I didn’t spend any time at the ashram physically but I took Artemis and Bhairav’s Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica and was so enthralled by their teachings that followed them to Guatemala for Navaratri so I could dive deeper. I feel like I am forever changed by what they have to offer and how they hold space for every being. If that is any testament to what life is like at the ashram— then it seems like the dreamiest place to go, as everyone says it is. One day I’ll get there!

Anuttara Ashram is a place I call home. I went there for the first time in April 2021 as a volunteer and ended up staying the full season (and then the next full season) because I loved it so much. Off-grid, surrounded by nature it’s the perfect place to practice yoga & meditation or to just rest & disconnect from the busyness of life. I made so many beautiful relationships upon visiting the ashram and I consider the Anuttara community family. I really can’t recommend this place enough. If you have the chance to visit, do it! It quite literally changed my life.

Anuttara is a place that I have been coming to over the years and holds a very special place in my heart. The openness of the community and consciousness that is being cultivated creates a place that nurtures growth on many levels. It is a place where lasting relationships are formed, layers of yourself are shed, and connections with nature are re-awakened. If you have the opportunity to come to the ashram, I highly recommend you to take it as this is a rare experience hiding in the gem of the beautiful Nass Valley.

This trip changed my life. The teachers are absolutely amazing, so genuine and loving. Everything about the training was perfect, from the environment to the people. I learned so much about yoga and about myself. My lifestyle and relationships have completely changed for the better. I suggest this to anyone, this school is absolutely amazing.

The Ashram is an ideal place for one to deepen their Yoga practice and be benefited by the supportive community. The location is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and quiet and the Ashram offers very nice cabins to stay in as well. The community was very friendly, warm and kind, during my stay. Very nice devotional service in the morning with meditation. Lots of opportunities to work with your hands in the garden, the kitchen and the other laborious jobs including carpentry-type things.

I came to Anuttara Ashram for a weekend during their Vipassana Meditation Retreat. Although the course is 15 days long, I was able to come for a weekend which accommodated my work schedule. I was a bit nervous coming to the retreat as it was my first however was soon greeted at the door with open arms and a wonderful vegetarian dinner.

I stayed in the female dorm, which was clean and tidy. The main studio is a beautiful space with views of the distant mountains and kept up very well. You are free to wander the large grounds. A composting toilet and wood-heated outdoor shower remind you of how you are totally off-the-grid. In fact, my favorite part was being off-the-grid and having no internet or cell phone service. This allows you to connect to nature and sink deeper into your practice. The food was simple vegetarian and vegan food with serve-yourself beverages like tea throughout the day. You all sit together in the hall and eat which is nice. The last stretch of the road is a little rough, I did take my car but might recommend a truck for this portion.

I would highly recommend this gem to anyone wanting to partake in the many retreats they offer or even just to come as a weekend guest and re-connect to nature and yourself.

I arrived at the ashram in the middle of april, when spring was just getting started. I had never tried staying at a spiritually community before, and things like meditation and yoga was pretty foreign to me, but Thomas is a great teacher and I still enjoy the practices, that I was taught ! I ended staying up there for 6 months.

Anuttara Ashram is a awesome place, with amazing people and a landscape similar to a nature documentary.

This place and the practice's changed my life - there is dedfidently more love and joy now :)

Best regards

Mads Ravn

The 2.5 months that I spent (April - June 2016) at Anuttara as a Karma Yogi were filled with clarity, laughter, heartfelt connections, new knowledge, a supportive community and the juicy glory of moonlit, mountain-fresh strawberry beds that surrounded the cabin I stayed in. During this time, Nirav, Aarti and the rest of the community held a space for me to dive deep into a full and well-rounded practice of meditation and yoga, including karma yoga. Nirav has been a trustworthy, humble and extremely knowledgeable teacher who provided consistent support all the way through, while leaving me the space to discover my own answers. As a Karma Yogi, I was able to work in the kitchen, the gardens, on the new straw bale dining hall and on odd jobs all throughout the ashram. My thoughts and ideas were always respected and I found space for creativity in my tasks. My great friend Lev and I were given the time and supplies to experiment with making ginger beer and though we didn't brew a successful beverage, we were supported consistently through our efforts. We were also well-supported in learning new skills, like chopping wood, building with straw and lime and gardening.

The location is absolutely stunning and offers a quietness unlike any place I'd visited before. Nirav and friends have done an incredible job of creating a comfortable accommodation (running water, electricity, hot showers and outdoor baths, limited wifi, a beautiful meditation hall) that is totally off the grid! Really inspiring... and it continues to grow. As Spring arrived, we were able to forage all sorts of greens on the property, like nettles, before the gardens started to offer berries, fruits and veggies. Paths throughout the property to lookouts over the Nass, a waterfall and the river are maintained by Karma Yogis. As someone who spends plenty of time outdoors, the accommodation was more than I could've asked for.

My time at Anuttara opened a door to a new way of understanding yoga and a new way of seeing and understanding myself. I'm eternally grateful for the time of self-inquiry, for the knowledge, supports and laughter that Nirav shared and for the epic library which is stuffed full with an amazing collection of novels and spiritual texts ... and also grateful for new and unusual friendships, sing-alongs, bonfires, dance parties and weekend adventures around the Nass valley (hot springs, lava rock beds, Hyder, Alaska).

Any person has something to gain (and something to offer) from a visit to Anuttara.

Sending love to you, Nirav!! Peace.

Saints exist. Saints help you go from darkness to light if you are in need. I was in need. Or you just celebrate saintliness, which is essentially like, um, sublime humility warmth, peace and love. The folks that hold down this sacred sanctuary are this way. I was humbled and transformed. It is a home to my heart. And if you want the freshest air water and earth in the world, this is that. Combine saintliness with the extraordinarily pristine and you have something truly special and sacred. This is the real deal. love. Thank you. _Christopher Allen Neumann :)
