Our party of 4 stayed at the Mermaid during a recent trip to Ainsworth Hot Springs. It was challenging to find the place, but take heart, I will now tell you: (heading towards Kaslo) Drive past the hot spring resort, go slowly around a curve in the road; there is a driveway on your left with a very small sign for the Mermaid Lodge posted. The driveway curves sharply to the left. Once all of that was figured out, we entered our dwellings. A clean, homey upstairs of the home greeted us with its warmth, spacious bedrooms (2) and private balcony. Marsha, the hostess, had set out fresh-cut flowers and mini calendars as tokens of her appreciation, I am assuming. :) I felt as if we were staying at a friend's home! The beds were comfortable, views of the Purcells and Kootenay Lake breathtaking, and the dog... the sweet dog who greeted us when we pulled in all comprised a very welcoming environment. The only reason I didn't rate the Mermaid 5 stars was, the coffee maker. I love a strong cup of coffee in the morning, and the coffee maker was a Keurig-type with pods, not my favourite. The coffee kept dribbling out after the mug was full; a bit messy. Then when I rinsed the pod holder out I didn't see the needle inside and gouged my thumb. My advice? Stay here, and bring your own coffee maker. There is a big kettle, a French Press would work. Bon voyage!…
