Management has changed from when we were here before. Didn't return my initial call for reservations, but was able to hook up on second try. Pretty much leaves you alone. Campground is located on water (not ocean) with pretty views. There is a seawall about 6-8' high, so don't plan on dangling your toes in the water. But you can...

Very nice park to stay at while visiting the Outer Banks, we stayed on a site on the water and it was very quiet and relaxing. The park manager provided great hospitality and made us feel welcome. The location was perfect, close enough to all the attractions, but far enough to be out of the rush. The bathhouses were very...

This was our first trip with our camper to OBX. The Refuge was a nice little campground that was tucked away from the busyness of the Outerbanks. Lots of seasonal campers at this campground with only about 14 regular sites. Everything was very well kept and maintained. Sites were pretty adequate and backed right up to the pond. The only...

We spent two nights at the Refuge on Roanoke in our small motor home. Very nice campground on small lake. We enjoyed it very much and would come back again if we are traveling this way. Bathrooms were scrupulously clean and very convenient. Campground manager was friendly and helpful. Even the grounds were very nicely maintained. I read other reviews...

We stayed in our Class A Motorhome at this beautiful and secluded RV park on Roanoke Island. Minutes from Manteo, Nag's Head and Kill Devil Hills. All short term sites face a lake, so everyone has a water view. There is another section for long term RV'ers which appeared pretty much full and was also well maintained. The resort is...

We have frequented The Refuge Campground for several years now. Over the last few trips, I feel like we are always hounded over something by the office staff. The last trip we took to the campground, we felt like we were watched and hounded about everything. Everything from our outdoor approved carpet, to visitors parking at our camp space (2...

We stayed a week at this pleasant RV park campground on Roanoke Island. Sites are dirt/gravel, level, all back ins perpendicular to the campground roads but there are no obstructions so they're easy to get into and out of. The sites are not separated from each other by much space or foliage but they aren't as crammed as some places...

We have a 40 ft 5th wheel with full hookup. This is a small pleasant / quiet campground. As advertised this is mainly seasonal sites and about 15 , I think, for the RV passing through They are all back in sites No pull throughs. Most sites are back in with the lake to their back with nice views. The...

Pretty place. Lots to see and do on the island. The Refuge is okay and yes, it's pretty. But do you really want to stay where the manager is rude? And where the traffic keeps you awke at night? They don't mention in the website that trucks, cars, and nearby noises will keep you awake all night. Not really family-...

Mostly permanent spots but all are extremely well tended. Most temporary sites are right next to the p0nd. No fire pits or BBQ but we didn't need this trip. Very very clean. The pond is quite pretty. Not a lot of activities but not advertised as such.
