We had a wonderful week at Lucasia Ranch. The hosts Judy and Wayne are helped by their team, of Claudia and Christina. the guests are treated like part of the family, all sitting together for meals. We felt very welcome and comfortable. Our bedroom was in the new cabin which was very comfortable with an ensuite bathroom and sitting area. The views from the house and cabin are stunning. the food is excellent and we were able to get a real taste of Western Canadian ranch food prepared by Judy and Claudia. We rode for 5 days on horses which were safe and gentle. We took part in moving cattle from the various fields and you could do as little or much as you liked within your own confidence level. Christina took us out for the rides and diligently looked after everyone making sure we were all happy. I could have stayed there for months and was sad to leave.

I normally write quite long reviews but I'm struggling to know what to put. The scenery, people, horses, accommodation and food were all awesome! What more can I add?? I stayed in the Pioneer Cabin which was really cosy – I was lucky to take a late cancellation as previously the cattle drive week had been fully booked. If I were to go again, I would choose this cabin again as it was very private. The only downside was that I had to go to the ranch house for showers. There is a toilet and washbasin in the cabin so really it was no big deal not having a shower. There was also a radio (95.5 country channel is excellent – really wish we had similar in the UK), kettle, heater, fridge and jars of sweets! There were two beds – the queen bed was very comfortable. I loved lying in bed looking out towards the ranch house watching the birds in the morning. One morning I saw Lillie the dog carefully carrying a huge egg in her mouth - she'd obviously found it and was heading off somewhere quiet to enjoy it! We did the cattle drive on the Tuesday and went to a neighbour's branding on the Wednesday. Both days were excellent. I've done some cattle driving before but only on a small scale; it was great fun to actually move a feisty bunch of yearlings over quite tricky terrain. The branding was a pretty slick operation; it was a privilege to watch real cowboys do their stuff! Yes, obviously the calves suffer but the branding, castration, ear-tagging etc are done in seconds – and they trot off bewildered but not too upset and are soon reunited with their mums. The ranch breed Percherons. They have two stallions, each running with their own mares and foals and you get to see them whilst out riding. Also on the ranch are two dogs (Annie and Lillie who are really lovable and cuddly), numerous cats, geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys, a peacock and a pot-bellied pig. Don't think I've missed anything! The food was some of the best I've ever had on a ranch – home-made breads, fresh eggs etc – all beautiful cooked by Judy and Claudia. The countryside around the ranch is perfect for riding but you do have to be careful where you lope as there are lots of gopher holes in some areas. The horses are happy, well-trained, responsive and great to ride. Christina, the wrangler, is fun to ride with and looked after us well. I rode Spirit who didn't put a foot wrong all week – he did everything I asked of him – what more could you want? I saw a lot of wildlife on this trip: two bears on the cattle drive, a moose and calf on two days, a moose another day, a golden eagle and numerous coyotes and deer. I've been on 11 ranch holidays now and have never seen so much wildlife before. Thank you Wayne and Judy for sharing your lovely home with me; I was very sad to leave!

Wow!!! What an amazing, amazing six days, taking in the sights and sounds of the beautiful Albertan countryside and hospitality on horseback. Wayne, Judy, Claudia and Christina made me feel so welcome it was like being at home. The whole ranch experience was utterly amazing, from learning to rope, to trotting up and down hills rounding up cows. The horses were fantastic, mine was called Dar and he was a gentle giant. I highly recommend this for anybody,no matter what your horse riding ability. I look forward to going back.

Where to start??? Doing a cattle drive has been a bucket list check for me as long as I can remember and I can not think of a better place...... This was a gift from my husband that I will never forget for the amazing experience, horses, new friends from the local Ranchers, the amazing Alberta scenery and fellow guest but most of all from our host Wayne, Judy & Claudia. I can not explain how wonderful this trip is!!! From my accommodations, the incredible food prepared by Judy & Claudia daily, the endless efforts to feel part of their family from the moment I saw Claudia in Calgary to the moment I sadly said goodbye, the guest from around the world all having one common voice of horses (in many languages) my amazing Steed Dar, the rolling hills that truly take your breath away......This is a place you must see and experience. So, if you want to experience a wonderful family, true ranch experience with incredible accommodations then look no further. I travel extensively for a living and can honestly say there has never been a place I didn't want to leave until I went to Lucasia Ranch! I miss and think of it, all the critters and family more then they know. I plan on making sure I return to my second home again every time I travel to Alberta!

What a magnificent experience we had on Lucasia Ranch. I wanted to impress my friend who came visiting from back home in Ireland so decided to book a couple of days out on a ranch, so after an email and a phone call it was all set up to stay at Lucasia. As this was my first time to do anything like this I was not sure what to expect but when we arrived and were greeted by Judy and Claudia I knew it was going to be very easy to settle in and enjoy the hospitality and the surroundings. We stayed in the ranch house which was fantastic could not find any faults at all. The food was excellent good wholesome homely cooking. "The homemade bread was awesome." The horses were excellent easy to work with and very well trained. The sights and scenery on the trails were breath taking, What a lovely piece of countryside. We even got to herd some cattle with the boss himself Wayne. All in all it was an amazing holiday although we only had a short stay, there is a little piece of me left in Lucasia. When saying our goodbye's it was like leaving home all over again. I will definitely be visiting many more times.

A really nice Ranch in the midst of a wonderful countryside! The bedrooms are really comfortable. We stayed for two week in the homy pioneer cabin. The host and the Team were really frendly and they did everything for a perfect holiday. The food was fantastic (everything fresh cooked.. Yummy! :)! And last but not least; the horses were really good trained, perfect ride and enjoy the whole day out to see bears, moose, elks, deers, skunks and cows, cows and again cows! The bridles and Saddles were like the horses in a good condition! W'll going again to the Lucasia Ranch :)

Probably the the last time we will all holiday together. two sons aged 16 and 21 and my wife. Great food and very welcomed. Horse riding in the outback was superb and sitting on the deck at night on the rocking chairs was great. Lots of animals around especially Heidi and chuckie the dogs, cats too many to mention, ducks, chickens and horses. Wayne and Judy were perfect hosts. you are made to feel very welcome, the food was superb and the lodge was first class. This was the best family holiday we have had and you must visit them.
