Once a church, our log lodge is perched on a knoll on the south shore overlooking the Johnstone Strait. The beach is just steps away. Constructed entirely of cedar, the Great Room (the former worship room) of this magnificent building features vaulted 14” cedar ceilings, four conversation nooks and a dining room with ocean and mountain views. Indigenous art hangs on our walls, and books of many variations grace our library. Outside is a wrap around sundeck. The lodge is the perfect place to take in the ocean, inhale the cedar aroma and loose yourself in the serene vibe of this place. We offer wildlife trip bookings, a choice of four included hot breakfasts, and a dinner service. Wifi and parking are included.

Scott and Nina are great hosts!! Adorable, helpful and attentive. They gave us the room with an ocean view, we were able to observe the whales and orcas that might have been wandering around there. Breakfast is well served and very good. The room was comfortable and spacious. Clean and pleasant bedding. The room had a balcony and a fridge. The only negative point would be the woodlice which proliferate in the bathroom. It didn't bother me, but might bother insect phobics!

Love our two night stay at the Alert Bay Lodge, we stayed in room number 4 it had a patio attached to the room. The log cabin feel is great, staying in this converted church. The host Paula and Pablo, were very helpful and catered to all of our needs Breakfast was included and we booked one night dinner with them as well. One in our party is Gluten free and also Vegetarian but they catered to all our dietary restriction. They also store some salmon in their freezer for use that we got during our travels We would definitely stay here again with the Lodge and Paula and Pablo there.

Our family stayed at Alert Bay Lodge for three nights in late August and enjoyed a wonderful stay in a clean and comfortable room. Social distancing guidelines were in place. Scott provided us with a delicious breakfast each morning and was happy to have it ready when convenient for us (the coffee was great too!) The main room was a warm location to meet other guests, read a book by the fire and enjoy breakfast with a scenic view of the Bay. Thank you Scott!

We spent the last 3 nights at the Lodge which became our second home shortly after arrival. Our hosts, Ian and Natasha, were so welcoming and provided lots of information about Alert Bay. We spent many hours reading or visiting with other guests and our hosts in the great room where there was always a cozy fire in the wood burning stove. The views from the dining area overlooked the ocean where we spotted both Humpback and Orca whales as well as seals and otters. What a bonus! Our room was quiet with super comfortable beds. We'd rate cleanliness, meals, hosts and our overall stay as 10 out of 10. Thank you Ian and Tash for making my birthday so special.

This lovely lodge is a real treat. Comfortable, friendly and very clean. It is situated on the ocean front in a sweet neighborhood. The breakfast was consistently delicious, and the atmosphere lead to interesting conversations with the other guests. There was great care taken with Covid precautions, which I appreciated. The host was helpful with suggestions and even went out of his way to help me retrieve my lost wallet. I would highly recommend this lodge. AND don't miss the Cultural Museum, it is amazing.

The Alert Bay Lodge is within walking distance of the ferry terminal and downtown. It is rustic, cozy, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the huge deck attached to our room which looked out over the sea. Scott provides a choice of 4 breakfasts just as you like it which was really handy. Our five days were perfect to see the sights including the U'mista Cultural Center, hiking, whale watching with SeaSmoke , and relaxing on the deck or docks. I highly recommend the Alert Bay Lodge.

The rooms were spotless , Comfy and cozy. We appreciated having a fridge in the room as well. The lodge has a great room that is very welcoming and huge. The breakfast area is spacious as well. The hosts , Scott and Nina were very welcoming, comfortable and very helpful when us came to local activities . Breakfast is made to order and wonderful, especially Nina’s jam!

I was visiting with my three Czech Friends and my Balck Lab. I highly recommend this beautiful lodge not only because of its appearance but also because of its comfort and outstanding hospitality and service. Welcoming, comfortable and quiet. The dining area has beautiful views of the bay. The hosts are friendly and helpful about features of the island. The beds are extremely comfy. Breakfast was tasty and well presented. Highly recommend Alert Bay Lodge!

Rustic, charming,and wonderful. Great location, easy walk to main hub. Generous and delicious breakfasts. All the rooms are nice but we had #2, the only one with a nice soaker bath tub, which I love. Nina is a wonderful host who will keep you informed on what is going on in Alert Bay.

Yes! Two of us were gluten free and they had no problem with providing awesome meals. The GF chocolate cake was amazing! The first night we all shared a piece and the second night we all had our own piece! I would call ahead as another reader suggested just to make sure they are prepared.
There are more places to choose from in the Alert Bay area.
