We visited the resort for 4 nights in Sept/22. The weather was gorgeous! My elderly parents stayed in a water-front campsite in their RV, and my husband and I stayed in an A-frame cabin. While some parts of this very large resort are in need of some "TLC," This privately-owned operation has a multitude of things to offer its' guests. Visitors should know that the foot print of the resort is quite large, so unless you are mobile, this might not be the place, for you. A golf-cart rental would have been nice for this, as my parents weren't able to walk to our cabin, or the marina, due to the distance. We didn't check out the pool, so, can't comment on that. The marina came in handy for our boat, but this area is one that could use some TLC. Several boards on the dock should be replaced. However we made it work. Boat moorage is cheap cheap cheap. And it was nice having the boat right there, to go exploring. We did like that the resort was about a 10 minute drive to Ainsworth Hot Springs, which is definitely worth a visit. I think our biggest disappointment was the A-frame. These are quite dated, basic - almost rustic accommodation and the set-up was not ideal. kitchen, living room & dining room downstairs, the bathroom and bed are upstairs. The deck upstairs off of the bedroom was inundated with maple bugs (aka stink bugs) which was unwelcomed - especially when one slipped by you going in or out, and entered the cabin. It seems that these units might be better suited for construction workers (of which there were several - all nice guys). The 'motel' accommodation available was more central to the rest of the resort, and looked like it might have been newer, and/or in better shape. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Because the resort had a marina + cabins + campsite, it "checked all of the boxes" for us. Although, If we were to return to Kootenay Lake, we might do it differently. …
We pulled our trailer in here last summer for a couple night's stay. Sewage smell in the campground. Fish cleaning smell near the marina. We decided to eat dinner in JB's pub one day, as they boast of the halibut & chips. Terrible greasy food. French fries were burned. We understood it is basically a "watering hole" for the owner and the riff raff from the trailer park.
We booked months in advance and given a site number. About a week before leaving we called and asked if we could have an extra day and we were told we were erased from the books. They told us someone was given our site so of course we were upset. They said they would try and accommodate us. They called us back and we said that it was not fair because we had that site booked first. They called us back after talking with the owner and said we had our site back. Well we arrive and we’re told we had a different site but a better one by the lake. We were fine with it so we started our camping. About 6 days before we were to leave we called and asked if there were a few more days at the e site we were at but we instead were told that we had to leave the next day! We were stunned! We still had 5 more days booked we said! So this is what they did! They gave our site to a “member” and the site they gave us apparently didn’t have enough days for our trip! I will NEVER camp here again. I am totally disappointed and they our holidays. They didn’t care one bit about that. The only thing is they didn’t charge us for our 5 days that we had there. We are really disappointed as we have been going there now for 4 years but this was the last year.…
Really tight (I mean really tight if you have a bigger trailer or 5th wheel) spots that leave you with little room for outdoor enjoyment and not a speck of grass on the sites. Think mobile home park not RV camping.
We stumbled across this place while looking for a cabin to rent. The price was great, cabin was clean. Great for our mini random get away that we decided to take. We didn't go see the rest of the park, instead we went across the hwy to the 4x4 trails and came back hours later. The only thing I would change is how fast the hot water tank takes to heat back up, after one family member has had a shower. We will be back!
This is our first time to visit this place and we were just happy we did stay here for 2 nights. Our boys had a blast fishing and just really relax away from the city. Waking to up to the beautiful and quiet lake is very worth the long travel and money we paid. We will come back in the future!
My family and I stayed here for a night in the beginning of November. We got in a bit late, but the man in the office (I’m presuming an owner) was super sweet, gave us a few options to choose a spot from, and let us know the hours of the restaurant/bar, plus when happy hour is. We picked a spot right in front of the lake. We had hookups for our trailer, as well as a little ladder going down toward the docks/lake. There are a few permanent trailers set up there, and I can definitely see why. I can only imagine what this place is like in the summer. It’s also only about a 5-10 minute drive to the hot springs, which are so awesome. I’ve never been in one with a cave before. Our toddler loved going through it (remember to take life jackets off in the hot water! Former lifeguard here). We will definitely be coming back here in the summer for a longer stay. I really didn’t want to leave.…
This campground was so run down, staff was unfriendly. They did not warn us of a wedding taking place there, so the second night we were kept up until 2 am, thus we chose to leave early, which they would not refund us for.
When we called to make a reservation they said they would give us a particular site but when we got there they moved us to a site right by the lake. That was great. They have a couple of small beaches and one of them is pet friendly. It was a warm day but dog was only willing to go swimming once. Maybe the water was a bit chilly. Most of the sites in the resort are rented on a semi-permanent basis. People have built shelters, decks, fences and planted flowers. They do, however, have drop-in spaces throughout the area, some of them by the lake and stream. The tenting area is right on the lakeshore. Services are basic but we didn't need much for one night. The staff and even the seasonal campers were quite friendly. They don't have "streetlights" but some campers have solar-powered lights. That didn't hamper our wonderful view of the stars and the milky way during the night. They do have a dock and boat rentals but we didn't try them out. If you're looking for a short stay or even a longer stay to go boating or fishing, this is a nice quiet resort.…
The boat we rented looked like it was from WW2. After we looked past the ancient psychical appearance, trying not to judge a book by its cover, my brother in law got on the bot, started it, got 10ft out of the marina and it died on him. After he got it started he got a little further into the middle of the lake, and it died on him again. The waves were smashing the boat against the rocks, they are lucky he didn’t jump off and abandon the boat. He had to be rescued by some locals who say they rescue people who have rental bits from WoodBury Marina ALL the time. Never EVER again.
