I guess that the outhouses could be a little cleaner, but it's an outhouse, so what do you expect? We loved everything else about this place. I live the location, the driftwood, the view, the waves, the trees. People were friendly and mostly stuck to themselves. Our neighbors offered us more wood for our fire, which was very friendly. If you are looking for a rustic camping experience, this is the place. We plugged in our small motorhome and also had water at our site. We will return!

We showed up without reservations and were still able to get 2 side by side waterfront sites with power. They prefer you have reservations but I couldn't find their correct website. I think facebook is easier. This is not a luxury camping experience but we NEVER look for that so were thrilled to have hot water and flush toilets. We met the nicest people and enjoyed our stay more because of that. Our site was very central and we could see the end of the west coast trail and enjoyed and the whooping and hollering as the hikers finished their trek. We will be back.

This campground is deteriorating rapidly. The camp sites are dirty, because there are no fire pit containers. People just light a fire where ever they feel like, so the next person comes along and steps into black ashes and rubbish. The outhouses are absolutely disgusting. There is literally feces on the walls. They have not been cleaned in a very long time. Please be very careful taking kids into them. Take lots and lots of disinfectant wipes with you. There was no picnic table in out campsite. The sad part is that this is a stunningly beautiful landscape and a truly beautiful part of Vancouver Island. Good luck.

We stayed for 4 nights in a forest site and booked with another group, who had beach sites and stayed 5 nights. We paid more than them for our stay when normally beach sites and more nights should be more expensive?! When questioned about the pricing we never got a straight answer and was told different prices each time. As you can imagine how frustrating this would be, not to mention the outhouses are disgusting, yes out houses are not the nicest place to go but these were by far the worst ones I've ever been in. Plus the sand at the sites are mixed with ashes from the fire pits (I'm assuming they just dump out the fire rings and move them around) so you get soooo dirty, our kids were covered in soot. There is garbage throughout the whole campgrounds, not many picnic tables and sites that are stated as power have no power.
It's a real shame as the spot has so much potential, the views are beautiful but very poorly managed, dirty grounds plus rude staff that seem to pick and choose prices based on their moods.... 🤷‍♀️
Unfortunately I would not go back due to the poor staff and random pricing!?

They took our stuff and didn't care. After our first night, we drove out to do some day activities, leaving our outdoor camping mats, dog leashes, some rope, etc at our site. Our neighbors saw the cleaning truck come and took all of our stuff while we were away. When we asked at the front office, they just didn't care, and said nothing they can do about it. Disgusting.

this is a really nice spot if you want to be on the ocean with great views with a reasonalbe price. the only thing we did not like is the sites with ocean view are in the wide open like a parking lot with nothing to block the wind or sun and they are not at all private but if you are looking for the ocean view this is it. Looks like a place when you first come in that you can rustic camp but not ocean view

This campground has some fantastic sites on the water. However, they are new sites and moving a trailer around on them is difficult due to the amount of sand in the site surface. When finally situated though, these sites on the ocean are fantastic. There is no service to these newer sites, however.
On the downside, the outhouses are horrible. There is a building at the entrance with flush and showers, but wait your turn ... They are building another one more central to the campground but still the outhouses need to be replaced with new building and toilet.
It's doubtful that I will ever stay there again due to the state of facilities and the difficulty of access. The highway from Sooke to Port Renfrew is the worst paved road I have ever driven on. The access from Cowichan Lake is much, much better, but a long way throught the mountains with switchbacks and big hills over them.
The campground itself was ok.

Not your average campground and the view is amazing. Waking up on a beach near the ocean was really great. Nice swimming options and a perfect place for a campfire. Warm showers. When we stayed here there was no supervisor so we just left some money at the shower.

this is a beautiful location. the campsite is a bit rough around the edges and the rules seem fairly iffy, at best, which has its own appeal.

However, this past week there were theft nightly...theft of coolers, and contents, wallets and other items that usual campers will leave out. They come by vehicle late at night and take what they want. Some coolers were thrown in the bush and some food was just needlessly dumped out.

I will have to really think about it before returning to this beautiful place.

We stayed at the site along the river bank by the bridge. The views and wildlife were amazing but the site itself was in bad shape with garbage. I would suggest locking ALL valuables up at night, as we actually had items taken from our site as we slept. A true first for us. I most likely would not stay at this campground again because of the garbage and the idea of someone coming into our site at night.
