This is the kind of hotel that feels like home as soon as you step inside. From the front desk to the bartenders to the owner—whom I had the unique pleasure of meeting—everyone was so friendly and helpful. They made me feel more than welcome, and by the end of my stay they even felt like friends. My accommodations were clean, lovely, and comfortable, from the plush king-sized bed to the claw foot tub. The hotel is located in the very heart of downtown Southern Pines, so whether you’re craving a gourmet burger from Chapman’s or an artisan crepe from Betsy’s Crepes, a coffee from Swank or a whisky from O’Donnell’s Pub, you don’t even need an Uber. Shopping, massages, and breweries are also within walking distance. And if you just want a night in, The Jefferson Inn has you covered, from the rocking chairs on the southern-style front porch to the classy bar to the courtyard where live music fills the air on weekend evenings. Being from wine country in Northern California, I’m a picky vacationer... but there’s no question I’ll be returning to the Jefferson Inn as soon as I can.

Loved this hotel from the moment we walked in. Rocking chairs on the front porch. Absolutely charming lobby. All looks like an old house. Our bathroom was huge. Super clean and the details made everything special. We could walk all over town from here.

We had a nice overnight. Right downtown so you can walk to everything. Comfy bed. Thought they did a nice job trying to offer breakfast with Covid guidelines. My only complaint, it appeared that the handcream and conditioner had been used by someone else. Smaller bars of soap would be nice. A good stay and will return. Nice staff.

Loved the Jefferson Inn from the we checked in. The lobby was beautiful with a sparkling Christmas tree, the receptionist wore a mask and was behind a partition. Felt very safe. Bed was cushy with plenty of pillows that we sunk right into (in a good way). The bathroom big and the rain shower head was awesome (regular shower head also an option in the shower). Our only complaint was that our room was HOT. In December with the window AC unit on and the thermostat set to cool the room never got below 70. A sweaty sleeping temperature. Not sure if this is a common occurrence but would make us hesitate to stay in the summer months. With that said, we’d still recommend this charming downtown southern pines. Enjoyed walking dinner and breakfast and window shopping. The location is awesome.

Thank you for your recent stay at The Jefferson Inn, and for the review you posted. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. It is, in fact, a wonderful historic property in a great location, and the staff and I feel honored to be a part of its heritage. I do apologize that the temperature in your room was warmer than desired. We do our best to ensure that room temperatures are comfortable, and rarely have complaints or get negative feedback on that. I do hope you will stay with us again when you are in the area. Thank you again for choosing The Jefferson Inn, and for your comments. Curtis Dean Owner

If you're headed to the Sandhills or want to experience the true country charm of Southern Pines, plan ahead so you can arrange accommodations right in the thick of it all. Which is to say, of course, at the historic Jefferson Inn. This hotel is charming, quaint, elegant, and cozy. And despite its age and status as an independently owned-and-operated concern, it still has all the modern (renovated) conceits. Carmen at the front desk is a pleasure, and I still haven't figured out how its luxury accommodations are so relatively inexpensive (be sure to ask for the Government rate if it applies to you!) COVID-19 has lessened the breakfast experience somewhat, but as yet hasn't impacted the live music and full bar on the back patio on Friday/Saturday nights. If you're local, you already know that this is the go-to date spot.
