Detailed Reviews
We just finished two separate trips to Smithers, the last week of September and 2nd week of October. On both visits we stayed at the Logpile Lodge. The Trip Advisor rating was #1 for accommodation in Smithers with some amazing reviews, so we decided that we were going to book the Lodge for both of our trips. We are so very glad that we did!
The Lodge itself is beautiful! It is a large “Log Cabin” set amongst the trees in the hills just outside of Smithers. The setting and scenery are spectacular. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable with private bathrooms and balconies to sit outside and enjoy the views.
Breakfasts (every morning) and Dinners (2x per week) are served in the dining room on the main floor of the Lodge. The breakfasts are included as part of your stay at the Lodge and are served each morning from 7am to 9am. You arrive to find a self serve table laid out serving a large bowl with a combination of yogurt, muesli, and fruit, a tiered platter with a selection of fresh fruit and individual yogurt cups, 3 containers of fresh fruit juices and a couple of different loaves of fresh warm bread. And then…the owners Barb and/or Chris ask you what you would like made for your breakfast…French Toast, Pancakes, Bacon and Eggs, Omelets, Cheese platter, etc., with fruit or vegetables…so good!! And great coffee, too! Don’t miss it! ….see restaurant reviews for the Dining Room!
As great as the Lodge is itself, are the owners Chris and Barb. What wonderful hard working people. We highly recommend the Logpile Lodge for anyone’s stay in Smithers!!

This wonderful comfortable lodge and restaurant was designed and hand built by their proprietors, Barbara and Chris Luther. If you read the other reviews you know why this is the TripAdvisor choice in Smithers and a traveller's choice winner. We stayed in the large, luxurious room on the second floor which was beautifully designed and furnished with excellent views. Based on our breakfast and our (and others) interactions with the hosts, we'd go out of our way to stay here again.
The lodge is located just outside Smithers, but is an easy drive to town. If your in the area stay here! You won't regret it.

Based on Trip Advisor Reviews, we discovered The Logpile Lodge that is owned and operated by two very special, (and talented!), people. Christoph and Barbara built the lodge from logs out of the surrounding forests of Smithers, thus the genesis of the name. Upon entering the lodge, we immediately felt its warmth and beauty. We were greeted with a big welcome and given a beverage while we sat down to relax. They offered to help carry our luggage and get us settled in our lovely room. The rooms are spacious with a subtle European ambiance enhanced by the open hand-hewn log architecture and remarkable views of the surrounding forests and/or mountains and glaciers. The entire lodge is kept meticulously clean. A comfortable “living room” for all to use is situated in the lower level complete with wood burning fireplace, library, couches and tables. The main floor dining area is also warm and comfortable with a fireplace, art, windows with beautiful views and tables arranged for open, comfortable yet private dining. Breakfast is custom prepared each morning, to order, or served buffet style, and is beyond delicious with home-made bread, mouth watering omelets, & fresh fruits. Once or twice per week, Christoph and Barbara prepare an evening meal for lodge guests and people from the surrounding area. This is not to be missed! Here’s where their talents as gourmet chefs really shine! Absolute perfection. We have some serious food allergies, and when Barbara and Christoph became aware of this, they went out of their way to insure our meals met our needs, ----- something that really was “above and beyond” our expectations. The lodge sits high atop a hill providing incredible views and plenty of solitude. All told, the Logpile Lodge is a very special place operated by a very special family and we plan to return again in the near future.

During our long trip we stayed in several more expensive and a few less expensive accommodations so I'm comparing the Logpile Lodge to other accommodations during this trip. The Logpile Lodge was OK. Personally I wouldn't call this place something amazing. We stayed in the large suite which was really big and built of huge gorgeous logs. Our big bed was comfortable and we appreciated there was not TV or telephone but since a breakfast is served at 8 it would be a good idea to at least have an alarm clock. We were disappointed there were only two hand sized towels, no other towels, not even one extra towel or at least one wash cloth. There are nice views from the outside of the lodge but a suite has none of that, just woods. Breakfast was OK but very slow since a friendly hosts likes to chat with her guests. In the morning I want to have my breakfast and be on the way to our next destination. Those famous blueberry pancakes needed to be cooked longer. I wish the website mentioned there are many random steps from a place where we parked, then down, then up, then inside down, up, then to the left and right and up again, and down, and on and on. We are hikers, don't mind walking and stairs but if you have to bring a few items from your car it becomes not the best way to start a stay at the lodge. The structures of the lodge is somehow confusing and peculiar. When you drive up there is no sign to the main entrance. We were later informed there is no main entrance. So we drove up to a small spot with a sign, no parking. We found ourselves at the rooftop level. We parked and tried to figure out whether we are at the right spot and then which door to take. Overall it is was a fine place to stay but not a place for a short overnight stay on the way from one destination to another.

