stunning, hidden in the wild gorge of Pefkoi, ten minutes driving from beautiful beaches. We got an...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Aspros Potamos is known to be the most ancient settlement in the area of Pefki. It is located in south-east Crete, a thousand meters above sea level and the coastal village Makrys Gialos. The area is famous for its natural beauty, which comprises of numerous unspoiled beaches, traditional picturesque villages, and its four magnificent gorges. It is an ideal location, since the area combines both beaches and mountains covered by lush greenery and endogenous pine, olive and citrus trees. It is thought that early Aspros Potamos was originally much larger; however, probably the constant attacks and raids from pirates forced the inhabitants to abandon the settlement. So, they sought refuge in the higher mountain ranges, where it was more safe and isolated and they used the settlement to house their life stock during the harsh winter months or they would venture down in order to maintain their vegetable gardens. The old inhabitants of Aspros Potamos are considered to be the first settlers of the mountain area of Pefki. This comes as no surprise, since the location is spectacular with densely covered mountain sides and valleys giving an intense green foliage. The valley on the south side reaches all the way up to Analipsi and the stream Aspros Potamos, which the settlement takes its name from, runs through it. ... more   less
