This was our 10th visit in 13 years and each trip has been exceptional. This year was the Woodshed which has a beautiful outdoor shower and copper soaking tub. New chef this season and the food was fantastic!!! Hiked with Charles Maynard and other guests... we took a more challenging route but I felt like I earned dinner; views all...

We are local and finally decided to try the Swag for our anniversary dinner. We arrived excited but left disappointed. It became clear to us that if you aren't staying with them and only dining then you are a second class citizen. We met the innkeeper as we walked up and talked about our anniversary. At the beginning of dinner,...

My husband and I have wanted to visit The Swag for a while, so we decided to go to celebrate our 37th anniversary. We stayed in The Cabin. Our room was wonderful and had a living room, bedroom, two bathrooms, sauna, outdoor shower, and an outdoor porch with a fireplace. We enjoyed every moment of our visit. We hiked daily...

We stayed in Matthew's Suite, which was very romantic yet rustic. Private sauna, 2-person copper soaking tub, steam-mist shower, fireplace, living room, wet bar, sitting room with skylights. Just perfect. This is an all-inclusive experience. The evening meal is a four-course gourmet event. There are numerous hiking trails, and the views are spectacular. The innkeepers, Deener and Dan are beyond...

The Swag is a bed and breakfast resort high in the mountains of North Carolina. It's about 5,000 ft up and the winding road makes it seem like 10,000. The road is not for the faint of heart. However, the view and the hospitality were awesome. Our group of 8 had called ahead and made arrangements for a lunch, which...

Good Monday morning from The Swag! Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your visit with us. We are pleased you enjoyed your lunch and hope you will come back to see us soon! We have indeed experienced colder and blustery weather these last few days! Looking forward to the 70 degree weather coming this week!...

The Swag is full of hospitality, genuineness, and the best food and accommodations NC has to offer! Deener and Dan are stewards to our Great Smoky Mountain National Park and NC is richly blessed to have the SWAG as a Select Registry Inn!

No TV's in rooms, can do lots of walking and thinking, poor cell reception and those are just some of the GREAT things about The Swag!!! Views are excellent, property borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Hiking, Butterflies, Hummingbirds and food, food and more food. An all inclusive experience with great and individual rooms. Not inexpensive and does not...

There are too many superlative words to describe The Swag to fit into this review box. Every aspect of The Swag is perfection. The hospitable proprietors, the idealistic location, the country-sophisticated cuisine - the expert and loving attention to every detail makes The Swag one of the most pleasurable places to visit - ever.

We accompanied another couple to the Swag for 3 days at Thanksgiving. Our friends had visited the Swag previously and raved about it. We had a fantastic time atop a mountain with stunning views (get up early to see the fog in the valleys with the exposed peaks above - magic). The hosts and staff were so friendly and like...

Our thanksgiving visit at The Swag was perfection. All the rooms are unique and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is delicious as is dinner. Lunch can be in a backpack or picnic basket. Hiking trails are abundant. The staff is readily available for anything you might need. The views are amazing!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Swag is an award-winning, romantic hiking hideaway now in our 35th season. On 250 acres at an elevation of 5,000 feet, The Swag shares a common border with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park an hour's drive west of Asheville in western North Carolina. The Swag's very private setting provides inspiring views, peaceful hikes, birding and relaxation. The property's main buildings were constructed of century-old hand hewn logs and from it's mountaintop front porch, guests enjoy a 50 mile panoramic mountain view to the east and south. ... more   less