We recently stayed at the Logpile Lodge and would highly recommend it. The rooms are spotless - very simple in their decor - but everything you need is there. The breakfasts are amazing - the food is so fresh and the presentation is stunning! If you have the opportunity to eat there in the evening (they offer a gorgeous buffet) do so. You will not be disappointed! The owners are gracious hosts. Can't wait to go back.

We found the Logpile Lodge to be spartan in furnishings and what furniture there was to be hard and uncomfortable. The lighting was inadequate for reading. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay. Finally, the parking is 50 to 100 meters downhill from the lodge. The parking nearer the lodge is apparently for the owners, so don't take very much luggage.

When you arrive at the Logpile you can drive up and unload your luggage within 10 meters of the maindoor. Then we ask people to park their vehicle in the parking lot which is about 70 meters away from the Lodge. The reason for this set up is that no guest will be disturbed by cars that leave early or come in late (door slamming, running motors, fumes). We can truthfully say that In 13 years of operating the Logpile Lodge we have never heard a guest comment of "spartan, hard and uncomfortable"......

A beautiful lodge in lovely surroundings, with fantastic views of the mountains all around. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with two balconies . We especially enjoyed watching the humming birds visiting the feeder. The breakfast was very good, and our hosts, Barbara and Chris were most friendly and informative. All in all, a most enjoyable stay.

Thank you for your review - I am always happy when other people enjoy the things we treasure - tranquillity, light and space:-). I have now stopped feeding the humming birds as there are so many flowers out and by mid August they will slowly get ready to go south again - and if we keep feeding them till then they might stick around longer - but that is not in their favour:-) Hope the rest of your trip went well - all the best Barbara and Christoph

If you expect a hair dryer, a TV, a phone and WiFi in your room, Logpile Lodge is probably not for you. But if you want to spend a night or two in a beautifully built and maintained log house, in a large comfortable room with a balcony looking out on an open forest landscape, with aspens shimmering in the breeze, and enjoy an excellent breakfast prepared by your host Chris, then you will love Logpile Lodge. Chris and Barbara have created a very special place, nestled in the Agricultural Land Reserve about 10 minutes out of Smithers. Check and see if they will be serving dinner when you are there. We weren’t so lucky, but having experienced their breakfast, I am sure dinner at the Lodge would be far superior to anything available elsewhere in Smithers.

Thank you for your review. I know the evening meals at the lodge would be nice to have - but we would have to clone ourselves:-). In July and August our staff who helps us in the evenings is on vacation as well with their kids and relatives - and so rather than scramble like crazy and working 17 hour days we opted for just doing the Bed with Breakfast - and let the restaurants in town have some more business in the evening:-). As it is only a 10 min. drive and light until 10 pm we hope our guests are not too upset, when they have to drive back into town for dinner. Thank you for understanding! Enjoy the rest of this incredible summer!! Barbara and Christoph

We stayed at Logpile Lodge both en route to Haida Gwaii and on our return. Barbara and Christoph should be instructors as to how to run a lodge/B+B! The building and location are stunning; the rooms are spotless; and the breakfasts, made to order, are more than 10/10! On our return, we were able to book dinner at the Lodge and it was so incredibly excellent! Should we travel to the great town of Smithers again, without hesitation we would plan to stay at Logpile Lodge!

This was our second stay at the Logpile, and again everything was perfect. Beautiful setting, unique loghome building, the friendliest hosts, delicious breakfast... Our room was huge, with a private balcony and a spacious bath, the perfect place to relax and unwind. Thank you so much for having us, it was great!

Hi Sue - I am sorry I didn't see your question before! If you give me a ring the night before I can tell you if we are open for breakfast - if we have overnight guests then it is usually no problem:-) 250 847 5152. Thanks!!
