We stayed 4 nights at the West Coast Trail Lodge in a Superior Double room. It was a great stay: the room was large, the beds were comfortable, and the mini kitchen meant that we could prepare meals as needed. Everything was clean, and there was lots of storage space to stash stuff. The location is excellent - close to lots of day hikes, but you will need to drive to the trailheads. The lodge was quiet, and is walking distance to the Renfrew Pub if you feel like grabbing a meal instead of cooking. The website does warn about the power going out, so we took battery powered lanterns that were very handy for the one day when the power was out early in the morning.

We had room #209 in the back of the lodge. This is such a modern lodge, simple, clean, and in a convenient location.

The front of the lodge has a better view of the property and highway. The back of the lodge has a view of a large rock face, sauna and axe throwing area (both currently not available for use). If you're on the 2nd floor of the lodge, note that there is no elevator, just stairs.

Covid19 safety protocols were in place, with contactless check in, multiple emails prior to arrival with full details, but call ahead if you have any specific concerns. My friend and I have food allergies, and it was good to call ahead because they let us know about the food and grocery options in the area, which are few.

Our room had the following:
2 queen beds
Kettle, cutlery & dishes for 2 people, dish soap, microwave, mini fridge & freezer, side tables
Luggage rack
1 feather pillow, 1 fill pillow
medium firm bed
TV
hairdryer
wood flooring keeps things clean
All toiletries were individually packed and brand new (kleenex, paper towel, toilet paper). We took the remaining unused portions with us, because they would've had to throw it away due to Covid precautions.

The wifi is slow, no cell reception in the area.

For any services you might need, the lodge uses an online contact form to limit contact between guests and staff. Some of our questions were answered twice, or not at all. They said it was the fastest way to get service. They have limited hours of operation, not 24/7. We stayed 3 nights and still hadn't had the garbage picked up, even though I had asked. They didn't have extra garbage bags, so good thing we had plastic grocery bags.

I would definitely recommend this lodge as an affordable place to stay. Lots of other cottages and private BnB are $200+ a night.

There's a few adirondack chairs in the front and a large grassy area to play or have a picnic.

Wild Renfrew owns quite a few different types of properties in Port Renfrew, and this is their most affordable product.

It's right near the dock, Renfrew Pub and there's a food truck across the street, Flying D's. It's 2.5 km to Botanical Beach.

Pets are allowed. No designated pet or pet free rooms though.

This is a clean, no frills hotel providing basic accommodations.
The rooms do not have views of the ocean or harbour. The rear rooms have a view of a gravel pit.
Check in was slow and the front desk person spent more time telling me how busy she was and what services were not available than focusing on the check in and being positive.
The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. The room includes a small fridge, microwave, coffee and some basic kitchen supplies for two people.
Port Renfrew has no cell service and the hotel internet is not great (2 mb down and 0.1 mb up).
The hotel fully disclosed they have frequent power outages and both days we stayed at the hotel the power was off for extended periods. This is likely due to both days having heavy snow. The hotel tries their best with a small back up generator during the day which allows for all functionality other than heat and hot water. The power outage was problematic on our departure morning as there was no running water or lights so packing up was a challenge.
All in all the hotel is adequate for an overnight stay in a beautiful area.

Thank you for your incredibly kind review. We appreciate your honesty and your understanding of some of the challenges we face operating in such a remote community. Something nice to share: Our community will soon be getting cell service and we are hoping next that our community can be outfitted for fibre optics to improve the wifi. Thank you for being so patient and we hope you enjoyed your stay!

This is not the greatest place to stay. It's in a rather remote area with limited options, so I think they get away with charging a rather high price for what isn't that great and could be much better. We stayed at the lodge, and while the room was fine, it had no closet and limited drawer space so I felt like we were constantly tripping over our bags and had to keep our suitcases on the floor, which made the room feel cramped. For a location with limited food options, it was a little absurd that there is no ice machine available. It seems obvious that people are going to be bringing food and need ice for a cooler. I fully understand the limits of Port Renfrew, and that internet service/wifi is spotty. I'm not complaining about that at all. But why provide TV that relies on internet service? It would have been much better to provide no TV at all. Instead, my kid kept being hopeful that the TV would work, and that was a giant waste of time and energy (it's constantly refreshing and trying to connect and can't at all, or you get it to work for 3 minutes before it can't connect any longer). Just bill the place as rustic and back to nature, and don't provide things that aren't going to work, going to get people's hopes up, and are a waste of space. Another reviewer said "The front desk staff seemed apathetic and less than informed. " This reviewer nailed it. When we drove in, I noticed an ice cream shop in town. I asked the person at the desk about it. She was completely dismissive of it, said it is very sporadically open and said it had been open "like 3 times this summer", not worth trying to go to, but said enthusiastically "the pub has ice cream." Ok, your establishment owns the pub and clearly she was trying to steer us there. We then found out on our own that the ice cream shop is open very consistent posted hours and we always saw people in line for ice cream when we passed it. Trying to dismiss any inquiries about any other business felt annoying and borderline dishonest. Would I stay here again? Yes, but only because it's in Port Renfrew which has such limited options. If it were in another location with other hotels and affordable places to stay I would not.

