We booked this place as a stop between East Glacier and Waterton Lakes. The town of Cardston was the largest town outside of Waterton within a 50 minute drive of the park. When we got there, the owner was friendly and gave us the key to the room.
We got the upstairs unit which included 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living area which had a couch, TV and 2 additional single beds. We were able to comfortably fit 3 adults and 3 kids. The grounds included the backyard which had a trampoline (didn't have safety net around it) and also a tree house. BEWARE - there was a hornets nest by the tree house when you climb up and my 5 year old got stung trying to climb up.
The age of the rooms, furniture and bedding was worn and could eventually use updating. Because the rooms were on the top floor, it was really warm in there. The weather during our stay was in the upper 80's outside, so it was pretty warm inside. They did have an AC unit within the main living area and an air purifier in one bedroom which cooled the room down sufficiently. Because it was so hot, the windows had to be let open. There were a few flies inside along with a pincher bug in our bed. So if that type of stuff bothers you, you should look for a hotel chain elsewhere.
So the best part of the stay was breakfast. It was a sit-down breakfast with a menu. You ordered what you wanted and the owner made it himself. The breakfast was delicious. The best part was that it was included in the price of the stay! So while the room wasn't of the highest quality, I think the value in what we paid for was excellent. The price of a room in Cardston is much cheaper than staying in the town of Waterton.
The owner shared a lot of history about the facility and the area which was very enlightening.
Parking is right next to the room.
The kitchen garbage was completely full and smelly and was there before my arrival. There are greasy finger prints everywhere! They had no extra toilet paper available and the only one was about to end. All the towels and bed liners had a awful smell, like if they were stored for years!
I went to a local market to buy some basic stuff, like soap and toilet paper, and also I've decided to clean a few things by myself to feel a little less uncomfortable: all the light switches, door knobs, the toilet, the remote controls, etc. and everything was really greasy and dirty.
My reservation was made one month ahead and it states that I supposed to have free wi-fi, air conditioning system and all the stuff you expect to have when you are charged $150/night. None of this was true.
Disgusting is the best word I can use to define this place. This place doesn't worth $150/night. A value of $50/$60 would be a honest price for the level of confort, maintenance and cleanliness I found there.
I ended up finding another hotel in town and canceled my 3 nights reservation in the following morning after the first night. I preferred to pay the charges for the late cancelation than sleep there again.
While searching earlier I found the restaurant to be pretentious and overpriced.
We stayed that night at the South Country Inn downtown which was fine considering the circumstances.
The Cobblestone is a historic site in Cardston with an interesting history. The dining room was well appointed, and the breakfast was very good, but the rooms are not up to standard. If you stay in Cardston, consider booking into another B&B or a hotel.
A wonderful host, Ivan could not have been more helpful. Excellent accomodation in our own 2 bedroomed suite
Everytning you need for a long weekend stay
