Marvel at the dramatic rocky headlands, sheltered bays and tall eucalyptus woodlands on Woody Island Nature Reserve- only a 20-minute ferry ride from Esperance. Rich in history, Woody Island is one of 105 islands in the Recherche Archipelago (commonly known as the Bay of Isles) and is the only island open to visitors with overnight accommodation. Woody Island lacks snakes and introduced predators, making it a haven for wildlife such as birds and lizards. Learn about the Island’s history and get close to nature during a guided bushwalk. Come stay with us on Woody Island and take advantage of everything there is to do and relax in nature. We offer both tents and safari huts for our guests, as well as a bar & kiosk with food, drinks, and fishing & snorkelling equipment for hire. Wake up to the sounds of the birds, go for a morning swim or walk, and have a coffee while watching the bay for dolphins.

We stayed on Woody island for one night and we was only only people on the island (accept Lisa the caretaker) which was lovely! So peaceful and relaxing. The tent was warm and comfortable and too! I was worried about the cood weather in August.
Really enjoyed the walks on the island. We saw lots of birds, lizards, seals, star fish, crabs. Definitely would like to go back in summer to go snorkeling and hopefully see dolphins.
Thank Charlotte W

As a family we stayed overnight at Woody Island. Very relaxing and comfortable stay. It is of course still `camping' but if you have camped before, this is still a definite step up in terms of facilities and accommodation (we stayed in Safari huts). We had lived in Esperance for 8 years before `getting around' to this, but it was so much better than I thought it would be. The island itself is so peaceful and lush and great for a bush walk. It is still very `untamed' which is a refreshing. The hosts and the facilities at the island are also fantastic. Bring your snorkeling gear as there is a great underwater trail for the adventurous. We will be back.

What a little treasure for a relaxing day trip and the over night accommodation is very well presented, we will return one day with our sleeping gear. The friendly staff showed us around , we then ventured around the island, so peaceful and great views. If you have dietary requirements, self cater.

If you’re after a top quality overnight stay without the top pricetag, then you’re in the right place.
If you’re a little wary of boats or seasickness, the ferry carves over the ocean providing a smooth trip out.. awaiting you is a private and hospitable stay with an informative and easy bushwalk then soak up the surrounds with all levels of snorkeling from beginners to experienced. No joke, there’s fish in just waist depth water..
extensive campers kitchen with fridges and gas cooktops for your use. Plenty of quality hot water too but heed to their signage.
Beds and tents were incredibly comfortable and all the staff were super friendly!
You’re coming to Esperance? You NEED to get this into your itinerary! Loved it and will definitely be back!

Wake to the sound of birds, swim in the clearest of waters and walk amongst the beautiful natural environment. Woody Island is nature's paradise and a place where you can truly relax. Camp in the safari huts - built on wooden decking and including beds and linen - and cook in the well equipped campers kitchen.
Thank Janet S
