We booked a night stay at the hotel based on recommendations that they used to be one of the best hotels in Colombo. They are also not cheap by any means. We were disappointed at the condition of the hotel and how poorly it was kept. We stayed the night of January 30 at the hotel and wilted Christmas decorations were still there on the tables in the lobby. Interestingly one of the decorations was rotting and no one had noticed. The rooms were also very shabby with an old musty smell. The positives were that the view from the room was great, it opened to the Indian ocean and we could see the city skyline. The food was also great.
I had heard the hotel was really special, and though it wasn’t on our itinerary to stay there, we made a special point to visit it and have lunch. It is an old world, classy hotel with history. Wonderful, setting, and ambience. It would be a great place to stay and certainly was a delightful place for lunch.
Time has not been kind to the Mount Lavinia Hotel. The Staff are very friendly and helpful and then apologetic. The room was the Ocean view Suite. The one in the pictures on all websites, do not be deceived. The view from one side was delightful, the other side was like a building site. The bedding was STAINED and damp The shower area was full of mold The window blinds in the bathroom were full of mold All other window blinds were damaged and tatty The bath was old and dirty looking with ingrained stains The bathroom door was falling off The cupboard drawers were falling off The furniture was ripped and tatty The extra bed in our room which we had not requested was damaged and tatty The fridge actually made me feel sick when I opened it from the smell. There were so many flies in the room The price for this with the Xmas Eve Gala dinner was GBP790. I've never been more disappointed after travelling so far to be with family then having to find alternative accommodation. The staff were very professional and so apologetic and could not offer us a cleaner/better room as this was apparently the best they had. …
Came here with my buddies. Lovely hotel with few different restaurants for all types of people. We stayed here for 3 nights and the rooms were worth the price. The beach was also very near so we enjoyed the views.
I and my best half stayed in this place for 2 nights and it was the most amazing place we have stayed in Colombo. The secret path to the wine cellar is a must to see. The staff are so kind and the place is a few minutes away from the beach.
They monitored my health condition about 4 times a day and supply the medicine in correct time. That was a plus point for me as a covid patient. Food was OK but not best. Room condition is not worth for money. It was a old room .I saw many fungus areas in the room.Only plus point was room is facing to the sea. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Stayed in Mount lavinia Hotel from 26th November 2020 to 10th December 2020 for Quarantine. Very old hotel. Room is not well presented. Very old and not renovated. Not clean. Taste and quality of food is very poor. They serve very small quantity as room service and not enough. Even the yogurt they serve is of very poor quality. Not a standard one available in Sri Lanka. Service of the hotel is not matching to its star class. Not worth for the money at all. Only positive I saw is its minor staff is very helpful and trying their best to help guests.
When we can we travel regularly to Sri Lanka to visit family. This was our second stay in the hotel the last one being in 2017. The hotel still has a lot of offer its guests such as beautiful scenery, great restaurants offering traditional Sri Lankan food, fresh seafood and western food such as burgers & chips, the staff are pleasant and polite and there is a beautiful private beach. However the hotel is in need of refurbishment as the corridors/ hallways leading to the rooms are looking drab- walls need painting and carpets need replacing . The rooms desperately need refurbishing - new carpets , updated decor and new bathrooms. The rooms really are a let down and for us would be a reason for not returning here in the future which is a shame as we like everything else about the hotel so please update them!…
I was quarantined here for two weeks with my mom and sister. We wish to commend the staff for their tireless efforts and sacrifices they made to ensure our safety and comfort throughout our stay. They provided a great service in all aspects. We also wish to give Mr Asela from fine-dining a special shout out for readily catering to our special meal requests and cooking us delicious food that we enjoyed. It is much appreciated. However, some improvements can definitely be made with regards to the conditions of the room interior to make it look more aesthetically pleasing. For example, some of the walls were damp. Furthermore, the wifi connection was very poor and this caused us some inconvenience as we had to attend virtual seminars and lectures.
Gotta say, this place really disappoints. I got one of the new rooms facing the ocean so that's a plus but that's about it. Carpets had these orange stains, I don't know what those are but they really don't look clean. There is dust behind the toilet and water damage in the ceiling of the toilet. The nearby train basically forces me to wake up early in the morning because the rooms aren't soundproof, the A/C is loud and the room in general doesn't look great. There are far cheaper hotels providing a better service, unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to get into one of those for quarantine.
