Stayed here for our 4th time and we ABSOLUTELY love it! Staff is super friendly & go above and beyond in all interactions. The pub has awesome food + great views! Saw seals, sealions and whales when hiking in nearby trails. Had the modern oceanfront cabin, very comfortable and best view to wake up to. Can't wait for our next visit ❤️

The Backeddy Resort was everything we wanted in a wilderness retreat. Just an incredible location with nature all around. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and reasonable as what you would expect in a wilderness or ski mountain type resort. The location and view are outstanding. We took an evening kayak tour with Greg and were blown away. Hiking trails are nearby. Food in the pub was as good as one could expect in the city. Overall, we have a relaxing, fabulous weekend. We will definitely we are coming back soon.

We were there for a family wedding that was taking place at West Coast Wilderness Lodge next door. Most of the quests were staying at Backeddy since the Wilderness Lodge was full. On the plus side, the staff were all very pleasant and obliging, however not one of the guests had anything positive to say about their accommodation. Yes, the view is amazing, but that was the only positive. We stayed in a double inn room. The size was decent but further than that, you should have low expectations. Don’t expect anyone to help you take your luggage up the the 30 steep wooden stairs that hug the outside of the building to your second floor room. The rooms are old and depressingly shabby with chipped furniture. Dead bugs on the bed. A bath that was so slippery that in order to stand for the low pressure shower, we had to place a towel under our feet. Couldn’t leave the back window open in the extreme heat due to a strong smell of sewerage that would waft in from outside. And to end off the weekend, as we were all showering before getting ready for the wedding next door, the water pressure, that was weak at best, came to a complete stop. Many of us had a soapy 10 minute wait while a boat in the marina was filling up with water, before we could resume our shower. It’s unfortunate that we had to pay so much for such poor accommodation.

We had 3 nights here "glamping" in the domes. Magical experience to be away from the world and enjoying nature. The ocean view was incredible; forest view was a bit more secluded (cooler as shaded). Staff was outstanding- helpful to get settled and could even accomodate a mixed ocean/forest dome experience, friendly servers at the resto, and they helped us even when we locked the keys in the car! They were always smiling and friendly. This is not for someone who doesn't want some car camping experience (domes have shared marina bathrooms) or if you want A/C (the domes can be hot, but we loved the cross breeze we could get/ apparently cold in the winter- but there's a fan + heater in each one) . The relaxation there is out of this world! We loved hiking, biking, boating, and heading to the Narrows.

For context, I'm a single mother, and I live in East Vancouver. I ADORE the Backeddy Resort & Marina. I stumbled across it on a random google search as I researched a summer getaway for 2021, and blindly booked it for my first year's stay that year. Reason being, because it satisfied my criteria of: - pet friendly - within 2-3 hours distance of downtown Vancouver ( to Langdale Ferry- acknowledging the ferry as a wild card included in this estimate ) - basic accommodations that have running water/toilets/sinks in its space - reasonable rates - family friendly (and believe me - it is!) - activities / day trips available at or close to the resort - F&B outlet available for lunch and dinner options on site In 2021 the experience was the same as 2022, but for the purposes of keeping the review current, I'll address my recent visit over August long weekend, 2022. The moment I arrived on site, my son and I were greeted by name, and felt like VIPs. Rusty, Kylie, Kristin and the team at the Backeddy welcomed us as part of their family, and we wanted for nothing, over the course of our stay. It was too hot? They turned up to our cabins with fans, and umbrellas for the patios for shade. These folks know how to show "old fashioned" (need I even say that? ) "hospitality", and know how to run a Resort. Understand: the vintage cabins (where I stayed) are very basic, rustic, yet delightful. The cabins that have kitchenettes have propane-operated stoves (that take a while to power up and boil water), but what a treat to work with, instead of a bonfire! The sinks in the kitchenette are tiny but functional. But remember: there is power, running water, a microwave and a cooktop! In my cabin (# 11) I also had a hair dryer, a toaster, a kettle, a frying pan, a cutting board, plenty of cutlery, a sharp knife, a can opener, a coffee maker, plates, wine glasses, cereal bowls, a pot and a sieve. I also - for the winter- had a wood burning fireplace, a table with chairs to dine at, and two chairs to read by the fire with. My cabin had a comfortable double bed in the bedroom, a toilet and a good sized shower, with a flush toilet. The patio of cabin 11 though, was the best of all. The view was, IMO, the best of all of the cabins. This - to me, anyway - means the most high level camping you can possibly have. It's not "glamping", but rather, functional and efficient accommodations. There are also some cabins that are water facing, are more modern but don't have a kitchenette. If you want a cool, unique experience - check out their geodesic domes! There are several of those that might be a cool option for you! Check out their website to see which accommodation might work best for your situation. My 8 year old son LOVED the common green space in front of our cabins. It provided a special area for playing baseball, soccer and other activities, providing a safe and communal area to allow all of the families to connect together. From my vantage point I could keep an eye on them while they were playing! There was also a communal firepit where we roasted marshmallows one night. Such a fun memory. The resort is on the water, but there is not a sandy beach there. Make sure you bring water shoes to accommodate for the spiky bits at the various entrances to the water. If you're coming with the right expectations - it's magic. I can't say enough about this spot. We felt better when we left, than when we arrived. And that's what I was hoping for :)

