If you are planning on booking a summer vacation - I would caution in this location. We booked a night stay last summer (July) and it were kept awake all night by large ants! (Lots!!!) It was horrible, they were coming though the walls and all over our bed. We let the host know and they initially were very apologetic and offered a discount for the night. Indicating they would send a e transfer refund. We headed on our way only to never receive the promised refund. When we followed up they basically told us they didn’t believe us and had changed their mind on a refund. I am all about supporting local businesses, but just not this one... Do yourself a favour and find another place :)

Response from Cheyenne Ramsey, Owner at Strongwater Camping and Cabins
Responded Feb. 23, 2021
You already posted this on Google. As I responded there the guests the day before you and the day after never saw an ant. I never even met you as you stayed in your cabin the whole time while your husband hung out all day by our duck house on the wifi. Of course when you initially told me by email after you had left I was horrified but when I cleaned the cabin and found 1 ant and then called the previous guests who stayed in said cabin and also asked the next guests who saw nary an ant I had to question whether it was just your bad dream. I did offer you a discount on your next stay. In these trying times your energy attacking our business speaks volumes. I am sorry you are so angry and yet more thankful for the many wonderful and happy people who do stay with us.

My fiancé and I stayed here for 3 nights in September 2020. When we arrived Cheyenne gifted us with a bottle of wine (such a lovely surprise) and showed us newborn ducklings and various other animals roaming around. We were shown to our cabin (cabin #1 - the most private as the food truck beside us was closed)- and made us feel very welcome. We spent 3 days relaxing, enjoying the cozy, warm, PERFECT cabin, and canoeing around the beautiful lake. The bathrooms were very well maintained and we were pleasantly surprised to find a dishwashing sink with hot water available. My fiancé and I had an amazing getaway and would absolutely return.

We stayed in Cabin # 4 and it was great! A little more private than 3, 5 & 6 and a tiny patch of grass which the kids enjoyed. King bed was perfect for us 2 adults and kids 4 & 2 to sleep in together; small fan in the room helped keep it cool and the mini fridge was great for keeping our necessities cold and avoided constant ice-refills of our cooler! Animals, so many animals! Chickens, ducks, cats, dogs, a goose, a rabbit and even a big Hog - Jellybean! Kids loved the animals. - Cheyenne, Duane and Lisa were super friendly and took time to remembers everyone's name - gave our 4yr old a 6-pack of chicken eggs on our way out and were great hosts! - Use of free canoes and paddles on Waugh Lake was awesome and was super close to the bakery, entry to Skookumchuck Rapids trail entry and local mart! - Bathrooms were clean and had COVID notices for keeping you safe. - Stayed for 3 nights, which was great, visited a couple of lakes, the Marina/Pub and it was perfect, would stay again for sure! Thanks Cheyenne, Duane and Lis!

If you're used to campsites offering a little square of grass, a fire pit, and a dingy shower, you will be amazed and delighted by Strongwater, which is so much more than your regular campground. Owners Cheyenne and Dwayne are committed to animal rescue, specializing in poultry, and also to actually meeting their guests and making them into family. Many of the folks we met there have been coming for years. Cheyenne and Dwayne know everyone's names (even those staying over just one night), down to the tiniest baby. It's fun to watch the faces of newcomers as they get out of their cars - especially the kids! Where else can you camp surrounded by hens, ducks, geese, and their babies? Where else can you recycle your compost by feeding it directly into the ever ready mouth of Jellybean, the large resident pig, or wake to the sound of the rooster? Everywhere one goes in this place, kids are clustered around animals, stroking the friendly cat and rabbit, following flocks of chicks, or swinging on the tire - the best kinds of hands-on education. In terms of amenities, the showers are first rate, and there is an excellent room to wash dishes. Also a communal fridge/freezer, and even complimentary herbs and veggies from their organic garden and greenhouse. The campground is perfect for children of all ages, which included our (elderly) group. We got to water the greenhouse, chop wood, and hand feed Patti the Peeper, a two day old chick who hatched early and needed many mums to raise her. Many evenings, we were joined at our spacious firepit by Cheyenne and Dwayne, or Liza, their go to assistant. Cheyenne and Dwayne don't just offer you a place to lay your head, but a place to learn, to hang out with critters of all kinds, sing around the camp fire with people from all walks of life. Honestly, you never know what's going to happen next (a sampler of spring rolls sent by the neighbours, or a new clutch of baby ducks to dabble in your dog's water bowl). It's an immersive and communal experience/experiment that I doubt you will find anywhere else. Strongwater is just a few minutes walk from the ocean, and also the start of the trail up to the Skookumchuck Narrows - a beautiful hike with extreme kayakers to watch at the end. There are lots of fun activities close by (we saw Orca from our kayaks right off the marina) and several great spots to eat for a variety of budgets. Really - what's not to like? You won't regret a trip to this most special spot. Book early - there's a lot of repeat business......

Of the 40 reviews listed here, three are 1 star and 37 are 4 and 5 star. That's a pretty impressive record in anybody's book. The three 1 star reviews sound pretty bad until you read the owner's response. I am pretty sure, based on our experience, that Cheyenne and Dwayne would have done everything possible to make these people happy. Our situation was similar to one of them in that there was a glitch with our reservation. Cheyenne apologized and set us up in a nice non-campsite location and told us to go ahead and use the vacant cabin opposite for anything else we needed. It worked out fine and we really enjoyed our time at Strongwater. The kicker was that when we went to check out, they insisted on only charging us for one of the two nights because we didn't have a proper campsite, and on top of that they gave us a further discount because we live on the Sunshine Coast. That's excellent customer service. We were fully prepared to pay the full amount because they made sure we had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. Cheyenne and Dwayne are a super friendly, very hard working couple. Their washrooms and showers are spotless. We will definitely be back.
