Magnificent experience. Location is number one, smiling, genuine Sri Lankan hospitality, beautiful architecture, lovely colonial style rooms, great pool, big beach, massive footprint location including beach and multiple eateries. This is not the crisp, business style 5 star hotel it is a true destination and experience at half the price. Some rooms may need a bit of work but who...

Stayed at a top floor 'direct sea view' suite twice this time and it did not disappoint - view was fantastic, food & service excellent as usual. As per other reviews, this hotel is a mix of rooms of various character and you need to be willing to put up with minor faults (mostly relating to maintenance) & choose a...

A large colonial hotel in stunning setting on the sea edge. Our upper seafront room was large and well maintained though with somewhat dated.furnishings. The views made it a very pleasant place to wake up in and the bed was comfortable. The staff are gracious and the buffet meals extremely varied and delicious. We had one if the best during...

The Sundya lunch buffet was small. Restaurant good, lunch buffet had a lot of variety and was quite upmarket in terms of dishes and presentation. A couple of areas to improve on perhaps - They offered had only two or three varieties of meat and it was the cheapest and hardest cuts, not beef steak, not lamb chops, not pork...

I loved the Mount Lavinia Hotel. If you are not staying there you can pay a fee and access the pool and sun lounges, or you can just stop in for a drink. A beautiful view while I read my Michelle de Kretser book about Sri Lanka circa 1950s.

Mt Lavinia Hotel is like a close family member - who you love no matter what - even if it's a bit dusty and tired in some places. The hotel is located in Mt Lavinia (my favourite place in Colombo - albeit technically just outside Colombo). The location is dreamy with a history that weaves a story about a Colonial...

From the Pith Helmet of the doorman to the elegant feel of the place, this gives a real sense of Sri Lanka as it used to be. Great views overlooking the beach and towards Colombo. Very relaxing and good service too

We only stayed in this hotel for one night but found it to be very hospitable. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the room and surroundings were beautifully clean. We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening and the buffet could not have been better, the staff were a little slow showing us to a table and...

I've stayed at Mout Lavinia Hotel on a number of occasions enjoyed it thoroughly this time as well on my recent visit to Sri Lanka. The best place to dine in and around Colombo and has a good pool. The interior of the hotel and rooms are a bit run down and needs a major overhaul!

The Mount Lavinia Hotel was originally the Governor's Residence and it deliberately maintains the atmosphere of the old colonial days. We thought this was fun though it might not suit everybody. Service was unfailingly friendly and helpful. Food was very good; dinner is served buffet style in common with most large hotels in Sri Lanka. I thought the pool was...