We stayed at BackEddy over New Years and had a fabulous experience. Melanie and Rusty take great care of their customers. No matter what the weather threw at us, we felt safe and in good hands of these very competent managers of the resort. The view from our modern cabin was spectacular. The bed is incredibly comfortable. The pub was open most of the evenings so we enjoyed eat in and take out for our dinner. You can walk to the general store in Egmont in about 20 minutes and trailhead to Skookumchuck narrows in 30 minutes. Great hike. Thank you Melanie and Rusty for making our stay so enjoyable. We’ll be back!

We booked their Dome for a two night stay, we hit unlucky with the weather forecast as it was raining but nature surprised us with patches of dry weather to enjoy the scenery. We didn’t let the weather stop us and we explored the remoteness and nature within the area. This was the highlight of the experience. Now for down points. Luckily we came prepared for camping and camping, as I read previous reviews. And luckily I did. Dome itself: extremely unclean. The floor obviously was never cleaned. I actually had to sweep and wipe the area myself. This didn’t even help as it was just past the wipe over stage and requires a good wash. With a late check in past 3pm. Honestly there shouldn’t be an excuse. Note that the dome isn’t very warm or well insulated and not comfortable stay on cold day or night. Better off in an actually tent. So plan ahead. Curtain for privacy’s was very floppy. Domes are very close together no privacy, you would get more at provincial park. Also too close to carpark!! Which is literally behind you as you sleep! A good experience but the dome function on a cold day is what made us leave early. Price for the dome experience overvalued and have experienced glancing at high standards with same price. Facilities: dome was wquoped with lantern and water glasses. Their bathrooms were open but not kept clean. Camping Washing station or collection for water etc poor. Food and Staff at Restaurant: no breakfast or brunch options, prices high. Majority of staff unfriendly, they seemed too relaxed in a sense that there wasn’t much effort in their part of serving guests rather socialise. COVID protocols: major fail!! Quests obeyed protocols and government guidelines but staff failed. Staff unmasked repeatedly Behind their server glass, serving between tables dropping foods greeting customers unmasked. At one stage another a woman entered was greeted and a staff said she required a mask just so has it that the guest responded and said you aren’t wearing one I see and she said we are behind the glass, then the same staff left this area unmasked to our table shortly after. Whether you believe in whatever, it is staffs jobs to follow guidelines and if they are uncomfortable or for some reason unable to do so management should educate staff or encourage staff to find a job that doesn’t require them to look after the public. Its unfortunate to see such behaviour as I’m sure the operators worked hard during such trying times to remain open and to provide indoor service and in turn give back to the local commuinty by providing employment and to see staff not following guidelines, it’s like a throw back in your face.

The Backeddy provided us the perfect little getaway! Our oceanfront glamping dome made us feel like we had fallen into a postcard. The Backeddy Pub was cozy and delicious! Getting work done with the Backeddy’s picturesque and serene view made it seem like we weren’t working at all! The staff were very kind and helpful - they made sure we knew the activity options available to us in the area and were a welcome cheerful presence when we returned from our adventures! From hiking, to kayaking, to whale watching, there was plenty to do. We can’t recommend the Backeddy more and are excited to return again in warmer weather.

We came back to the Backeddy for an anniversary stay and booked the modern oceanfront cabin. The staff was welcoming, cabin was cozy and well appointed, and dinner at the pub was delicious! There are lots of gorgeous hikes around and cute towns to explore. Can't wait for our next visit- thank you Backeddy!!

To get to the back eddy, you have to drive to the end of the sunshine coast and take a right off the path to Powell River to an area you would never encounter otherwise. The location allows for a private, untouched, quiet, unassuming, perfectly natural gem on the BC coast. The view is breathtaking, the water is crystal clear, and there are beautiful hikes through old growth forest to the Skookumchuck narrows, a sight worth seeing. The Backeddy is also close enough to Ruby Lake where you can rent paddle boards and get out on to private islands on the clearest lake I've seen in BC. Literally 15ft of clear blue water warmer than a back yard pool. The suite we had was perfect with a king sized bed and a private 200sq ft deck directly overlooking the ocean. Of you are looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat, to get out in nature, romantic or not, it pays to go the extra mile!
