Detailed Reviews
We spent four nights at Haida House. The resort is well-run with very friendly and accommodating staff (Thanks, Kathy and crew!). Take note that this is Haida Gwaii and supply chains to this part of the world mean things are not cheap, especially hotels. The rooms are comfortable but could use some updating, especially the bathrooms and room furniture. The large new cabins look fabulous, although we did not stay in them (only two of us and somewhat price-prohibitive). Note, there are almost no ocean views but there are nice river views from the lodge, not the cabins.

Originally an old bear hunting lodge from the 1970"s and has been modernized, although the bathrooms let you know the era it was built, very small. Main dining area and check in look like an add on and is stunning with the wood work, totems and masks. Breakfast was included with our BC ferries package, no sauna, pool, or games room available. If you are shy of spiders, webs and living in a tree line - caution.
Staff were friendly and tried to help out.
We stayed in the lodge part but there are 12 cabins available with ocean view. Access to a very long sandy beach is not well marked from the lodge, a short road walk gives you a better access. Huge glorious beach front, you can literally walk for 2 hours out (and then 2 hours back) and not run out of beach.
No lodge maps available and no restaurants close by, you have to drive into Skidegate or Port Clements. There is a lovely restaurant at the lodge, very pricey and very limited menu for dinner only. Breakfast was included and it was not open for lunch. So we ate while out and about exploring.
Beds were comfortable, rooms was hot, got a screen put in the window so we could leave the window open at night without fear of something crawling in. There was a portable fan in the room but it was not enough for us. Showers are small so if you are large you would have trouble.

The cottages are well appointed with a fridge and a microwave. The views of the ocean are okay, but reflects the privacy that each cottage has. The private hot tub was a highlight, including the outdoor shower near the hot tub.

A first visit to Haida Gwaii and we booked a four night package at Haida House. This included shuttles to and from Masset airport.
The hotel is in a lovely location on a spit of land with the Tlell river to the front and the sea to the rear. Very, very quiet.
We were in a cabin all of which face the sea and are accessed by a wooden boardwalk. The views are limited by a high sand dune but the beach is mere steps away. The cabins are very large and simply furnished with comfortable beds and a large sofa. There is a simple catering space which we didn't use. Storage for clothes was limited so we used the bed in the second bedroom which worked fine. All have a private hot tub on their deck.
Great shower and plenty of towels.
The restaurant is in the main house. Breakfast and dinner is honest and generous served by lovely staff and we enjoyed talking with fellow guests about our day's adventures.
The lodge is a former bear hunting lodge, thankfully in the past, and is now owned by the Haida nation. Credit to them for running an excellent lodge and showing the island at its best.
The package included opportunities to engage in learning about the Haida culture with unparalleled access to the carving houses and local creators. We learned a lot as a consequence.
All the guides were excellent and the management do an excellent job of delivering the best experience for their guests in an area which is not mainstream tourism.
Highly recommended.

A most fabulous experience! The 7-day all-inclusive trip was truly outstanding. Everyone (Kathy, Phred, Marni, kitchen & dining room staff) was thoughtful, welcoming and knowledgeable. The chef accommodated my vegan diet for all meals including excursion lunches. Circumstances allowed for solo excursions with the Haida guide and naturalist, which allowed for bespoke activities. This personal retreat exceeded my expectations: solitude, food, accommodations, Haida culture & art and of course the soulful environment.

We found the room rather small, the toilet/combination was only slightly bigger than what you will find on a cruise ship. The sink and counter were part of the room and there was little space to hang clothes. That said the room had everything we needed including a fridge, microwave, a coffee maker, and the beds were comfortable. The location and ambiance of the hotel made up for the room size. Haida House is located in a beautiful location along the river. The area is peaceful and quiet well centered on Grahan Island. We were happy we chose to spend 3 of our 6 nights on Haida Gwaii there. The breakfasts were excellent with lots of choices. The hotel has an excellent restaurant and we were disappointed that it was not open on 2 of the nights of our stay. The staff at the hotel were lovely. However this seems to be the norm in Haida Gwaii, many restaurants seem to be only open on selected days. If like us you find there is nothing nearby open on a night you can always pick up something to eat in your room at the the CoOp grocery store. Just remember, grocery stores seem to close at 6 pm on the island. Nearby Haida House you will find the trail to the shipwreck, an interesting scenic trail along the river and beach. Port Clements is only a 20-minute drive and the Axe and Anchor is a dinner option if they are open. They were only open Wednesday-Sunday during our visit.

