Came in late looking for a place to stay one night during an impromptu road trip to AK and was lucky enough to meet Serge working the front desk. He instantly took care of us and found us a room. Also, made sure we had information about local amenities and got us settled in after a long day of driving. Serge was extremely professional and made us feel welcome.

An old non-renovated motel that is good for out-of-town workers. Basic motel with comfy beds and bedding, Keurig coffee pods, fridge, close to town with friendly staff. Nice restaurant and lounge on site with lots of tasty options (no vegan tho). Parking lot is a pot hole nightmare but lots parking in front of your room. Again - a basic motel.

Room Tip: Check out the Prestige Lodge motel at the other side of town. Blue Finn sushi is fab!!!

We spent one night early june 2020, we felt very good in the room, comfortable, clean and spacious. The front exterior of the hotel is appealing to us, its design is good especially the exterior and interior of the restaurant.

Great staff, always very accommodating. But what happened to the breakfast voucher? It was a nice perk. We stayed there in October 2019 and were very disappointed to find out they got rid of it in September. Please rethink this decision. Thanks.

I stayed at this hotel, when all other hotels were full. The hotel was very accommodating and allowed me to chose a room which was quite enough. All in all it was clean, warm, quite and suitable for an overnight stay. I will happily stay at this hotel again.

Stopped for one night while on road trip. On the main road first motel you see on way south. Busy motel, helpful staff, clean adequate room with all you need. Breakfast in attached restaurant was good and filling with decent coffee. Plenty of parking space. Average clean place to stay.

We stayed before and after a trip. Upon arrival at 5pm our room was not ready which was annoying as we wanted to freshen up before dinner but opted out to go out and not wait for the room to be cleaned. Coffee maker didn't work and was told we had to fiddle with the switches. We tried, still did not work and gave up. Hotel stored our bags between our stay which was good. We did not use the pool- over powering smell turned us off. Used the free shuttle service to airport which was a local taxi that the hotel paid for. Vouchers for breakfast worked well. Used the restaurant for 2 dinners- very good. Basically room was quiet with a few noices- older building plumbing? and outside early workers departing.

The pillows are so bad, they are very lumpy, it feels like you're laying your head down onto a sack of potatoes. I don't understand how a company could allow their pillows to get so bad without having them replaced, it's ridiculous.

We usually go economy for sports trips, but this time I decided to splurge on the only hotel in Smithers with a pool and hot tub. We booked the family room so it was a little more spacious for our family of four but the room is very dated and worn. No fan in the toilet/shower makes for a muggy and undesirable “situation” with four people using these critical facilities during a sports tournament. We were comfortable for the night though. The hot tub and pool are in horrible disrepair. The hot tub surface is tinted yellow and it’s clear those jets need a cleaning. The discolouration suggests poor maintenance and an improper use of chemical treatment. The pool also has a lining over the original tile, it really needed to just be retiled. The jets and water intakes have an orange film and didn’t look very clean. The whole space is falling apart and I wouldn’t recommend booking just for this amenity. There is a community pool just across the street. This hotel offers a $10 voucher per person for a breakfast at the onsite restaurant. It was nice to start the day with a hearty meal, but I feel we more or less covered the cost with the rate we paid of $147 a night. The servers at the restaurant were efficient, friendly and the food was good. Overall, if I want a dated hotel I’ll go to others in town that are priced right. Next time I want a nicer hotel at this price I’ll be going somewhere else. The value for the dollar isn’t there with this place.

Response from AspenInnSmithers, General Manager at Aspen Inn & Suites
Responded Jun 25, 2019
Thank you for you're review Dax 1982. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy you're stay at The Aspen. I did not receive any reports about the fan until this one. Not sure if you checked with our front desk which is 24 hours ? They may have been able to move you to another room. The Aspen Inn also offers a money back guarantee if the room is not to our guests liking and is reported within a couple of hours of check in. I am happy to hear though that you did enjoy the restaurant. We do receive positive feedback about the $10 vouchers that we offer and the Riverhouse is popular with both tourists and locals. Please rest assured that the chemical balance in the pool is monitored and recorded three times daily. This is above the industry standard of 2. We have 2 staff members that monitor the pool and both are CSPO certified. The Pool only uses a pool liner, there is no tile under the liner. It has been that way since it was built. We also recently upgraded the equipment in the pump room to regulate even further. Please feel free to contact me directly at aspenmgr@telus.net if you would like to discuss further. All the best Colin Bateman General Manager
