Located on Hwy 254 about 5 miles from the Trans-Canada, with the exception of about 6 sites this is entirely a seasonal resort. However, almost all are fairly new, well maintained and the sites well kept.

The majority of the sites are in the forest, with plenty shade from the tall trees. All sites are back-in and they only have 30 amps. No 50 amp sites available. We requested a view of the satellites, so were assigned on of the 6 group sites in the meadow. As we were the only coach in this area, it was effectively a pull-through, although they had ample space to back in a big rig. Due to the trees, we could not get into many of the seasonal sites.

Roads are gravel and are reasonably well maintained with minimal potholes. Services were good and the free wi-fi worked well, however the campground was almost empty.

By mid-September the pool was already closed, the adjacent shop was closed and the office was only open 5 days a week. The playground is minimal, although they have a great park next door.

This place is under new ownership, and has completely turned around from previous years. There are all new buildings and it is kept much cleaner. There is great food, full camping facilities, and the lake was great all last year. Also, opening next fall is a great looking 18 hole golf course designed by Les Furber (one of Canada's best golf course architecs). I highly recommend visiting this campground and maybe hitting the links once the course is open. I have been informed that it will be opening around next May long weekend.

Our son and family took their travel trailer and my husband and I rented cabin # 10. We spent our first day at Fair Oaks Farm and two days at the campground. We loved the swimming lake. It is very clean, for a lake, and the water inflatables were so much fun -even for grandpa! The whole campground is very clean and wooded. The cabin was cute and clean with a double bed, kitchenette, bathroom and loft with a mattress. The futon also made into a double bed so one night all three grandchildren were able to bunk with us. If you are looking for a hotel experience, then go to the nearest Hilton. You need to provide your own bedding and towels for the cabin. But, it was the cutest cabin we've ever stayed in to date (and we have stayed in many!). I would have rated a five but I feel the rates were too high. We have stayed in cabins which include linens, maid service and breakfast for less. Also, some of the staff were a bit unfriendly. Other than that, I would definitely revisit.

This was our second and last camping/golfing trip to Oak Island. Again the golfing was great; # 1. The camping, however, was spoiled for us and so we don't think we'll be going back. Because of all the beautiful oak trees there is no grass in the campground so when it rains, it's very muddy, making it impossible to keep a trailer and white dog clean. We ended up driving the dog to the park where the grassy areas were so that he could get some exercise without getting filthy. We were treated well but we had really noisy neighbours this time who seemed to think that they were the entertainment for the area. Too bad they weren't as funny as they thought they were, especially by midnight.

My wife and I camped at Oak Lake Island Resort for five days. The flies drove us out. Garbage appears to be 'stored' near the south end of the campground in big blue dumpsters and a few outdoor toilets may be still in use. The last morning we awoke to the sound of cows mooing. I guess the whole campground used to be a cow pasture. My wife's youngest sister arrived during mid-week (we had previously registered her when we arrived) and the 'owner' told us on Thursday that we would be charged extra for an additional tent on our campsite. We took her tent down and packed up to leave early Friday morning.Would we return? Not likely in this century.Oak trees, monarch butterflies, and chicken burgers were great though.

Just visited here with my husband and infant daughter for May Long weekend. Came with two other families and their children.
The campground is quite nice, unfortunately the rules they claim to have are not enforced AT ALL. We were placed right by three different sites with several tents on them-rented by teenagers, even though I thought it was a trailer section.
The first night the kids partied and pounded music until literally 6 am, and screamed and yelled down all the roads in front of our trailers.
Nothing was done to stop them and the next day from what I saw they were only given a warning.
Second night same thing.
Still there, still yelling and screaming until morning.
Third night worst of all. At least 100 teenagers wandering around with booze, yelling, fighting and partying with no concern for anyone staying there trying to sleep, especially those with small children.
Apparently security does exist, I didn't see it, and it is entirely insufficient if it does.
The cops finally came and did a few passes through but noise picked up again after they left.
I have never been to a louder, more chaotic, and non family friendly place.
I can't blame kids for partying, I blame the owners and staff who's job it is to ensure paying customers, who are their guests can enjoy their stay, feel safe and get more than two hours of sleep.
Members from our group had items stolen from outside their campers, so if you do stay lock everything up at night.
So disappointed. And tired.
Hope they step up security, enforce some rules and reconsider who they rent sites to.
Needless to say we will never be back.
On a lighter note, awesome golf course!

With over 400 camp sites, Oak Lake Resort, in the Virden Manitoba area, is one of the best managed campgrounds we have had the pleasure to stay at. Even with the large number of sites, it is a very quiet campground with plenty of trees surrounding the individual sites. Deer can sometimes be observed wandering through the sites.

The maintenance crews ensure that all the sites are fully functional i.e. water, sewer, electricity hook-ups.

There are a lot of amenities for the family to enjoy such as 2 heated pools, plash pad, mini-putt, top notch children's playground, snack bar and convenience store. The golf course is only a short distance from the campsites.

I would definitely recommend this campground to anyone travelling in this area. Most of the campsites are seasonal so a reservation is recommended.

My husband, son, grandson and I camped here this summer a number of times. We loved it. Campground is well maintained and full service for camping trailers. People working there were always very friendly and helpful. Many conveniences available: swimming pools, mini golf, large grassy area for playing with playground, wood, near beach and park areas, convenient store and snack/ice cream shop, washrooms and showers, rental cabins, golf course nearby, fishing and marina. Lots &lots of oak trees for shade. Very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Planning on looking into getting a seasonal pass next year.

We rented a park model for 3 nights in August. It had 1 bedroom and a pull out couch which worked well for our family. It was nice to have a full kitchen to cook meals in as well as a fire pit outside to roast marshmallows. The trailer was clean and well stocked with dishes and supplies.

There were a few downsides - the weather was terrible and the lake has an algae bloom which meant you couldn't swim in it, which is not the resort's fault at all. It did make the camping less fun. The resorts pools were down for maintenance which was also a bummer.

They have mini golf, a pool (when it works), laundry, and a fun ice cream place. The staff is friendly and helpful and the corner store is well stocked and reasonably priced. There are lots of camp sites that seem to be lived in all summer but it is very quiet and respectful. There seems to be people who commute from the resort to work because at about 5:30am there is a mad rush of trucks roaring down the road which continues until about 6:30am.
