We stayed at this location twice in March and both times were a very good experience. The first time was a two queen bed rand the second was a fireplace suite. What I really like about the rooms is there is a sink and counter top with dishes and dish soap and an area to set food. There is a mini fridge and microwave as well.
The fireplace suite was quite spacious, it had a seperate bedroom with two queen beds, and a large living room with a sofa bed and two chairs. There is two bathrooms in this room type with a large soaker tub. It has a large entrance area with a bench and place to put lots of stuff.
The pool area is great, my daugher enjoyed the waterslide so much. The hot tub is very enjoyable as well, and there is a steam room too. The pool is open until 10pm, it would be nice if it was open a bit later.
The hot breakfast included was excellent one day, but not good the next. It was through the week we stayed and there were different meat types each morning ( we were there 3). The first morning was so good, the eggs were so fresh and there was bacon and hashbrowns and it was just delcious. The next day was not good, the hashbrowns tasted stale and the sausage patties were not very good. The last day it was good but just not like the first day. We also noticed lots of dirty dishes both plates and cuttlerly on our last two mornings and I found that very gross. It is one thing to find one plate that maybe had something not cleaned quite right but to find so many was not good.
There is plenty of parking for both small and large vehicles.
There are restaraunts close by, Sawmill is within walking distance right beside the hotel. Starbucks is just down the street and Tim Hortons is too.
I am often in the city for my kids events and so far I have found this hotel to be the best I have stayed at. I would stay here again.
* Excellent service quality by the front desk staff: Courtni and Kayla. They showed me several rooms and allowed me to pick one before booking.
* Honored Best Western membership by providing a welcome gift
* Great hot shower
* Easy parking
* One of better Best Western in terms of room condition and service quality.
* Standard good breakfast
Negatives:
* A pillowcase smelt - unclean. Shard with Kayla, she said she would let housekeeping know, but she did not apologize, would have been great if she responded by saying, “we apologize about this and thanks for letting us know. Would you like us to bring you a new pillow?” That’s the proper way to resolve it: acknowledge with an apology, and show appreciation, and offer solutions.
* The room door does create loud bam sound when closing. - would encourage people to close slowly to reduce the bam noise, especially during late night or early morning. Could easily wake up people when they still need their sleep.
* A car alarm in the guest parking lot went on around 6:30am and did not go off for a minute. At 6:45am, a loud car drove by making very loud noise. Unfortunately, there are still inconsiderate people out there. But I would like to believe that most people are thoughtful and considerate.
Other info:
* Their incidental hold was 300% of the price you paid for the room, which is very high compared to 90% of hotels globally.
* They took your payment info twice: first time to run the credit card through for incidental, the second time is manually info your credit card info onto their system, which I felt redundancy and unnecessary because I have paid through Expedia.
* Notice hotels in Canada tend to have tall shower heads and cloth hangers, taller than hotels in the US. For short people can be a bit challenging to reach but should be OK for most people.
Uncleanliness and noisiness in its surrounding area are two main reasons why I could not provide a 5 out of 5.
1) Having only two trolleys for the entire hotel is utterly ridiculous. We came two years in a row with a large group and this is a deal breaker for us. We won't be back unless this is changed. Hunting for a trolley is absolutely ridiculous. If you had five and I had to hunt, I might be ok, but having 2 is not good business.
2) Not changing the door key card with the time change locks makes the key cards inoperable at 10:00 a.m. when check out is 11:00 a.m. This is totally unacceptable.
The staff was wonderful, but when you set them up to deal with cranky people over stupid stuff like this, you do not deserve the business of the people.
I will be calling back to the hotel desk as of Jan 30th, 2025 to see if these two major issues have been addressed.
