This resort is situated in a beautiful setting, surrounded by water, walking trails and a fabulous golf course.
The rooms are spacious, including good sized bathrooms. My partner and I found the carpet in our room to be coffee stained and generally unclean. Other carpeting in the public areas needs to be replaced.
The setting is lovely but the grounds badly need tending. Weeds proliferate in what should be lovely flower beds; trees and shrubs are overgrown blocking the front entrance to the hotel. The front entrance is dimly lit at night and generally lacks the impact it deserves. The resort is in need of someone to restore the grounds to make the hotel a little more resort-like. Currently, the unkempt gardens and outdoor areas detract from the charm.
The spa is nice although the treatments are expensive for what you actually get.
Some greenery around the outdoor portion of the mineral pool would make the area more attractive and inviting.
The food is good and the service wasn’t too bad during regular meal hours. However, there were times in the bar area when it was difficult to be served as there were employees milling around but they didn’t seem to know who should be taking orders or mixing drinks. Perhaps a little better supervision would help.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. It would be nice to see all the front desk staff dressed a little more professionally. At times it seemed like the people working had been called in at the last minute and they didn’t take time to change.
It is a favourite place of ours and knowing how much wedding business they have, I am sure they could do more to make the surroundings a little more cared for, a little “crisper” and prettier for wedding or holiday photos.

Buffet was delicious. Banquet room was beautiful. We spent a lot of money so it was disappointing that they charged one of our guests $25 to use the cross country skis when other years it was assumed to be included in our rental & there was no charge. When brought to their attention they shrugged it off as too bad, next year put it in the contract. If there is a next year. It is only $25 but it is the attitude and lack of customer care and lack of professionalism that bites. This makes the experience average when it could have been above average.

We snowmobiled to the resort for a weekend getaway. The check-in staff were super pleasant and provided a speedy check-in. The rooms are great, look recently renovated and clean. The restaurant needs to be staffed up during weekends. The restaurant though has very slow service 20 minutes to get a bar drink and one hour to get our meals. The waiter suggested we bring our own.

We came here to stay for a mini honeymoon as we had had a very small covid wedding. It was $180 a night to stay in a tiny room with a new bed that was like sleeping on plywood. On top of that our neighbours did not turn it down until I poked my head out at 4:45 in the morning and asked them if they didn't mind going into their room as we hadn't gotten any sleep. These rooms are motel style so they all share the same large deck. When we went into the store in the morning they asked how our stay was and we had told them it was awful due to these reasons. It started by them saying they could not do refunds to them saying they would refund the extra night we didn't stay and only on credit even though we paid cash for the room. This was all very disappointing as we would have liked to put those funds back where they came from and honestly been refunded even a portion of our stay from the previous night. I also work in hospitality and don't like to complain but this was a terrible experience. Way overpriced for what you get and although the staff were all very friendly we were very unsatisfied with the end result.

Margarita’s were delightful! We were a party of 13 and everyone’s food was delicious. Topped off with excellent friendly service! Such a beautiful setting during all four seasons! The new management has made many wonderful improvements.

It appears they got rid of the horrible woman at the front desk. Or was she off while I was there? All staff at the front desk were great this time. Restaurant room cleaning staff were also great. Food was awesome as usual. Go for the steak, pickerel or the Street Wok. One thing to watch for when booking online is that they don't tell you about the $15 per night pet fee. I didn't have to pay it 2 years ago but they said it has always been in place. So with the $10 per night for the pet friendly room and the additional $15 you are paying $25 per night extra just to bring the family pet. Weird how some hotels have no extra fees at all for pets and some do. When booking in places where there is more than one hotel to choose from I will always go for the place where pets stay for free.

Spent 3 days and 2 nights only to receive terrible service and cold food. Our room was never made up, we smelt sewage in our room the entire time. Couldn't get any help with that. You couldn't pay me enough to recommend this dump...

Good food. Not great service. our server was very distracted with another table after we arrived (it was the only other table) but her chatting with that table who were about to leave made us wait an extra 10 or more minutes. not great customer service

A very friendly and accommodating staff welcomed us to this lakeshore retreat. It is a place to enjoy nature ... the sound of waves to put you to sleep. It is a couple of hours north of Winnipeg, north of Riverton, Manitoba, beside the Gull Harbour Marina. Hecla Resort and golf course is a 30 minute stroll along the shore. A visit to the historical Icelandic village of Hecla is a ten minute drive.

The cottages and rooms at Gull Harbour were clean and fresh with great linens on comfortable beds. We had a microwave and tiny fridge as well. It was still way too chilly for lounging on the decks or beach but the walking trails at our doorstep were great.
We loved our meals at the very new restaurant/lounge. Fresh pickerel from the lake was perfect with a great fresh salad. Fish tacos and yam fries were good too.

We were a nine-person three-generation family who booked three rooms for two nights. We had a wonderful time. What stood out for us was the staff. Staff can make or break a holiday. They were unfailingly friendly and went out of their way to satisfy our requests, those at the front desk, those who looked after our rooms, and the dining room staff. Bravo!
Our rooms were well-kept and attractive. We loved the "cubbies" to store all our stuff in. Such a good idea! We all felt, though, that it would be a good idea to have a mirror in the bedroom. When there are two or more people in a room, it would be a great timesaver when all are trying to get ready; it was unusual not to have one. We also felt that the rooms could use more lighting, at least the ones on the "shady" side of the building, which don't have the really tall windows.
The toboggan slide was wonderful and all had fun in spite of the really cold weather. The rink was fun too, though we didn't get to hunker down around the firepits, which were lit after our skate. The children in our group were 6, 11, and 13. They had a lot of fun in the pool, the lazy river and on the slide. Apparently there is one spot in the slide where they always got stuck (maybe the water flow should be increased?) and so they were nervous that the next passenger would slam into them before they could push their way through. The 11 and 13-year-olds, who are good swimmers, missed an area where they could have a real swim, but it wasn't a problem. (Of course they weren't allowed in the adults' pool, since it is licensed for alcohol).
These are minor things though and are just observations; they didn't detract from the great holiday we had. The food in the dining room was really enjoyable. The adult pool area, with its many options, was so relaxing after a long day.
We are already planning to return next winter. A Manitoba gem not to be missed!