Before booking this place, do yourself a favor and read all the reviews. Had I done so, we would not have stayed here. After checking in, my wife and I tried to get a little nap in before dinner. It became obvious right away that we had made a bad choice. We could hear everything going on in every room around us and outside.
Although there is a "kitchenette" the fridge did not have a freezer which made it difficult to keep ice if you wanted some in drinks.
We had a room on the back side of motel and our view was a stone wall. Front side at least has trees to look at.
When checking in we are told not to plug in toaster and hair dryer at same time because that would blow the breaker and someone at customer service would have to reset. Not safe at all.
We left after being there less than an hour and told guest services we were leaving, we were told that we would not get a refund because we had chosen the non-refundable rate and that they would try to do better next time. Really! We didn't expect a refund but I didn't think there was a refundable rate after check-in. We paid $480 for 2 nights, which is probably $200 more than what this place is worth.
On the plus side, the room was clean when we arrived.

The rooms were fairly clean with the exception of hair in the bathroom. I asked for no house keeping for ONE day. I had NO house keeping for the rest of my stay (4days). The front desk staff seemed apathetic and less than informed. I asked if the West Caost Trail bus picks up people in front of the hotel. The African-Canadian front desk agent said she thought so while looking down at her cell phone or computer. Obviously not related to my query. Left shaking my head and no clarification on my question. With most hotels in this season the price per night was inflated. I paid close to $1,400 for my four night stay. I would book far in advance a.d at a different establishment while staying in Port Renfrew.

My boyfriend and I decided to spend a couple of days in port renfrew and chose the lodge because of its location, price, and is pet friendly. The room was very clean, covid precautions are taken very seriously, the location was excellent because it is within walking distance to Botanical Beach and all restaurants in town.

If you choose to stay here, note that there is no food available onsite and nothing to cook on. Be sure to call restaurants in the area to ensure they are open During your stay or bring food that can be easily stored in the small fridge and/or heated up in the microwave provided.

One suggestion for improvement for the room would be the bed. We stayed in a room with a double bed which wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped. Otherwise, the room is great and comes with everything you would need (glassware, dishes, etc.).

Thank you Sarah for your review. We are so pleased to hear that you, your boyfriend and your furry pal enjoyed a visit with us! Great to know you found the location excellent and that you enjoyed being in walking distance to the amenities and sights of Port Renfrew. It's a good suggestion regarding being prepared food wise when visiting Port Renfrew. Although Wild Renfrew does have two restaurants and there are a couple more in town plus a small convenience market, the services beyond these 5 places are limited. It is always wise to plan ahead when visiting Port Renfrew. Thank you as well for the kind suggestion regarding beds. We know everyone likes a different level of firmness or softness and it's hard to strike that perfect balance that everyone finds comfortable. We hope you, your partner and your pup will join us again in the future!

Room service started at 9am each morning, which was really disappointing. Waking up to workers yelling across the building and vacuuming wasn't what was expected. All hotels I've stayed at before would wait until 11 or later. The room was standard.

Well I wasn’t disappointed by the lodge because the photos were accurate and the price for the double queen with kitchenette at $119 was totally reasonable and they responded timely to any request I had for towels etc. Yes the wifi was slow, my bed tilted a little and there is no cable but the bedding was clean and comfy and we watched a couple shows on Netflix that had to stream a couple times but hey your out in wild Renfrew so it makes sense! We were super disappointed that Botanical beach was still closed but after hearing the full story of the tourists feeding the mama bear that had two cubs near by just for a photo op I actually wished the mama bear had delivered some moma bear justice! Unfortunately they may have sealed her fate due to ignorant stupidity!
You are heading into a small remote area where the streets roll up at 5 pm except the pub (9pm) and the coffee shops don’t open till 9am and they seriously lack good signage. You need to plan and read up on things or areas you want to explore! The roads to Avatar and especially lonely Doug are gravel and lots of pot holes. I drove a Kia AWD Sorrento and driving to avatar was dry and bumpy so I wasn’t sure about going the 6km further to Big lonely Doug but we decided to give it a go and I’m happy we did. I reached a point where I was really concerned about a stretch of road so we parked the truck in a little off shoot and we walked a km to lonely Doug. I probably could have made that part but I just wasn’t sure. We met some awesome folk up by the trail head who gave us a ride back to our truck in the back of their ATV! We had a great trip and so much fun exploring! #moregreentimelessscreentime!

Don't see why not if you bring your own electric skillet. There is a microwave and toaster there already. Can't recall a fan in the small kitchen though, only in the bathroom.
