Detailed Reviews
My husband and I stayed in this cabin with 3 other couples over the weekend. I had a very positive phone conversation with the owners, Tom and Dee Howald, when I made the reservation, and the location and cabin Dungoughin itself was wonderful, as was the price. However, the cabin did not appear to have been cleaned before our arrival: dead bugs on the kitchen countertops, dirty dishes, bathroom dirty, only half the beds made, and a bit cluttered. Difficult to find linens/towels. The grand finale was when we called after the weekend to let them know we had enjoyed our time but wanted to suggest they clean better between guests. They accused us of breaking and entering and not paying, telling us they did not have a reservation for that weekend at one point, and then in the same conversation saying they were expecting us but we had cancelled. However, I received a confirmation letter In the mail with our names and dates on it, the key was in the lock waiting for us when we arrived, and the check I mailed them had been deposited weeks prior to our arrival. When my husband called again to try to clear this up, she screamed at him, interrupted him, told him at one point to "go to hell", and hung up on him. We were appalled. We will definitely not be renting a cabin from ten again.

We didn't actually get to stay here. We had verbally agreed with the owner to book for a week in April and were called back two days later by the owner saying there was a mistake and her husband had already booked the cabin that week without her knowing. This was despite the fact that her husband was present in person when they were both told what week our family wanted. We did not find this to be a professional experience.
Also, be aware that the owner's site lists the place as being "just 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway." This was not our experience when we drove out to view the rental from downtown, as it took almost twice as long. According to Mapquest, the property is 22 minutes away from the Biltmore Estate.

We recently scheduled the Dungoughin cabin for a weekend in Sept. '11. Both my wife and I talked to the owner (wife) and discussed the rental...a four bedroom with plenty of space for the 3 sleeping arrangements we needed. I sent out the rental details to our traveling companions and we sent a check for the whole stay in advance. Our traveling guests arrived before us and after self checking in as directed, a woman arrived demanding $1000 rental fee. We discovered from her that the cabin had been also booked to a group of 10 the same nights but were paying a lot more than us sue to the size of the group. The woman/manager left in charge proved incapable of dealing with the situation and was extremely difficult to communicate with. The owner was on a cruise and unreachable. Our colleagues were told to get out or she would call the sheriff. The manager would not wait the 1/2 hr. for me to arrive to try to get some understanding/closure to the situation and our traveling guests were forced to leave. We received no email or other form of confirmation which complicated the situation. The manager said she would refund our money to us the next day. When I called her she said the 10 guests never arrived and had no $$ to reimburse us. We "moved in" the second night but have had no further communication and no refund. From looking at other reviews this doesn't appear to be the first scheduling debacle...watch out....get written confirmation if you are bold enough to attempt to stay here. Very unprofessional.

Our whole family stayed there. It was great!!! Inside the cabin was decorated with antiques and even a moonshine copper still. We fed the Lamas and my brother was even spit on LOL. We were not to far from the hotspots. Great pizza in the shopping center and grocery store right around the corner. Watch the hill driveway it loaded with rocks so you need a running start. There is another entrance by the owners house which is easy to get into.
