I visited Pine Needles many years ago on a golf trip and remembered it as a nice cozy place to visit, unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Traveling on New Year's Eve I needed a place to spend one night and Pinehurst was the perfect stopping over point. After looking at the Pine Needles website, called and made a reservation for an upgraded room. Upon arrival I was directed to a Longleaf Premier Villa, but when I drove to the villa I found it to be dark, dingy, worn out, poorly furnished and grimy. I was even told at check in that this was a really desirable room, well there is no way anyone would stay there. If I had to I would have driven thru the night rather than spend a night in that room. Fortunately, the Pinehurst resort had a room at the Carolina Inn that was large, clean and well appointed at the same price. After I located the new room Pine Needles did call to offer me another room but judging from the first experience end the obvious deterioration in the Mid Pines check in area there was no way I would go back.

Although the facility had done diligence in making things clean and sanitized, this property is in strong need of an update. There are gaps between panels in the room that let light into the room. Mattress was quite worn and lumpy. No coffee available before 7 a.m., and we weren’t the only folks with early tee times who went off campus to procure same. Nicely scented shampoo, etc. wi-fi was strong and free. Check-in staff person, Michael, very welcoming and informative. If we return to the area, we’d play Pine Needles but stay elsewhere.

Terrible, roaches dead in many places, rooms and hallways, air conditioning louder than a piper cub and wouldn't cool room lower than 74 degrees. The help at the breakfast bar was terrible, no time for us and at one time even told us a 30 minute wait for an egg sandwich to go. Would not stay here again. Tried to talk to manager on duty and he had no resolve other than I will tell the owners....... The only good thing was the free par 3 we used for practice to prepare for the golf national championship my son was invited to play in.

My husband and I just stayed four nights at the resort. The accommodations are charming and rustic. We lucked out and got a room with a living room, tiny kitchen that had a coffee maker and a refrigerator. The bedroom had a comfortable king size bed and a nice, on the large size bathroom. All the furnishings are pretty old. My only complaint is that it needs a very thorough deep cleaning. The kind where you bring in a team of cleaners to scrub in the corners! A little paint would help too! The front desk folks were delightful and always ready to help.

Go for the golf. Group golf trips seemed to be a large part of their business. Understandable. Great golf and nice amenities. Staff was alert, helpful, and unfailingly polite. Well trained. Food was fine, and there are plenty of dining choices in Southern Pines, only 5 minutes away. Room overlooking the resort's separate putting green made for fun interaction with groups below. Groups used it for putting contests.
