The motel is a short walk from the waterfront, which was ideal for our boat trip. We had a queen room in the main building - it was reasonably furnished and clean, plus we couldn’t hear any neighbours. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, they don’t do breakfast - staffing issues like so many places - but that’s not such a big issue since you do have coffee maker, fridge and microwave in your room. There is a good supermarket next door.
We were happy with our stay.

This is an older property whose restaurant has been shut down due to lack of staff. But the motel itself is clean, the beds comfortable, and the location is close to the ferry. The staff is extremely helpful with tourist information. Breakfast is not included.

Stayed here for 2 nights as we explored the far north of the Island. Theres not much choice in Port McNeill and this seems the best of a bad bunch. Imagine walking into a 1970's prison block and thats this hotel, I have never seen so many concrete blocks that hadn't been skimmed over, are there no good plasterers on the Island that could finish the job?.
Also the hotel was very noisy, we had a room over looking the front and the locals like to keep their diesel engines running for a long time at 3am and 6am in the morning! The plumbing was rather thunderous too, you know when your neighbours are having a shower!
The only saving grace was that it was spotlessly clean and on the Sunday morning we had a full cooked buffet breakfast and it was fabulous, the staff were so friendly too. We ate on saturday in the hotel restaurant (The Northern Lights) and that was amazing.
Then Sunday came, the restaurant and bar were shut and on the Monday morning breakfast was the worst continental buffet we came across.
We quickly checked out and put it down as an experience that cost us almost 200 dollars a night!!!!! ouch!
If they charged you half the price I would have given a much better review, but the price, now that was taking the mickey!

Recently stayed here with my daughter and her hockey team on a weekend road trip. Stayed one night. Room was better than expected. Nothing fancy but clean and functional. Beds were surprisingly firm and comfortable. In room microwave, coffee maker and fridge were a nice extra. 26 inch flat screen HD TV looked decent, but unfortunately did not work. Our team and parents were all put on bottom floor, which was perfect. Kids played mini hockey in hallway, parents enjoyed happy pops in rooms and the pub in the motel. Pub was pretty good with decent calamari and reasonably priced beer and cocktails. Service was friendly and accommodating. There is also a decent cold beer and wine store on site, along with a small restaurant beside the pub. Unfortunately children were not permitted in the Pub. The building is constructed of cinder blocks with no drywall in the rooms which is a little odd. Gives it the feel of perhaps a luxurious Mexican prison suite that a narco might be housed in such as El Chapo. Room rates were significantly less than the unchildfriendly motor inn across the street, which had very similar rooms. This establishment was very child friendly and likely sees a lot of hockey teams that go up for road trips. Would definitely stay here again. Only thing that kept me from giving it 4 stars was the non-functioning TV. I was not given any credit or partial refund for this inconvenience. Another bonus! This motel is about a block from the arena.

We stayed overnight at the Haida Way Motor Inn and we were impressed.
Check in was easy, and we were warmly greeted as they were expecting us.
The entire building is very clean and the rooms are quite comfortable.
It reminded me of military barracks, as the building is built of cement block. And the hallways are narrow, bathrooms are small, and furniture is sparse. But again, the place is super clean and it was exactly what we needed. We did request a quiet location and we got it; the end room on the ground floor, perfect!.
The restaurant and bar were closed the weekend we visited although they did have their free continental breakfast available. We enjoyed some fruit, yogurt and boiled eggs.
The price was right, super friendly people, an in-town location and a good fresh bed after a long day of sight-seeing...what more could you ask for?
Cheers, Paul

From the photos and too, by looking at this hotel from the street, it doesn't look like much but I was pleasantly surprised. Oh, at first as I walked down cement block style walls I thought I was going through a college dormitory and I felt certain that the room would be in keeping with that, but to my surprise the room was really quite nice. It had all the expected amenities and...really nice for me, a easily accessible power outlet cube that more than met my needs of recharging devices. In addition, its free wi-fi signal was great. Like many hotels on Vancouver Island, no AC. I thought the noise from highway and/or rain was going to be a problem with an open window, but all was OK.

I also want to mention that there's quite a nice offering for breakfast. I was staying with a group so am not sure if included or not. If I had to guess I'd say not given the sort of fare offered. Attached there is also a pretty nice restaurant for dinner. I had a very nice wild Pacific salmon entree...remarkably...one of the only places during my visit that didn't serve Atlantic farm salmon.

Last but not least, staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed there two nights as our Grizzly watching tour started early in the morning from Telegraph cove and the only hotel there had no vacancies. The staff was very friendly (they even offered us a "bear breakfast" to go since we had to leave too early for regular breakfast:-)).
Room was tidy and spaceous, beds very comfy. If you happen to be somewhere near PortmcNeill this is definitely a good place to stay.

I travel often and looked at the hideaway as my home away from home when in port mcneill. I was a tourist in need of assistance. And have never never been treated so poorly. I will not spend another cent in that
establishment. And will
encourage anyone I know to boycott it aswell.

We chose this hotel because the review for the only other one in Port McNeill was terrible. It is not often that we give a bad review but this was worth mentioning. Check in was ok, the room was clean but hot and smelled like smoke, even-though it was a non smoking room. We booked on hotwire which still was overpriced but when it came to pay there was a $15 dollar extra surcharge for having a second person - however it was a double room. The shower did not work - we needed pliers to operate the diverter and the breakfast was the worst you could imagine. The coffee was bad, the hard boiled eggs tasteless, the toast old and stale, the toaster old and slow and not doing a great job and the juices watered down and too sweet.

We stayed one night at the Haida Way before our kayak trip in Johnstone Strait. The room was simple but extremely clean and comfortable, with a mini-fridge and tv. They also have free wi-fi. (I had brought my laptop and they stored it in their safe while I was kayaking.)

The food is really great. Included with the price of lodging is a breakfast buffet with eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, oatmeal, toast, juice and coffee. The restaurant in the motel doesn’t look like anything special but the food is excellent, especially the seafood dishes.

I am not too sure on that one, I had my vehicle there. I would call the Haida-Way and ask for more details.

We had a rental car, so honestly, I don't know. Telegraph Cove was a good 20-25 min. ride. If you do find a cab, then it'll probably be an expensive ride! If I were you, I'd try renting a car. You could probably rent a car for one day for what you'd pay from Port McNeil to Telegraph Cove.
