Our large suite was on the second floor with a balcony that overlooked beautiful Williston Lake reservoir. The meals were beyond delicious. Barbara, one of the owners, is an incredible chef and we looked forward each evening to a drink at the bar, a delicious dinner, followed by coffee and dessert on the deck overlooking the resort. The rest of the staff were incredibly interesting to speak with, polite and attentive to our every need.
Apparently, they no longer regularly offer a lot of the activities listed on the website, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, highly recommend it and will definitely return - even if it's just for dinner.

He enjoyed stalking my female coworkers and drinking whiskey with coke. When his girlfriend saw that he's "checking out" another female, she got angry and they started fight in German (I guess they thought that nobody else in that room speaks their native language). That was very creepy.
Back to our rooms in the basement. No TVs whatsoever, no finished sealing (fabric hanging from the sealing), modem internet connection and they tell you not to surf the web - you can only check your email. Guest cannot surf the web, but those girls were using computer at the check-in desk downloading mp3s.
We couldn't sleep well because around midnight staff decided to turn on washer and dryer which was in the basement right next to our rooms. Some coins had to be in the dryer and were hitting it hard for over an hour.
Around 6am we've gathered in the leaving room to have breakfast before we hit the road. The selection was bread, butter, cheese, bologna. All five of us passed on the food and just asked for coffee. Well, it turned out that they didn't have coffee, only tea. So we cut our breakfast short and proceeded with check out. The bill for the night including food was $120 Canadian dollars. In the car we've discussed and exchanged our opinions about this lodge. We all agreed that this was like no other stay, we've compared it to the movie "The Shining" with Jack Nicholson. When I got back home I saw on my Amex statement charge for $65 with description "Gift Shop at Williston Lake Resort". Two of my coworkers were also charged $65 at the gift shop. Funny thing is that there is no gift shop. We've all paid with American Express cards so it was very easy to dispute the charges. I guess those Suisse girls are making money on side and ruining reputation of the place.
If I ever go back to that area I'd rather sleep in my car than in Williston Lodge. If you are there, stay in Sportsmen Lodge in Hudson's Hope which is 30km away and closer to civilization.
With plenty to do like horse back riding, canoeing, hiking the mountain trails, walking the beach or having a sing along by the fire( inside and out), you couldn't find a nicer place to stay.
Many thanks to Harry, Barbara, Katja and Natalie for making our stay a very pleasant one.
We'll definitely be back again soon!! Jo, Jeff and Clipper
The lodge is nicely built, a solid installation with wood throughout.
Fire not on despite being freezing outside. My biggest gripe was with the slack staff. They are all Swiss German girls, and while this might sound like an allure, they are a very rude, unchatty bunch of young females, who mope about the guest seating areas on their phones and talking German to one another. Really poor. This isn't Switzerland.
Dinner was also poor for selection; they give you one choice only. Fortunately it was delicious, but still. No choice.
WiFi doesn't work in the rooms. Rooms were unluxurious, and a bit cold. Dogs running about the place.
My granddaughter learned how to ride her bike and enjoyed flying her kite on the green grass in a sandy field between where we were parked and the lake. There were no noisy parties or noisy generators , no other children either and no play park which was fine as we were there to spend time together as a family and enjoy peace, quiet and campfire time. A little hummingbird came by to visit us often. Sign of deer, moose and bear was evident. When I ran out of water a call to the resort lodge brought me a load of water on a trailer pulled by a 4 wheeler. A very gracious owner filled my tank and chatted away. The only downside to camping there was that the wind came up fast and blew sand from the ridge all the way to the point then it re-circulated back onto us. However, the stand of trees sprouting leaves that separate each campsite which is graveled as is the road helped to reduce the fine silt sand that covered everything. The owner said that “it does not happen often”. Perhaps since it is the May long weekend the grass has not established enough to block the eroding ridge of sand dunes between the lake and the camping sites.
The lodge also offers massage of several styles, meals and a bar. We saw a group of people mounted on horses enjoying a trail ride which is also offered. May long weekend rates were very reasonable @ $29 per night for our motorhome and $15 for a tent. If you want a relaxing family weekend or a weekend for husband and wife and don’t mind sand it is the place to go. I am thinking about getting a group of overworked women friends together to go to the lodge for relaxation and massage treatments.

We did partake in horse back riding, it was nice but it is thru the bush. Just a heads up. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but it was a nice ride.
Will for sure be going back there.