I booked a 4-day tour package with Haida House, and by the end, I wish I had booked a 7-day! The cabin was spacious, spotless, and a wonderful retreat where I could see the sunrise over the beach every morning. It was great to have all the tours booked through Haida House, and I lucked out a bit ending up with private tours after another group cancelled due to illness. My tours around the island were with Marni who was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide and I enjoyed the many hours we spent together. Last but certainly not least, all the food was EXCELLENT. I would call it gourmet quality, and I looked forward to every breakfast and dinner. Thank you, Marni, Kathy, and all the staff at Haida House for making me feel very welcome and for a memorable solo trip to a remote corner of the world! I hope I find my way back some day.

We had a pleasant stay in the lodge for 3 nights. The location is exceptional at the end of the road along the Tlell estuary; river on one side, beach on the other. The large grounds are a nice bonus. From this central location you can get easily to locations around Graham Island.
The room was good but not exceptional. The beds were only made up once during our stay. After we booked we tried to get in touch with some questions but all emails and phone messages went unanswered; that could be improved. The grounds around the lodge could use a spring clean up.
The lodge and restaurant staff - all Indigenous - were very courteous and knowledgeable on things to do and see. What they may lack in big resort details and professionalism, they make us with charm, comfort and local character. The resto food was very good, though breakfast was a little inconsistent.
The long walk along the estuary and then back along the beach was sublime: get the Merlin bird app to id all those bird songs! Would love to stay in the Haida-style cedar beach cottages but bit out of my price!

Visiting Haida Gwaii with Haida House was a special experience.
Kath James and each of the staff, guides extended a warm welcome to Haida Gwaii, and are doing everything possible to realize this wonderful Haida run business enterprise.
The setting of the lodge, on the banks of the Tlell River is beautiful. I appreciated that the feel of the lodge was more relaxed than the perfection pictured on the website. I was fortunate to stay in one of the peaceful crafted cottages adjacent to East Beach for a 7-night stay. The quietness of the setting was restorative. Breakfast and dinners in the lodge dining room were enjoyable and the food is wonderful.
The inclusive tour package and communications were impacted, understandably, by challenges related to covid recovery, staffing and weather. For me, it made for a somewhat inconsistent experience, with too much bus and wait times.
Still, I admire all that Kath and the staff did to roll out tour days in the face of changes. High points included visits to the totem carvers in Skidgate, our guide Marni, the special old cedar forest walk with Dale that haunts me, the lecture walk with Phred, and the zodiac trip to the ancient village site of Skedans on Louise Island, with the watchman led guide of the site.
When initially looking at options for visiting Haida Gwaii, with a desire to also visit Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and SGang Gwaay, Haida House included a float plane trip to SGang Gwaay. For me, this inclusion, supported the high cost of the package.
In retrospect I would consider making advance alternative plans for Gwaii Haanas and add-on a B’B option stay at Haida House or elect a shorter inclusive package with extra B’B nights.
Thank you, everyone, at Haida House.

What a beautiful establishment. All of the amenities are top quality. We stayed in Cabin 6 and enjoyed the hot tub every day while we watched Bald Eagles over the beach.
You will need a car to get here and access all the trails nearby. This is a fantastic location for travelling around the island.
The staff are so welcoming and do all they can to make this an enjoyable stay.
My family enjoyed the time we were able to spend together in the cabin's large living room and outside porch.
So much more intimate than hotel rooms.
thanks so much to the Haida House!
